Calling all CoV Union PvP'ers - A Request
I'd be interested, though I'm still figuring out what build would be great for pvp
I think there once was a pvp SG on union for CoV.. but I havent heard from it for.. eh.. well a few months at least
"god, how many devs did hami have to sleep with to get ED?"
Total Cat @Stagefright
So you want a group of PVPers who will not be PVEing a lot but have a suitable base that you can use for running PVP raid events but not actually earn an significant prestige to pay for it.
I look forward to raiding this group when they steal an item of power just so we can ransack the place and put them out of action for months at a time
(We still on for 8th April?)

A few dubious comments there Darklimb and I can't wait to prove them wrong once we're up and running
Anyway, had a couple of PM's about this and it seems people are interested. Also had a stroke of good fortune in that one of the CoH SG's who created a VG on CoV have offered to hand their dead VG over to me for this PvP group. A very basic base to start with but at least we have some prestige.
Anyway, fleshing the idea out a bit more, here is how I see it working. This VG will be made up of PvP alts, collected from all the CoV VG's and I will be discussing it over the 'Union Leaders' channel to get it well publicised and supported.
The reasoning behind this is that most VG's are interested in PvE only and cannot scrape enough PvP'ers together for raids to make them really effective. By having a common PvP VG for the server, we got the following advantages:
- Everyone who wants to PvP doesn't feel that they need to find a dedicated PvP VG and leave their PvE one. They just roll an alt and put it in this VG.
- We all get to start roughly from the beginning and level together, work on tactics and builds etc. We will also lvl these in VG mode with SO's being largely bankrolled by some of the lvl 40's from the PvE groups involved(even if only my VG's 40's are willing to do this, we will try to get the base up and running ASAP)
- We get the advantage of a lot of VG's to help PL our PvP alts until we get enough high levels ourselves.
- A lot of these PvP alts will be from existing lvl 40 PvE players, meaning that if we can pool a bit of inf from these and convert it, we get a bit more of a headstart
- It will make raids open to everyone of the VG's helping with this project. If you have a PvE build but want to try raids out with the support of some dedicate PvP builds and a base designed specifically for it, you move your character to the VG for the raid then just move it back after.
One thing I REALLY want to hammer home, this is not my project or a Bloodline VG project. I really want to set this up as a group effort for the server to help us get the most out of PvP and raids. I'll say now that my main is useless in PvP and I have very little experience so the more help I can get, the better. The ventual aim will be to set up a second one of these, then a third and so on, until our server has several dedicated PvP VG's giving the PvP players a common community. I also hope to eventually join these 'inter server' PvP events on the test server and show that Union can achieve anything we want due to our teamwork, community and innovation (God, just read that back and I sound like a bad preacher in the USA!)
(As for 8th April, still fine for us. Did panic a little, thinking it conflited with the Hammi raid but that's the 3rd)
Sounds good, I take it there will be a majority of Stalkers? I started a stalker and got it to level 8 before getting a little bored but I'd be happy to put him in this group if you aren't in a big rush to get them all levelled?
Didn't have the best experience with the stalker AT so it will probably be the last character I put any real time into. Although with some tips and the right team I might enjoy it a little more. Or if you can suggest a suitable alternate AT I might be very interested.
I was teamed with a mastermind the other day who said that he was going to be /or had forming(ed) a stalker only SG and was pretty excited about the PVP potential of such a group I think it was called the hidden or something along those lines might be worth trying to hunt them down.
Hopefully the group would flourish as it would be great to have Union top of the PVPers.
This not for me, since a) I don't like PvP very much b) I almost never play CoV.
No matter that I whole heartedly support the idea, I have heard people complain about raids and never been able to get enough people to do them.
If this can get of the ground it will help both those playing CoV interested in PvP it would also give those CoH SGs interested in PvP someone to raid.
I will help if I can Kinslayer all you have to do is ask.
Black Light, Electricity/Devices Blaster at Union
White Knight, Illusion/Radiation Controller at Union
Obscurum est absentis lux lucis. Ego sum lux lucis!
I think Darklimb has a good point, you will need to be very active PVE wise to get enough prestige to compete, it would be better to have an active PVE VG building the base then a list of PVP people from other VG's that can transfer their characters on the night of the raid and return to their VG's after it, mercenaries if you like (not the AT) :-)

Probably not, surprisingly. What I've found is that while stalkers were having the word NERF shouted at them in PvP from day one, it's happening a lot less now and they're becoming less and less effective.
They are a one trick pony and once you know that trick, it's easy to counteract. Give me some ice doms to lay ice patch down and stop the stalker getting close or a couple of members with Tactics pool to increase perception anytime!
TBH, I expect MM's and Stalkers to be the most under represented AT's in a pure PvP VG.
Gravity Doms, Ice/Rad/Kin Corruptors seem to be the ones in CoV that make the difference. 2 or 3 ice corrutpors will make those melee fighter near useless as they stack the AoE slow toggles on them and leave them practising their 'Baywatch slow motion running' while the rest of the team annihilates them

I find stalkers quite useful and in capable hands a real handful. Anway moving on I feel the biggest problem you face is loyalty. Whilst I love to be part of a pure pvp sg I dont feel its really viable as I cant see many people leaving there existing sgs. I feel it be more viable when people have hit the level cap (50) and are not really needed for prestige (as well as taking up valuable space).
Anyway look forward to the chats on union leaders about plans etc.

I'd imagine that stalkers have a role to play in IoP raids, when they are better equipped for sneaking in enemy base, finding a suitable location and planting those pylons..

Sorry if it wasn't clear Max but I wasn't expecting people to leave their current VG's. I expected the majority of members would be second alts of PvE players who ALSO want to PvP(though any PvP only players would be welcome)
By getting PvE players in, it gives us plenty of chances for inf injections to bankroll SO's etc by using our mains. That way, we can also have a reasonable group of alt's to help PL us.
I for one will still be playing all my PvE alts in their current SG/Vg's and this Vg will just have my pure PvP alt in it.
the reasoning behind this is that there don't really seem to be any dedcated PvP VG's like there are SG's.
I've already 'inherited' a functioning base from a dead VG and got about 7 dedicated PvP'ers in already and got about 4 or 5 others who are going to roll a PvP alt for this group over the weekend.
Hey kinslayer
My sg The Horde are just starting out pvp (done a lot of arena and PvP zones) got 1st raid against The Machines this weekend.
What we do is have the chars we are using in The Horde and put our alts and 40s ect were not using in Horde Elite.
A lot of are pvp builds are in Horde Elite and we swap them back wards and forwards when we are pvping.
If you wanted to join Horde Elite to store your pvp builds and then come on raids with us when we raid with The Horde to boost are numbers im sure it would benifit us all

The Hordenly the strong survive
OK, the Union PvP specific VG is now set up!
If you have a PvP alt, please consider joining us as this is a server wide effort. the idea is that people stay with their main Vg and just put a PvP specific alt in here.
We can PL these lats up, work on tactics, run test raids etc.
I've got a lot of the CoH 1 AT SG's on board already along with Last Line Of Defence, New Blood Rebellion and a few of the CoV VG's.
I'm also going to talk to Art of War and see if any of those are interested in helping the project

If nothing else as long as you have good computers you can lag your foes into submission .
Honestly though some MMs are deadly esp. in cramped areas.

My G-O-D! did u just eliminate any possibility to success with this comment??? expect tons of PL-beggers and n00bs to join u, and demoralizing the PvP-VG.. i seen it before.. ppl that join for the PL, looks good and friendly all the way, Ding lvl cap, and quits SG as soon as he has enhanced.. sure i would love to join ur project with a secondary toon and check it out.. but again.. my own VG is the strongest PvP-VG on union, so it would be only for the reason to try and fight from the weaker team =P and have a fun thing to do, when my own VG dont need my attention.
(if that comment bugged u, feel free to raid us: sundays 8pm GMT, contact: @.Dr Death)
bring this topic up on 'Union Leaders' some evening, and we can all discuss it together =)

Actually feel a little insulted by that comment. I've been running a VERY successful SG on CoH since day one. I know what a noob is, know what a PL beggar is and I'm really not that stupid. This will be a VG for PvP players who want to improve the Union CoV reputation as a whole, not their individual reputations or just to get PL'd. I expect very few 'new' players in and all the players who have joined so far are established PvP'ers known to me or someone else in the VG.

I want to try and be diplomatic here but it's EXACTLY that sort of logic that I think is holding Union CoV back. This is not about me wanting a great CoV PvP VG, in all honesty, I'd rather not lead it. This is about giving CoV Union a DEDICATED PvP VG as there seems to be a denial on CoV union that when it comes to PvP as a COMMUNITY we are failing miserably compared to our CoH equivalent and the French servers.
IMHO this all comes down to the fact that on CoV, we have PvE VG's with PvP players in as opposed to a dedicated PvP VG which ALL the servers PvP players contribute to.
Dr. Death, I'm really not sure if you're trying to goad me into a flame war but I'm trying to do something positive for the server here so I'd rather leave it at this with regards to the Violators and just accept you are completely against the idea and do not want to contribute as I don't think belittling or mocking each other's opinions really paints either of us in a good light.

Gorgog, I'd be interested in catching up with you in game to discuss the use of MM's in raids. We've found them to be pretty much useless when attacking as they get face planted before they can set up pets and the only use we've found in defending is the use of the repulsion bubble to protect certain areas.
We must be doing something w wrong and I know our resident PvP MM, Hub, would be interested on swapping ideas. My global is @Kinslayer.
MM's are good for defending. but not for attacking... although they need to fix the bug with pets spawining before the raid starts (after I7) else the pets will be higher lvl than the raid.. and when the raid actually kicks off the time it takes to spawn the pets > upgrade them will just not be enough time. - at the moment its ok as they are all lvl 40.
kinslayer. I'd like to make a Brute to join in. at the end of the day you are trying to make a better event for all. so I will support you in your venture.. and Im sure a lot of AoW can bring a alt to the SG if you so wish..
Oh PLing, I want some of that.
Dont make anything but corrs and stalkers, you dont need anything else. Perhaps a dom or 2 for the toggle knocks and added control. And your good to go. For base raids if your attacking a stone brute or 2 might be nice to have to take the others alpha strike. But basicly in any PvP team you want about 3 people attacking and 5 people playing support of some way.
Bah I forgot about the MM using force bubble to create a disruption is buff and heals. But aside from that making alot of corrs is the way to go.
For an 8 person team, go something like 3 * spines stalkers for the main damage and 5 corrs for support. 1 Sonic, 1 Kin, 2 Thermals and 1 Cold. You cant really go wrong with a team like this, unless the corrs stop buffing and healing the team. Corrs are also increadible at spiking, so you should include that in your tactics.
Stone Brutes, MMs(force fielders) and doms are nice to have for support of that main team. Just remember doms dont work without alot of buffing.

I know we have a gap on the brute front and could do with a couple of granites. Other than that, we've pretty much gone as you've said with Corruptors and Dom's being the flavour of the day with a few sprinklings of Stalkers.
Build wise, Ice, Rad, Kin are the only ones being used so far for Corruptors and stalkers all seem to be Energy/Spines paired up with regen. On the Dom front, we are also a little light but gravity and ice seem to be the ones we have most of.
I'll work on getting a complete list of AT/Primary/Secondary and posting it here so we can see the 'Obvious PvP Uber Builds' that are missing.
Dont go uber builds fx.
2*ill / emp
2*spines / regen
2*ice / nrg
will get their [censored] chewed off against a team with
1 ill / emp, 1 sonic defender, 1 */kin troller, 1 bubbler and 2 ice / nrg blasters. Its about being diverse and having buffs and debuffs do handle everything. Not having 2 thermals on your team is a mistake, these guys should play healer and buffers, nothing else.

Yeah. We should even considder making them on Union as it seems more active than defiant.
A Paragon Defender
Guys, I've been trying to get into the raiding mode lately and have realised my VG will NEVER be able to raid well.
- We are a PvE VG, with PvE builds and only a couple of PvP'ers.
- We have a strict no alt policy so even though some of us have PvP builds, they're in our alt VG which has a very basic base and not enough of us to raid effectively.
- The raids we have done have seen most of our VG vowing not to waste time with them again due to chan holds from controllers and being completely unable to compete with attackers that have even one or two PvP builds
The upshot of this is that I have a few VG members that want to take part in raids but not enough to make it effective, leaving me with a couple of ideas.
Join a PvP specific VG with our PvP alts.
If there is a PvP VG out there who wants to take us all in, that will be great but there are a few points to mention. Those of us that do join, will be largely inactive as these are just PvP alts. We will come along to raids etc but once we hit 40, it's unlikely we'll be PvE'ing with them as we have plenty of PvE alts in our main VG.
Try To Create A Separate PvP VG On Union
Similar to what Art of War have done on CoH, we create a VG purely for PvP purposes. This will be made up of PvP alts(or mains) and will be open to everyone on Union, regardless of if they have mains in other VGs
Again, if there are already similar VGs like this on Union, let me know as I think I have a couple of people who will want in.
First off, Im judging feedback to this thread to see what response is like and if I find there are a lot of CoVers who are in the same situation as me, in a great VG that I dont want to leave but would like to join a second one with an alt purely for PVP, maybe a few of us can get together and get the ball rolling.
