The Nature of Roleplay
I find GG RP difficult because my moods to play the game are sporadic. I may feel like playing for three days or a week straight, then not play again for a month. That's not conducive to a healthy GG experience, as people will have largely forgotten you by the time you return from your hiatus. So you'll mostly be working extra effort to get from the outside in, every time you come to GG.
In missions it's easy to just slip out IC comments here and there. I'm not strict about always being IC, and if the situation demands it, I can always drop OOC at need, but when possible, I really enjoy making IC comments in the midst of missions. I always get very thrilled when somebody joins the ICing during a mission. It heightens my enjoyment of the team a great deal.
I would love it if Find Member had a checkbox for RPer, so you could search only for RPers, and put together an RPer team. That would so rock. Right now my biggest difficulty is not knowing how to find fellow RPers when I'm putting together pickup teams.
Hey Doc,
Union is actually the official unofficial RP server. You're FAR more likely to find people to RP with on Union than you will on Defiant, though it DOES exist to a small extent.
RP takes many forms on Union... There's the casual PUG RP stuff, which will often get you funny looks... SG RPing which can be fun with the right crowd... And there's the Galaxy Girl meets at 9pm every day. These though, are far more for the social side of heros, their 'off time' if you will. Although there is frequently plenty of action going down there too!
The Tempest guys do visit the statue too, so that's probably a good place to meet them IC and get to know them for some missioning!

I'm Coile, globally @Coile. Holler if you feel like it. Coile is the other co-leader of Tempest, and probably registered as such somewhere, so you can make the contact IC.

..coila ... brother..when do you finaly stop writing my name like yours.
(( and yea..we are at GG from time to time, never hurt to walk up to us and have a chat ))
Thanks all
It looks as though I'm going to be fighting crime in Union now. The down side is that I'll be starting my characters from scratch again; I've been trying to get out of the habit of creating, creating, creating. The plus side; however, is that hopefully I'll get more attatched to my character if he interacts in role.
Now I just have to decide if I want to recreate Doc Universe(controller) and Battleflag(Tank). If I do I can make them better with help from the advisers in the forum. All in all, not a bad deal.
Thanks
Doc
Well If your on Union And on as a Villian Give Us A Shout At @Tao'grim im Sure i Might be Able to Help.... Or at least try.

I was wondering whether it might be possible to set up a coalition of RP supergroups in order to broaden the basis for creating IC/RP teams and PUGs.
I for instance try to play all missions at least 98 % IC, but have most of my characters in very small SGs created by myself for RP-purposes. I would love for these characters to be able to join some kind of RP-coalition. I have no idea how/if this would work from a technical viewpoint though.
Just in case anyone is wondering, by the last 2 % I just meant that I e.g. would have no trouble (without OOC-brackets) going "AFK 30 secs" during a mission or doing Frostfire twice with the same character and things like that, whereas things like complaining about XP would be out of the question
Must say the Silent Tempest model of a RP SG works very well. I currently run the Fletched Alliance that works on the same priciples, it's been going a little longer and has a few more members (I assume) but manages to keep that "tight-knit" feel.
Hmmm, I should introduce myself to these coil's, IC coalition perhaps?
Anyway doc, I'd say just turn up, see how it goes. One word of advice though, don't try hitting on the catgirls.... you'll see.
Rickman
Thanks but I'm sticking to coh for now, if I was playing a villain aswell time would be a real problem.
This sounds like a sound approach to me Lotus:

A coalition against villains, criminals and other bad guys would make much IC sense. Let's just make it happen IC.
As Coile's sister Coila (for OOC knowledge background check "A for Android" story in Creative) so subtly indicated she's the other half of the shared Tempest leadership. We drop by GG, not every night but often enough, and can be IC reached as Paragon City's city hall has our registry information and both siblings listed as leaders. If we're not there, phone us.

Thanks Coile (And Coila),
I will try looking you up in game and see if we can get this IC coalition going
Hopefully, it could work as an open invitation concept for any SGs looking to do missions IC
Also, it would be great if the concept could work for both COH and COV
This all sounds very promising to me, good luck. Hopefully I'll be part of it soon.
Doc
Credit should go to you for starting the thread
Thanks
I started the thread because i spent a lot of time playing Champions, D&D and other games from the age of about 14 to 19, then beer etc took over. Ever since then I've wanted to recapture the experience but life being what it is the opportunities and contacts aren't there. The solution seemed to be in the direction of the pc so I played Baldur's Gate, Freedom Force and other similar titles. Obviously, there's nobody there to interact with so fun was limited.
When I first played coh I loved it for the world and charcater generation but this was limited. i quickly realised I was still playing a single player game really so I got involved in teams. I've had a lot of fun doing this but I'm still not in my rpg world and that's something I miss. I can even remember now, in my late 30's, a Champions character called Primus(I know all the jokes, forgive me I was young)who died shielding a civilian with his body when a bomb went off. I wasn't even sad when he died; it's what he was there to do. Now to some that might sound stupid but to me it's what roleplaying is all about. i want some of that from Coh and happily, there seems to be a fair few people willing to help me achieve it.
Doc
Hehehe.... You'll find even more if you want to get your characters killed off!

Welcome to Union, I hope you find the kind of RP you are looking for!
If you want to run some missions with the Tempest, don't worry about level. Most of us are very slow and it will not be hard at all to catch up, and even so, we don't mind doing SK / Exempler to get good RP group going together rather than focus on maximum exp (on side note, if you are used to fast exp - we are definetely not the right people :P Missions might go fast, but the yappings before, after and middle slow us down considerably ) Right now my Tempest character is 16, the others are between 11 and 25.
Pyranha / Subaiku (( And *WAVE* to Samy ))

Thanks for the welcome. I'm eager to get my character to around levs 8 to 10 fairly quickly just from the point of view that I've played these levs a lot. My highest character has been 14. Once I've got a few decent powers and can get around at a reasonable pace I don't think I'll be in any great rush to climb the levels. From an rp point it just means my power armour tanker is still in the early stages of developing his invention.
I look forward to joining in the fun.
Doc
One other thing, from an rp perspective would you say it's best to stick to playing just one character or is two or three still do-able?
Doc
That really depends on how organised you are, and how much time you want to dedicate to roleplaying/gameplaying .
The majority of the roleplayers have a selection of alts (alternative characters)...Z being the most noteable, with her army of alts; though there are one or two with only the one character. It's entirely up to you.
I'd just like to add my own personal slant on doing missions IC if I may. Now I know that quite a lot of people don't like to fully RP missions all the time due to the amount of time this can take up and subsequently the reduced rate of Exp gained, (I'm one of those people I'm sorry to say, I generally just want to get in and out of "generic office block #12 asap as they tend to get kinda dull)
However, this doesn't mean i don't enjoy a little IC behaviour while I break heads. This is usually taken care of by teaming with fellow Fletched Alliance members and having an IC conversation while we work, I mean, we can't be together 24/7 so there's bound to be something to talk about, and for me this helps to keep me up to speed after returning to the game from my weekly vanishing act caused by working nights for 4 days a week.
Granted it's not as in-depth as some RPers would like, but it allows myself and whoever else is on the team to build on our character's relationships, and quite often we're able to arrange all kinds of devious entertainment for later use, (for example, our last IC mission period led to the creation of yet another alt who has since been taken along to GG and is an absolute joy to RP with, and she was created because of a few Devouring Earth missions and one comment about wishing the people we had to save would learn to look after them selves)

You know Samy, that is an excellent idea. I dunno if it has been done before, but why not suggest this to the devs? I'm sure loads of RP'ers would support the request, I for one wud be right behind you.
Maybe they could even include this feature in the i7 release.

rp players seem to be in the minority

Very true Doc. I mean, the way I look at it, there are four ways to city of x. 1) In character missions 2) Hardcore level crunching. 3) Player vs. Player 4) Badge hunting.
I actually like all four. But no everyone does.
Count me in please, if we are making an RPSG coalition. "The Gang" VG and "Dark Covenant" SG should be okay with it.

After all, this is a roleplaying game.

Actually, sorry to dissapoint, but it's NOT a roleplaying game. Check your box, it's an MMOG (Massively Multiplayer Online Game)... Not an MMORPG...

I'd just like to add my opinion to the alting question, so here goes...
My main RP toon has a select circle of friends, those are the people he knows and trusts, and after some other RP events he finds it hard to place his trust in new faces without being sure of them, so if his regular crowd isn't around, he'd just be sat down on his own quietly (and thats not much fun now is it).
To avoid this, i have a selection of alts that can be dragged out into the sun to converse with the people that are around, giving me my regular RP fix and helping to pass the time until my mains buddies turn up. Everyones a winner

I don't wish to step on any toes or meddle in affairs someone else is already running. So, are there already Coalition plans underway, or shall I do it? By doing I mean coordinating, I'm not looking for any IC or OOC power in the system. I just have this energy I must direct somewhere creative.
If there's no one jumping the gun already, I'll proceed with an IC announcement tomorrow night. Any and all feedback is appreciated.
Pious
I've just noticed your posting; it sounds like you have the right idea too. It loooks like a brilliant team option is emerging.
