Call me crazy, but I thought that was a known animation issue anyway. If not, it should have been, and I'm not surprised it's getting changed. Seeing as WW will still presumably do its job - i.e. Repel - I don't really think you can fairly call it a nerf either.
Still, cue ranty knee-jerk replies in three, two, one...

Animations which force you to make a specific stance for the duration of the power rendering you unable to move, are said to "root" you in place - this can put you in some danger (especially in PvP) as you're effectively immobile until the animation ends.
Due to the nature of Whirlwind, it currently removes the "rooting" aspect of any such animation, allowing you to execute the power without the associated animation penalty - hence, "unrooting" you.
Some thought this was intended, some thought it was a bug, and it would appear that those of us in the latter group were right, from Castle's PM.

Was thinking of asking on here if that was the case, certainly rumors on the US site, though why do they leave it till now to do???
Since its possible to AS through WW as the ticks are so slow cant actually see a single reason why it should be taken now considering the end drain.
Guess devs arnt happy untill all the last powers in the pool powers suck.
Speed, Hasten>WW. Fighting, Tough>Weave. Leadership, Tactics>Vengeance(for most ppl), well the list could go on.
Call me crazy but given that you already need two powers from a pool to get the last and the last is at level 20 shouldnt it be that the last powers are better, not worse then the earlier ones?
Edit: Not saying it shouldnt be changed btw as probably a little bitty unfair on melee ATs but really the pool power order is messed up.

Well, as far as I know (and it's not much, but people like Concern in the post I linked have a good history at keeping track of dev's posts) no dev ever commented to explain if it was a bug or a feature. Statesman made a misleading statement which could mean it was intended for WW to work that way, for some people.
Sorry about the thread title, it was a poor choice of words. I'd edit it to "WW possible change", but it's too late.
They already nerfed it from knockup to knockback in I6, if they add this too it wont have any PvE use anymore

Loads, because you get unrooted attacks you can if you have a blue or two perma knockdown a boss. Great for soloing blasters on invinc.

I guess its all down to the different ways that you communicate with people that you know and/or are your friends. The same thing from a friend or a stranger can have two totally different meanings.

i got WW cos of the unrooted attacks...
hmm, strange, after reading this thread and the one on the US boards nothing was said about it actually being changed, Castle says he is still figuring out how rooted attacks could be applied to the power. So basically the only thing that is confirmed is that he may be thinking about the programing, not that anything is being done.
Personally I would prefer a hurricane type animation for it (i.e rotating winds) instead of the stupid spinning top animation it currently has.

If it worked like Hurricane however it would be a blasters best friend. Hell, I'd respec for it.
I don't think giving it the same animation of a defender/storm power is the right thing to do, especially since it's considered 'anti-Stalker'.

whirlwind could just be a whirlwind around you in the same context as the hurricane power

Short version : it seems _Castle_ said in a PM Whirlwind isn't intended to unroot, and that he's aware of the abuse and trying to find a way to fix it. Whirlwind is supposed to be a pool power version of Repel.
I'm hoping they won't nerf hurdle and CJ stacking in I8.
