Bodyguard in pvp a BIT to strong

I bet its okay in pve since your pets are getting attacked as well. But if a MM uses all his pets as body guards in pvp, its almost impossible to solo him (I needed to get my blapper out since he had to much BF"s for my troller and even without my damage would have been to low)..and even then it was a pain..caltrops few respites and he was impossible to get again

Not asking for a nerf...but more for a solution for low damage chars

I had a feeling you would make a fuss about this icy just wait till RV when some MM's will have there uber sheild from there patron sets, also i saw .Dr Death go up against a SS/EA brute in the arena and he didnt die

Hah yeah... earlier today in Siren's I toyed around with (or got toyed around with, really) a Mastermind running probably all of his henchmen in Bodyguard mode, and my Claws Scrapper was pretty much useless.

I should probably have gotten a number of high criticals very quickly after eachother to have taken him down - or overdosed on Rages . Was great fun to see all the orange numbers, though !

So that's one more AT not to spend time trying to take down on my own... that leaves me with Corruptors (and to a much lesser degree, Dominators) .

only time I had a problem with a MM and bodyguard was in RV when he has a heavy and was in a point so had added def from the sheild. just killed all of hit pets and bashed him, nothing more annoying than for a MMs than their pets to be targeted I remember some pff MMs in sirens who I just went around killing their pets, one got peeved droped pff to try and help them, he didnt last long

I think the changes are what is needed to make them viable for pvp tbh

In the time it takes my Claws Scrapper to defeat anything (especially if the MM is a /Dark), the MM has plenty of time to resummon if I actually manage to defeat one henchmen .

Odd, my Claws Scrapper has no trouble in ripping through henchmen (nor does he have trouble ripping through MMs, Dominators or Brutes for that matter) - do you have Follow Up in your build?

ok, to kill a MM (which is quiet simple) u kill the henchies 1 by 1, he resummons them and u kill them again.. now he waits for recharge, while u kill him... another way is Cone/AoE attacks.. it will kill the pets so fast the MM wont even know what hit him (since AoEs will dmg 1st pets, then pets take additional dmg from MMs dmg... AR blasters has 2 nice DoT powers for this, so does fiery armor and SS. if MM is merc or ninja, his pets will be easier irradicated by SS-handclap that will send them flying and disoriented, leaving the MM alone (i guess u need to slot for KB, to make them fly far enough)

few interesting notes:
Icy need his blapper to kill a MM with BG?? sounds like some1 is overpowered since that seems to be the only AT powerfull enough?

i wouldnt cry too much, since not even a passive granite-armor using tank, letting me kill him, would be even slightest afraid of my robots.. since he resist/regens too fast for my dmg (have assault) and dont even bring up using claw-stalker against invul or granite.. since they are even a less threat.. some sets just cant manage to kill other sets

Personally its a very amusing change..however with Chiefette (Mind/Storm Controller)
I'm just trying to perfect a technique of using telekinesis to put most, if not all, of the mastermind's henchies out of play 'i.e several hundered yards away'...I'm getting very good at TK pushes Thus making it easier for the mastermind to be cracked..

like dr said, the old tactic of "just target MM and he has no defense" is not very useful anymore. I think this was intended with the adding of BG. Some of you might say "controllers/blasters/defenders/corrupters/dominators also got no extra defense like MMs" well point is, those can all easily fight for themselves, while MM has to rely on his pets. As said, some sets cant damage other sets, its rock-paper-scissors all over again. MMs aint really that tough to kill, even with BG running.

I cant one shot them with a fully Defianced Blazing Blot anymore that WTH??? reaction was always funny . Ah well back to the old Tp on to mines tactic, though that isnt half as much fun.

Personally with a bubble controller I just put detention on the mm walked towards him with forcebubble up sent the pets flying far far away (either with the repel of force bubble or wormhole) and positioned myself on the other side of the mm (between the pets and mm) and once detention was off let the holding frenzy begin.
This is just one example of a non standard idea working well, as with most changes it takes a while for people to figure out how to counteract them. so im not saying bodyguard is overpowered or isn’t, im just saying its a little quick to be calling it so.

Altho there is no way to DISagree with that you guys say atm, not every toon is made to take out full groups

Well tbh..almost non are in pvp except scrappers/brutes? (tanks damage output would be to low)

And DR. The reason to get my blapper is cause it is a good toon for quick high damage with some cooldown after. But if the MM can heal the cooldown is to long sometimes

I was fighting a MM in Bloody Bay the other day. Cheated and used Repel to send his pets into a group of Longbow. The MM flew out of range though lol. So I just left him.

Yeah, the pets need to be in supremacy range, so 60 ft iirc.
Most ATs got a way to deal with em:


Tankers/Scrappers - whack the pets, try to mez + kb the MM

Blaster - AoEs are your friend, expect especially fire blasters to become a major pain thanks to high AoE and DoT (and of course iirc most pets got a weakness to fire dmg)

Controller - Mez/debuff the pets, then try to mez/kb/debuff the MM, on my ill/ff I also use the forcebubble trick, on my earth/storm I just use freezin rain/earthquake to keep the pets down, then gale the MM away.

Only the Defender will have a bigger challenge to take down MMs I think (dependin on powersets), but then again Defenders arent meant to be on the frontline

Heh, the whole "defeat the henchment, then go for the Mastermind himself" tactic works fine in theory, but it's a whole different matter in praxis, with the Mastermind having other means of migating damage than just the Bodyguard function.

I do have Follow Up (of course!) on my Claws Scrapper to buff my damage output, but it was of very little use in my case... Necro/Dark MM with Bodyguard enabled: I successfully attack the Mastermind or any of his pets and my accuracy is instantly shot to hell due to all the accuracy debuffs in their attacks... and if some significant damage is actually dealt to the Mastermind (by miracle) or the henchmen, the Mastermind can casually fire off Twilight Grasp and negate any of the work done towards downing him.

Eventually I just jumped back to the hero base and logged off as there was very little else to do villain-wise (the other villains in the zone were Stalkers, and I can't very well fight what I can't see).

I'm probably just going to target Corruptors more now (not that I can easily take them out, since they all seem to have either Super Speed or Fly), as Dominators very easily hold me through Integration, I can't see Stalkers and Brutes I might take down following an extended fight with a lot of lucky Criticals (but with Stalkers around, what are the odds of being able to fight it out).

from that list you mention it kinda sounds you are pretty fked against most opponents then private

but as said multiple times before, its all an RPS-game in PvP. Claws scrapper might not work against a /dark MM, but a blaster with properly slotted aim/bu zaps right through that acc debuff.

Here's my version of a reply:

MMs get bodyguard mode, to help cope with aggro management. and HELL what about the FF MMs? O.o

Forcefield MMs now have Scaled Defense and regardless what the notes say, I've SRd Recluse AND Scorpian at SAME time, in PvP and you can't tell me Scaled Defense doesn't work in PvP, cause I should be able to DO THAT vs level 2x 54 AVs, regardless!

Add the patron pools armor on top and you've got a "challenge", but not impossible task. Takes a lil time and brain power (which most don't seem to use half the time and jsut [censored] about things on how they was Nerfed or shud be Nerfed).

So yea, as Stagefright said, you are kinda screwed really, as are most. You got what AT you wanted, you got the Defense buffs you wanted.. half the server if not all, knew what it wud be like with ?/FF Masterminds as well in PvP, and the new DEF buffs made it more so a point.

And if you think just MMs are a problem thinkabout the SR and Ice armors now and add now, add DM Stalkers and Elec brutes to the mix

Half the server wudn't have touched SR or Ice Armor with a barge pole before i7, and now every n00b, gamer and longtime player wants one.. O.o go figure, when half of them slagged em down as being "weak" and "gimped"; and with the RES elec/? has, I've seen on take on a pill box and heroes and just laugh at the damage. XD

Heh, give it a month, and you'll have sumone figure out a way around the DEF buffs, and body guard system and hand the MM they're [censored] back, so they too cry "NERF". XD

dont wanna slag your rant razman, but all defbased powersets only been buffed in pve, not pvp they already were pretty powerful in pvp (as anyone who fought my ice tank can confirm )
