Traps: The good, the bad & the pants
Where's your caltrops? One of the best powers in the set!
Traps is underrated but there are couple of powers that don't deliver as much they could. Triage Beacon (medicine powers are way better), Detonator if you need your minions to stay alive (Trip Mine is better imo) and Seeker Drones because mercs get flashbangs already but everything else is really good .
The Poison trap is great, as is the Acid Motar, and Trip Mines add a bit of icing to it all.
Caltrops and the Web Grenade are just brilliant.
Traps can be frustrating to use. In PvE, epsecially on a team, you might find yourself charging through stuff much quicker than any payoff from building your traps setups.
If you do PvP a bit, it's a fiddle to get the stuff set up, but Poison Trap spams a great hold, if a little short on duration, but it has really good debuffing, as does the Acid Mortar. Best bet is adding TP foe into the mix and pull what you're after into a whole mess of everything you can get set up .
I used a Robots/Traps MM in a base raid defense and it's just devastating .
Basically mate skip out all of your attacks (yes all of them!) don't get leadership since it's overrated and takes up end and power slots and try to get all of teh traps. Trust me mate they all own, and detonator is jsut so fun.
Triage is situational, but the whole set of Traps is situational and if I've got an Acid Mortar next to my Triage, surrounded in Caltrops with me webbing the occasional sucker; I can sit in a mob of 8+ Whites/Yellows reading my Newspaper and watching the xp flood in without having to move.
Bang on Leadership as well and it's just unfair
with my traps robotics mm now respecced. Ive dropped the first blast power as it is currently hitting for around 10 next to the other blast power which htis for 100+.
Ive got all the pets + all the buffs no single target heal doodad. (took medicine instead) dropped all the stamina powers. I dont have photon grendade (just didnt see the point) and have
All the traps except triage beacon (sucks) and seeker drones (pets get em anyways) ive got assault from leadership flight + stealth and grant invisibility.
and now have missions set to hardest setting and the only thing that causes me problems is generally when the room has more than 3 leutenants in it or they are council (because warwolfs keep running off into more agro)
other than that im enjoying my build its very powerful when grouped up with my kinetics corruptor friend
Question about detinator. If you blow up a Necro pet can you summon a ghost from it? A friend and I were wondering, but its a lot of leveling to do to answer a simple question. I guess what I'm saying is does the pets name vanish from the pets window or does it stay there black for a while?
"Well, they found my diary today.
They were appropriately appalled
at the discovery of the eight victims
They're now putting it all together.

Eight legs, one body, silk,
spider, brilliant!"
i found with detonator the name does stay there for a while so technically i asume you would be able to summon a ghost from the remains.
But not seen any traps zombie masterminds most go zombie/dark
man as a guy who has leveled two traps corrs, you NEED caltrops / poison trap - seeker drones and triage beacon and be pushed to the back dont really need them, although I keep trying to tell myself that seeker drones are good ~:/
Leadership and Triage Beacon may look pants, dosent mean they are. They produce no SFX and no red or green numbers. This makes them "invisible" and you can easily be fooled into thinking they are rubbish.
For instance, 8 Traps MM put down Triage Beacon and you suddenly play on God mode.
I was playing PvP vs 4 Masterminds a couple of days back who had stacked leadership buffs. It was ouch.
I have played a 6 man MM team, all with assault and tactics. They simply ripped through enemies without a pause. Accuracy was capped and Boost to base damage of +90%.
Just because powers are invisible doesntr mean they aren/t good. Its a pychological trick. When these effects stack they are sick.

[/ QUOTE ]Assault is damage buff, not base damage boost.
Boost ? Buff ? Interchangable surely?
It effects base damage iirc (i.e. adds to base damage of attack before other bonuses).
Not relevant to the essence of my point tho.

[/ QUOTE ]Incorrect.
Base damage boost=Changes base damage, and thus for example 10% base damage boost would give 10% boost to end damage.
Damage buff=Multiplier for base damage. Enhancements, and all damage buff powers are in this category. If you have no damage buffs, a 10% damage buff will be 10% boost to end damage, but if you have 100% damage buff, a 10% buff will only be 5% boost to end damage, and so on.
Assault is definitely a damage buff instead of base damage boost, last time I checked.
Disagree.
The term "Base", would by my understanding of the english language, imply before any further modifications (i.e. buffs) have been implied.
Of course, the particular language of the game may not be in accordance with the English language.
Not that I forsee any capitulation, mind. Different viewpoints.

Grammar you mean?

Just a short word on Seeker Drones:
Summoned in Battle they do little more than those of your pets. Redundant.
BUT (!!!) If you are on a team with really high enemies and need to pull them into prepared traps, they just rock.
Setup:
- Get Seeker Drones, slot them just with one range enh.
- Find a good corner.
- Set up all your traps at the corner. You can get out two acid mortars and some poison and trip mines with some caltrops.
- Summon the seekers in the group you intend to pull.
- Seeker are created as pets and either explode debuffing the enemies or get killed.
- Enemies come round the corner, NOT aggroed on you.
Much better than any form of pulling.
Especially for Bosses like Ballistas this in an invaluable asset to solo them: You get them to run into traps nicely, without aggro.
If your MM can stand the 8-10 seks your pets need to take an boss's / elite boss's aggro off you: no seekers
If you can't: consider them!

The Seeker Drones that the pets get may be the same as the ones in Traps, but pets can't use them well. Seeker Drones is a very good alphastrike absorber and pull power: place them around a corner, then watch as the mobs waste their heavy shots on them.
Like most traps, it works better solo than on a team tough.

Got me a Mercs/Traps, love him pieces great toon but I can't help feeling I'm not utilising Traps enough!
Currently have Webnade, FFG, Seeker Drones & Triage Beacon. I had Poison Trap before and wasn't impressed (it wasn't slotted though) and Detonator sounds like it will be pap.
I'm an active MM and get involved in the firefights, therefore like my machine gun, I have SJ as my travel, Acrobatics sits nicely on top of my FF generator.
So which powers are a must, which are a should and which are a plain old fashioned no?
Cheers!
