Server Wide Pentad Tournament - Sunday 23rd
looking forward to it.. and if any stalker or dominator out there wanna join, Violators are very short of theese ATs and will gladly pick u up in one of our teams... and as kinslayer says.. since its Pentad, it will be the purest form of PvP, where no team has better config than the other.. (cept for lvls and experience tho lol) so it should be very interesting to see which villains will be strong enough to die against heroes
We will get a team together one way or another..so count us in.
Can you add a rule that players can only join one team (and cannot play on both Hero and Villain sides)..or we may encounter problems in later rounds when a player has to play himself.
This sounds like fun, I'd like to join in with my Mind/Energy Dominator, Norton, currently at lvl37. He's in the Syndicate, so if there is a Syndicate team they may (or may not!) want me. If not I'm open to offers. I imagine Doms will be in relatively short supply if PVE is anything to go by.
Argghhh kin you stole my idea , na but seriously glad you did it saves me posting but on the day im ganna be sitting out of the tourney and arranging the matchs ect.
on the day come and see me in the arena give your names and teams to me as Empeor Dragon.
Plus if enought teams turn up im hoping to do two group stages with a semi final knockout then final.
With the final villan team facing off against the final hero team.

That's good news Ronin as it mean as I can go over to the hero side and organise it from there.
I've posted on the 1 AT SG site to let them all know but the interest from the CoH side seems to be scarce at the moment. I may do some advertising over arena for the next few days so all the non-forum users know about it.

Just wanna make sure i got it clear before i run my mouth. I understand that we're only allowed to enter once, but wanted to make sure that multiple teams from the same VG are allowed. Think i already know the answer, but no harm in finding out.
Yeah thats fine (that is my understanding of it).

I'll be there and bring some friends too
Yea you can only enter one toon in one team so once knocked out your out and carnt join another team.(this includes running over to heros and joining a team their) I will be jotting down all the teams b4 tourny starts and keeping notes.
Plus if you bring a team after tourny starts you wont get in.

Yup, we definitely do not want to make it an Sg event as that will exclude a lot of PvP players who happen to be in mainly PvE groups, not to mention that any of the 1 AT SG team won't be able to enter
That said, there will clearly be single SG teams there so we're not going to penalise them for being in the same VG if they can put more than one team together.
Besides, if we did that, the smart ones would just leave their Vg for the duration of the tournament then re-join with most of us none the wiser!
Quick post about this. On the hero side, I've had a few poeple saying they can't find certain AT's needed to fill their team.
While people can turn up on the night and form a team, it will be a lot less chaotic if they do it in advance. With that in mind, post here if you are looking for a team or looking for certain AT's to fill a team.
hmmm... will spectators be allowed? I have one character being EVIL and another associated, but technically not EVIL (but still evil ). None of them is far enough to join our team, though. Of course I could use the additional tactical information to the advantage of the team, or even coordinate the team as some kind of untouchable general. But my interest watching the rest being smashed and making a few screenies of it.
Guess it'd be a better for the event as is if it was public, no matter whether there is abuse potential.
It will be public but the abuse potential should be minimal. No one will know who they're fighting in advance and you can't talk to people in the arena so can't feed them info.
You 'Could' potentially identify threats on a specific team in advance but it would serve almost no purpose whatsoever for two reasons.
- I'd expect the players to look at the builds of those they are up against before entering and identify the threats anyway.
- If they don't do this, they will know who the threat is after the first skirmish.
So, anyone who's actually sad enough to use a spy may save their team just one death in the early matches. By the time we get near the end, I epxect general area chat will have already identified the ones to watch out for.

Don't forget to pose after your ineviteable victories! That'll be some cool shots.
IMPORTANT UPDATE
Due to the earlier mistake of mentioning lvl 35-40, we have finalised this tournament at Middleweight, lvl 32-37.
IGNORE THAT POST
It will be capped at lvl 40. Appears we were given the wrong information as we were told that the lvl range for arena, i.e 35-37, meant you HAD to be at least 35.
Zak has pointed out this is wrong as you just get auto LK'd to minimum lvl if you are not high enough.
The matches WILL be fought at Cruiserweight which is lvl 38-40 and will be rated. ANY lvl can take part though, you just get SK/exemped to the level range.
Once again, apologies for all the messing around but someone gave the wrong info out on the Union Leaders channel
Sounds interesting. I might drop in with my level 39 dominator.
I am rather cross at having to wait 75 minutes only to be put up against a hero team in the first round, a team comprised of lvl 50s with dedicated pvp builds. That was NOT what I signed up for and the predictably one sided match that resulted was no fun whatsoever for anyone on the villain side.
While I applaud the fact that you bothered to even attempt to organise this tournament, it seriously didn't work out as a fun thing for villains to do. I was expecting a bit of a laugh, to have a fair fight with fellow villains, but to get ganked for target practice by a well honed hero team in the first round was just lame.
While I appreciate Kinslayer&Co attempting to bring some community activities onto Union, I'm afraid I need to support Norton.
The whole thing was poorly organised. First of all, waiting for over an hour really isn't acceptable. Perhaps registering teams should have been done in advance of the tourney as much as possible, so you could've made the leagues a bit earlier?
Also, I thought it was a knockout tourney? Lose once and you're out? I didn't re-read this thread so maybe it was mentioned here, but it could've been repeated at the tourney itself. My team was gone by the time I heard I had another match after being humiliated the first time. Not that it mattered, because of the earlier problem (waiting an hour), one of my teammembers actually HAD to leave.
And finally, inevitably, I must comment on the hero's participating from the start. At the risk of being called a cowardly violator that doesn't fight heroes, this was just ridiculous. I have seen blasters go toe-to-toe with stalkers in melee and WIN unharmed. I am not denying the hero teams were incredibly skilled, it was truly impressive how they worked together. However a stalker losing (and losing big time) to a blaster IN MELEE? That's just unbalanced! I've seen it happen once, and heard another person seeing the same thing with a different stalker in a different match.
I have seen other unlikely incidents as well. (a blaster being fired at by 3 villains and actually keep going)
Nonetheless, let's say the heroes really are balanced and simply are far more skilled: even then, make the leagues suited to this. Start with villain leagues and hero leagues, because us villains lack the skill to start off against heroes, apparently. Then the best of the villains can fight the best of the heroes. IMO, this would've been more fair and most importantly, more fun.
Still, this was a good initiative, and hope to see a follow-up in the future. Mistakes are made so you can learn from them

Why? Blasters hit friggin' hard and don't need hide to do it. If a stalker doesn't have the benefit of hide, there isn't really much he can do against a skilled blaster. I'm surprised you haven't seen this happen before. Stalkers get destroyed by Blasters all the time.
I saw the first 2 fights in this tourney which both featured villains/hero fights. To me it seems that right now Heroes are lightyears ahead of Villains in regards to PVP experience, Powerset Knowledge and Teamwork. Let's hope the Villains will catch up to them or else PVP will get really boring real quick.
ps. to all Bubble MM's... know your limits. Force Bubble is handy, but an Invul Tank will run right through and one shot you. Don't just stand there and take it. Move around.... and drop Detention Field on him. I understand they hate that.

there was no 1st round, there were two tables due to uneven numbers caused by teams dropping out, u had the chance to fight at least 2 other villain teams as well as hero teams, if u lost then pick yourself up, learn from it and come back for more fights nobody wud b good at PvP if they lost and never came back, every team has lost at some point
i think the organisers deserve a lot of credit for adapting when teams didnt turn up and for organising it in the first place, i no i wouldnt want to organise something of this magnitude and not take part, well done guys
I saw one hero vs. villain match; Retribution vs. Violators.
This is what I saw.
Heroes; 2 support builds, 3 dmg dealers.
Villains; No support builds and poor synergy.
A bubbler is great, but without a therm rad backing him, not so great.
Rad/rad. Rad has low dmg compared to ice or fire, but thats not the problem. Rad is another attacking build, when you need support. Villains only have one good buffer AT, and thats a corr.
A fire brute without acrobatics? What would he do against knockback?
A plant dominator? Great in PvE, pretty gimped in PvP compared to Ice or mind.
Do you expect a balanced fight with a team without synergy, without buffers, without somekind of mezprotection (allowing rages instead of break frees)
Did you think you were gonna fight immobile targets who would allow them to get debuffed, hit by assassin strike and so on?
Thats not even counting your biggest problem. My grandmother moves faster than you guys. You stood still and almost waited for the tanker/blaster to total focus you.
Heroes are better in a pentad, but not as much as you say.
One of the best (if not the best) AT for PvP is found on the villain side. Its called a corruptor, and untill you learn how they support the rest of the team, you are gonna loose.
A Paragon Defender
That's right guys,
On sunday the 23rd April, a few of the SG leaders are going to be running a PvP arena tournament. Kick off will be 18.00 and the rest of the rules are as follows
- 2 Tournaments. One for Heroes one for Villains
- Battles take place in arena
- Pentad format meaning 5 man teams with one of each AT
- Battles fought at lvl 35-40 (I think that's the one, whichever weight is just below the epic power level)
- Knockout format
- Winners of Hero/Villain side to meet in a grand final
- You can only be in ONE team
This is open to all and you do not need to register in advance, just turn up on the night. If you have a full team, great, if not there will hopefully be plenty of people wanting a team who you can join.
As soon as you arrive, you will need to give a team name and nominated team leader. You will then be paired up with another team for your first fight. After the fight, the leaders will tell me the result and you will go through to the next round.
Looks like we have plenty of people to help arrange the villain side but if there are any heroes who don't mind being 'marshalls' for the CoH side, please let me know.
We already have E.V.I.L, Horde, Violator, New Blood Rebellion and Bloodline all confirming at least one team. Hopefully it will be a fun event and for those who haven't really had much luck with PvP, 'Pentad' battles are the purest form IMHO and about as fun as it gets.
