Okay going to test out an brute, so i need a little advice on what type of powersets i should choose aswell as which powers i should get as i level up.

So lets set it like this, if you are playing a brute, which powerset are you playing it, and what do you think is the pros and cons about your powserset?
Also if you have time set up the powers you choosed at that which level.

Thanks in advance =)

Choose whatever you think is best. At the end of the game it's you playing and everyone has different opinions.

fire/fire is excellent by the way.

Well here are my opinions on what power sets I like best.

Energy melee: Lovely damage, good diorientation tactics
Fiery Melee: Cool damage plus some DoT
Dark Melee: Not my fav, but reduces accuracy alot and some variety to it
Stone Melee: STRONG but slow and may need hasten
Super Strength: Basic attacks, strong and cool knockback

Invulnerability: Nice and simple, and some good auto shields
Dark Aura: Some nifty shields and other pwoers, my fav
Fiery Aura: Some cool DoT, shields, self heal, and a self rez
Energy Aura: Not a good one really, very squishy
Stone Armor: Kickass resistance, plus an awesome lvl 38 power

If you are new to brutes I would recommend super strength and invulnerability. Simple and fun to play. Afterwards if you feel bored with it try something like stone or energy melee.

My favourite primary power set : Energy Melee
My favourite secondary power set : Invulnerability/Dark Armor

My least favourite primary power set : Dark Melee
My least favourite secondary power set : Energy Aura

Thanks for the replys so far.

I´ve started an SS/Invul brute, haven´t had time to play, much on him yet, but i like the combination so far.

Oh no Foamy, I have a DM/EA brute! As you said, EA doesn't really give any resistance as such, or the resistance is very low as it's mostly a Def based set, so it can make me very squishy.

I've got an EM'EA brute, was a bit of a slog to get to lvl 20 going solo with little noticable effect from my auras.

EM has a good turn around on attacks, though which helps out a lot,but does suck up the endurance I found that unlike my Stone/Fire I had to really think about the usage of my toggles.

All that changed at lvl 20 when I got energy cloak, it fits in my char concept really well (think heavy stalker/stalker support), does not use much in the way of end, looks cool, and allows more control with enemy selection and tactics.

My most used toggle= Entropy shield.
Overall I think EM/EA brutes are "heavy scrappers" as opposed to "damaging tanks", and should be played like that at low lvls.

---

My stone/Fire brute was a big hitter, slow but capable of handing out huge damage, the only problem really was the slow attack speed..but when he hit..ouch.

---
There seems to be a lot of DM/DA brutes around,so they must work quite well.

Not played one, teamed with loads though, footstomp, your team will love you for it, really, footstomp

Cool, but i'am far from getting footstomp yet :P

Anyway, i could need some help choosing which powers i should get and what kind of slotting i need.

My normal brute slotting is 1acc, 1end red, 1rech, 3dam in each attack, in that order. I dont know much about Invul, but DP is 3 heal, 3rech

With Inv treat it like you do a tanker so:

TI and Unyeilding 3 Dam Res, 1 End
Dull Pain 3 Recharge, 3 Heal
Invinc I'd go for 3 Def, 3 Tohit
Unstoppable 3 Dam Res, 3 Recharge
Passives only slot once everything else is slotted if you even take them. About the only good passive is Tough Hide, the rst can be left out in favour of something else.

For SS Rage needs 3 rechrges in.
THe rest of the attacks can be slotted as Cynic says or go for something like:

1 Acc, 2 Rechrge, 1 End 2 Dam

If you plan to pvp swap the End for an Acc.

A little thing i wonder about, i've heard a lot of talking about Jab and punch, which to take and not.

So my question is, should i get both or just one of them? i've heard that most drops punch since you can take Air Sup instead, is that right?

Jab builds fury nicely, I'd recomend anything that can do that

So jab over punch in your Opinion?

Posted

With Jab you have an attack chain from level 1 which means you can build fury quicker. In PvE take Jab for Pvp Punch might be slightly better but there is not much difference.

okay, going for jab then and dropping punch for now, i have the oppertunity to respec later so, not a big deal.

Anyway thanks for all the help, and feel free to keep on helping :P

THe easiest way to get help would be to post a build up and then everyone can suggest different ideas. We can also check your slotting and so on as well as highlight any usless powers you've picked or useful powers your missing.

I'd take both jab and punch, as well as the other ST attacks from SS, with all of them you're huge ST damager, nearly as good as EM.

What do you mean by that? EM do more damage or?

And please check out my new topic, i've made up an quick build that i need suggestions on.

EM does disgustingly high damage. SS does good damage

EM is the highest single target damage set.

Hmm by hearing that i really got an thought about wanting to test EM/Invul maybe :P

EM's AoE is fairly poor though, SS's is quite nice
