Spent some time today looking at the assassin strike powers suggestions. It's doable, certainly, and not a particularly bad idea. It's got a few technical problems (When is an Elite Boss NOT an Elite Boss according to the powers system? Answer: More often than you think!)

So, today, I'm taking a bit of time to experiment with some odd ideas I have that may work...or may not. If not, I'll go back into head scratching mode for a while. If they do, well, then, Stalkers will be considerably better fighting things above Lt. level than they are currently whenever we get around to patching next.

That thread is too long but from what i can gather Stalkers might get a higher damage modifier from AS the higher ranked foe that they attack, making them a lot more useful against AVs etc and more desirable for pve teams. Correct?

Yeah, I think you really only need to read the linked post, and the 1st post in that linked thread. Basically some sort of AS that scales against enemy type all the way up to AV level.

Good buff - hope it's released soon and then hopefully more stalkers will have good places in teams - i feel like a bit of dead weight at times in teams with my MA/SR but this will be a much wanted boost..

So now scaling AS for pvp against AT's.. hmmm (<<that last bit was a joke before the nerf stalker comments come in )

Unless they boost AS to insane levels, ST damage will always be second rate in big teams (AV fights aside).

But thats probably fair. Stalkers solo easy, they should team hard.

Stalkers suffer in teams because they bring the least to the table - much like Scrappers in Heroes IMO.

Having AS do massive damage against AV's (and scaling down through EB's, Bosses etc...) would be a start. Another way to buff Stalkers would be to make Stalker Unresistables work properly. I don't like seeing my AS ping off an AV or EB (or hell Boss) that's popped something like Unstoppable with naff damage.

Yep totally agree - it's a nice start to give us some of an up when team picking is going on. Having your AS bounce off high res powers is a real pain and having a portion of it go through no matter what would be great.

But also agreed lets hope it's not insane damage boosts just something to make us feel a bit more use aye

Not a design philosophy that has any place in a MMO, IMO.

Anyway, brutes can solo at least as quickly as stalkers, and they are also good in teams.

Making AS unresistable would give me a very good reason to invite stalkers to the LGTF.

ooh thatll upset the scrappers, and its a bit of a gash post tbh

Scrappers give a high damage output consistently, for the most part they are self reliant, and they are FAR more effective in teams than stalkers.

Agreed, but nevertheless thats straight from the Dev's mouth. By design, they wanted some ATs to shine in teams.

And if they make scrappers/stalkers as useful in teams as everyone else (which is highly unlikely until they get AoE attacks), then they would have to (for balance reasons), make defenders as easy to solo as scrappers/stalkers.

I cant see it changing. And whilst it is a design flaw, it dosent bother my unduly.

Scrappers do get AoEs

Both my scrappers have 3 AoEs each.

Nope, im a lazy so and so. Dev post about 18 months ago IIRC - "We wanted some AT's to shine in teams", is my fairly clear recollection allthough I may be paraphasing.

I cant see much in the blatant power of defenders in big teams compared to scrappers (and the pain of soloing defenders compared to scrappers) that indicates they have modified their veiw on this.

No, but its an unavoidable effect. If some ATs are relatively good, it is unavoidable that others will be relatively bad.

It's just they put a positive spin on it.

A bit like a goverment saying "We will increase funding for Health" without saying "And, hence, we will withdraw funding from other areas and/or increase taxes to pay for this".

Less DPS than a well built blaster.
Can't manage/hold aggro as well as any well built Tank.

Stalkers and Scrappers are in the same boat - AT's that can be easily and efficiently solo'd but bring the least to team play.

Stalkers in CoV should be able to bring high (well, massive w/AS) Single Target damage to specific targets - as it stands now a Brute can easily deal as much damage, more consistently, with more survivability and to more targets.

The bonus potion of AS from Hide (and all other attacks) should be unresistable. It's that simple, that way they'd become a precise knife for a team instead of a spoon people invite because they need an extra person to start a TF.


(Edit: I'm not saying Scrappers don't bring anything to a team, I'm saying they bring the least potential use to a balanced team compared to the other AT's available).

And sometimes we even defeat mobs too.
