What is the best combo for soloing AND teaming?

Yes I soloed for the most part, including various elite bosses.

As it's already been said there's nothing wrong with /empathy as such but if you look at it from a control and damage perspective /empathy loses hands down to the other secondaries.

Problem with empathy is you will lack the extra control from your secondary and there's just too many good powers in both primary and the secondary to make you a viable controller or empath...very hard to be both

illusion/rad my fav by far currently leveling mine which has soloed most of the way to lvl 45 with ease, and currently soloing the elite bosses without taking a hit. Also whenever in teams, he is greatly apreciated *be sure to take emp + fallout *, illusion/kinetics is probs also awesome at solo/teams but i would never trade a kinetics for my rad anyday

If you want the build that can solo the quickest & also be in demand in teams go fire/kin, with fire/rad also being strong.

However, select a set that you will enjoy playing. I hardly ever play my fire/rad. If you want to play to lvl 50 select something you will like playing all that time.

Don't let any of the above posts put you off playing an Ill/empath, its a strong set which at higher lvls can defeat every elite boss solo and solo missions without AVs on inv. You can play both sets well and be in demand as both a controller and an empath. Its surprising how many teams I still see wanting an empath for healing, rather than looking for other powersets, eg trick arrow or force field.

Also how strong a hero is depends on the player both in knowing how to select powers, slots & enhancements as well as what to do in terms of actual game play. I have seen plenty of kins not using SB and plenty of empaths not using fort.

Just because I forget to SB alot doesn't make me bad! It's just that other things I do benefit the team more

I can Tell that Empath is nice to have as an Troller, but for Solo Play Rad seems the "faster" Way.
Anyway play What you like from Style more, because, you will not play an Toon for long if the Animations and The way Powers work didnt feel good for you.

Oh yes, it does make you bad. Prolly you are just too busy sb'ing your chimps all the time. ("No spirit you can't stack sb on your imps"... "But plz, let me try..." "I'll tell you for the last time, not even sb'ing your pets 5 times like you been doing all along won't help. Instead go help and sb the team pls" "Okay")
SB cries out to be passed aroud the team continiously, except for some poor ppl who can't handle the speed.


BTW to top it all i've seen a kin WITHOUT sb. Think he was lvl 41 or something.
And that was apart from the funny and team unfriendly build /kin corrupter experiment running around on union with tough+weave

/Emp is the worst secondary for soloing by a huge gap. All in all the best solo troller is Ill/Rad followed by Ill/kin. Fire gets just as good, but much later on.

I have a Lvl 35 Mind/Empathy controller and, though it may be hard in the beginning, you can pick most of the powers. So far I have all the powers in my primary (except telekinesis) and all in my secondary (except Absorb pain and Regeneration Aura). I plan on taking Adrenalin Boost at 38.

All those plus Hover+Fly, Hasten and Stealth+Grant invisibility. The trick for that many powers? No fitness pool. It is possible with IOs and some well-placed End reduction.

I do all the teammate buffing before the fights and act mainly as a controller during fights, but can also be a "healer" if the emergency arises. It is a very very active character to play, always something to do, some enemy to control, some damage to deal and some teammate to buff. Not a good toon if you are lazy.

To be honest, it can even be stressful.

I play a lvl 50 ill/empath troller for a long time now and I like it. For soloing illusion is great (with PA and Phantasm). When soloing the empath secondary is a great asset: you can buff your Phantasm with heals/fort/cm and let him do the "dirty" work. Elite boss no problem!

In teams the empath is highly appreciated. I prefer being the back-up healer with a good empath def doing the bulk of the healing. But, if the situation calls for it, I stick to heals/fort/cm/ra. Just finished Statesman TF, being the only reliable healer. Gameplay can be very exciting then: PA out, flash, blind, keeping peeps alive; never a dull moment!

ooo... can I throw Min/empath in.. I know its not popular as ... say... fire/kin

but it's easy to solo it (especialy as u can pretty much lock down a mob b4 they touch you, then reep the double damage from your controller powers)

but in a team they're awesome because they have pretty good mob controll (with confuse being able to take the heat off a team mate when they're in trouble)... and.. well... EMPATH!!!... healing and rez... what more do you want? lol

Although it is muchly underappreciated I think illusion/sonic makes a really good combo Solo you have 3 pets to aid you and your blind+spectral wounds can pop out some nice damage if you place your AoE -res Disruption Field on your PA Have to say though /sonic is much more useful in teams, although a lot of the powers go un-noticed they really do help in making swift killings!

Guess it is all up to personal taste but I'd have to say Mind, Grav or Illusion for primary and Kin, Rad, TA or Sonic for secondary

Can you place the AOE debuff aura on PAs? I thought they were unbuffable?
