Also, I forgot to say that the debuffs from rad make no difference to the length of time a hold lasts.
I have killed tons of AV's who where perma held the entire time, all the 10-15 secs they lasted.
I could imagine a full team of fire/rad trollers being able to do the same, presuming they are all buffs with 8*AM, they all use EF. Maybe the imps could get in the way of each other and lower the damage?
Perma holding AV's for more than 10-15 secs is impossible afaik. When the purple shields come up, the AV isnt held any more.
I have been on teams with 6-8 trollers and there was no way we would do it. Perhaps if the rads added choking cloud they would have a chance?

Without the purple triangles up AVs have a hold resistance of about Mag6 or so. With the purple triangles up, it goes up to about mag20 or so. You won't be able to perma-hold any AVs, Lui.

Echo..... Agreed Perma holding AV's sorry just wont happen. Don't fancy the chances for much else though with crazy AM'd Imps and all those debuffs.

just jumped on this post and getting the general idea, u cant perma hold an AV but since i5 my fire/kin with no support can last longer against an AV than a tank with no support. i say no support because since i5 a tank cannot tank an AV without support no more than a controller

Don't discount Minerals - in my experience, Stone Tanks (not perma-Granite) do better against Psi AVs than any other tank, in fact.

A blaster and a scrapper would have better luck against an AV if they had a kinetics defender instead of any tank.
I have been a scrapper in such a setup.
The kin can debuff and the res from ID is much better protection, than tanks tanking 3 hits and dieing.
Thats a really big problem with this game. Buffs/debuffs are much better than what tanks get.

But a Tank would be better off against an AV with an Empath alongside them, than with a Blaster or Scrapper. Indeed, were all the above mentioned to team up they'd all have an even better chance of survivability, all that proves is that you do better with buffs than with someone taking aggro from you, which is no great revelation, and no real criticism of the role of Tanks. All the Kinetics in the world won't save your [censored] when the group of Nemesis in the corner pop into aggro range with two helpings of "flashing red-headitis". (The res from ID would be of little-to-no use against certain AVs in any event - the big point of difference would really be Transfusion/Siphon Speed.)

have you seen they do to scrapper my poor mate got one hitted by shadowhunter and one last thing without a empath u will i promise you WILL die horribaly (a tank would help to)

Debuffs from RAD and/or DARK def will mitigate loads of incoming damage and prevent most deaths. And they heal ( to a lesser extend) too. Dark being my personal favo. BTW twilight grasp has very good heal values for if thats needed, while debuffing regen, dam and accu a little as well.
Siphon power and fulcrum shift can reduce AV damage (a lot actually). Siphon Speed makes the AV attack less frequent.
Its not only the heals.
Yes kin wont save your butt against nems, but in a team of only 3 nems arent that big a problem. My scrapper would be able to solo them.

A kinetics has incresed density which offers 39% res to smashing damage. If the kinetic defender uses siphon power too, you can more than cut the damage to 50%. If you dont have a tank, dont bring an empath (with this setup).

agreed kinetics is amazing for avs, its a lot easier to duo an av with an energy tank and a kin than an energy tank and empath
well what u may not know is that there wil be 3 fire/radiation controllers, AV's wil have naff accuracy to extreme and if they do hit us it wont be much and with us 3 in a group with 3 AoE heals we wil be fine, i bte in june or july when we r lvl 50 holding AV's wil be easy. the only reason u say u cant perma hold and AV is because when it turns on its defense, but if we start out holding it, it wont be able to turn it on!

ooo good combo
Throw in a spines / regen and you have my team to lvl 50 the last time. It took arround 162 hours including 20-30 hours of PvPing. Yes these guys level fast, once you get to lvl 20+ there is nothing stopping you guys.
Oh yeah we has a sonic defender too.
