It's not just the Union handbook, it's the whole Virtueverse domain where the Union one sat as a sort of subsite, so I think it's all down to whoever across the pond was keeping that domain name alive.

I was just getting round to updating Inago's page! It's years out of date. Fingers crossed!

Following the link on that page, it seems the Virtueverse domain has been renewed, so we should hopefully be able to expect it back up withint 72 hours or similar, looking at the site.
All good, hopefully

Site should be back up now guys. Be advised, its always good to save a back up version of your handbook profiles somewhere, just in case.

Had just saved mine minutes before it happened. Edited it and added new bits so it's up to date now too! Just need a new pic or two.

Go to that page then enter the exact title of you page, it'll export the whole page in a XML wrapper, then if you ever have to restore it its easily done. Obviously have to do images separately. But I always backup my wiki stuff, though mostly because its easier to work on offline where I don't have to worry about losing a massive edit to a browser snafu.
For us EU monkeys, change the "www" prefix to "union", if you haven't sussed that out already, so you'd be wanting to type:

http://union.virtueverse.com/index.php/Special:Export

Also, out of a little boredom and a little desire to tart up my Handbook pages, I slapped these together:

http://union.virtueverse.com/index.p...Ts_and_Origins

Use them wisely, and by that I mean go nuts.

One brand-spankingish-new super-pretty CharacterBox, and you have Oreso to thank for making it colour-customisable.

The old one's still there, don't worry.

Hrm, I really have to ask, but what's up with PNG support? It's listed as an allowed file format, but in all the time I've been using the Handbook (just over 2 years now), every attempt to upload a PNG has been met with:

The file is corrupt or has an incorrect extension. Please check the file and upload again.

Unfortunately, it's turned out that the template doesn't quite draw properly in IE8, and I've still yet to find a solution to the problem that doesn't involve me suggesting those still using IE get a better browser. Crud.

What's wrong with it? I use IE8 (mostly) and it seems okay. What's the symptom?

Incidentally, I personally find that other browsers aren't better, they're just less standard.

The power-level bargraph built into the new Charbox doesnt display right on IE. Which is annoying but, meh...I can live with it.

Tell that to the Acid3 test.
IE can't get past 20/100 while FF manages 94/100...

Anyway:

In the blue corner (left), Internet Exploder. In the red corner, Firefox. Firefox is displaying the box, along with the attibute meters properly, where as IE insists on trying to bevel EVERYTHING, ignoring some of the font formatting and just doing what it likes with the attributes.

Yes. I love IEs highly advanced file download system. It's much better than those other browsers with their new-fangled dedicated windows for downloading. Why would I want to resume a stopped download? That's just crazy-talk. A crap pop-up window was good enough in the 20th century, it's good enough for the 21st damn it!!

I have switched to Opera on my phone. For some reason, the Mobile 6.5 version of IE really seems to hate sites formatted for mobile browsers.

I also use Chrome for viewing GMail, because something in one or the other makes IE hate Gmail. The download system on Chrome is actually mildly irritating.

Otherwise, I'm happy letting Microsoft invade my mind. I'm a good zombie.

Your lucky, CB. My widescreen makes it so that the 9 in Alphas blasts section ends up still displaying 9 chunks... but ending up in the 7 section. Which is why I picked up on the error in the first place.

Oddly enough, it actually worked fine when I first used the thing...but then it borked later on, for reasons unknown *shrug*

At the very least until someone's brave enough make or nick a template to do it, like the one Wikipedia has, because I'm not feeling it yet. :\

Just stick the gobbledegook below in the Age field within your character box and replace the stuff in the rounded brackets, those brackets included, with their respective details.

All numbers.

Months are in a 2-digit format, so for January, instead of entering 1, you'd enter 01 instead.

That doesn't apply to days - if it's less than 10, make it 1-digit.

Full 4-digit year, thank you.

{{#ifexpr: {{CURRENTMONTH}} = (birthmonth) | {{#ifexpr: {{CURRENTDAY}} < (birthday) | {{#expr: {{CURRENTYEAR}} - 1 - (birthyear)}} | {{#expr: {{CURRENTYEAR}} - (birthyear)}} }} | {{#ifexpr: {{CURRENTMONTH}} < (birthmonth) | {{#expr: {{CURRENTYEAR}} - 1 - (birthyear)}} | {{#expr: {{CURRENTYEAR}} - (birthyear)}} }} }}

And yes, I am aware that this is about as elegant as a wet fart, but it works for now.
This is now a Template. Now all you have to do is stick the following into the age field of your character boxes:

{{CharacterAge | birthday = XX | birthmonth = XX | birthyear = XXXX}}

Same numbering rules apply.

I'm starting to think the EXCharacterBox's attribute box in its current form just isn't going to work out. The more I fiddle with it in the hopes of IE drawing it properly, the more IE wants to do its own damn thing, and more it's becoming apparent that the attribute bars aren't quite lining up right in the more standards-compliant browsers either.

Basically, it's becoming more trouble than it's worth, so I'm left with a few necessary evils:

A) Cut it out entirely - not something a lot of you peeps that have adopted the new box would be too happy about

B) Drop the bars approach and go for numbers.

ON THE PLUS SIDE, I did manage to get rid of the bevelling in IE. Thank flip.

Nice work on those new additions you two. Birthdate add and the new CharacterBox. CD, I especially like the NH Nav Bar.

When I get the time, I'll have a play around with the new boxes.

Glad you like 'em.

As I've said before, the attribute bar wasn't drawing properly in IE, and misaligns slightly in other browsers, so I've been playing around with using GIFs instead.

The progress I've made so far can be seen in the Sandbox I've set up here.
