Fury
It also builds when you get attacked.
[ QUOTE ]
- Is it based only on the number of attacks you attempt?
[/ QUOTE ] Yes. Hits and misses count the same.
[ QUOTE ]
- Is there any factor on the "size" of the attack (ie: will a bonesmasher build more fury than barrage?)
[/ QUOTE ] Nope
[ QUOTE ]
- Is there any factor considering the color of your target?
[/ QUOTE ] Nope
[ QUOTE ]
- If it is only on number of attacks, would powers such as flurry (many rapid, weak attacks) be useful for building fury rapidly?
[/ QUOTE ] Nope. Flurry counts as 1 attack and due to its long animation would actually slow you down. Stick brawl on auto, certainly at the lower levels when you dont have a full attack chain.
Like Empath said, getting attacked also builds Fury, whether they actually hit you or not.

Like OV_ohms has said there are basically two things that build Fury:
1) Making attacks (hit or miss)
2) Being attacked (hit or miss)
Only "click powers" count for Fury building (area damage "toggle powers" like Blazing Aura, Death Shroud & Mud Pots dont build Fury) and using an attack power counts as one attack, so Flurry and other slowly animating attacks (Jump Kick, Shadow Maul, etc.) are very poor for building Fury - that's because Fury decays at a constant rate, no matter what youre doing, so slow attacks actually lose you Fury over the time they take to animate.
So to build Fury quickly use fast attacks in a continuous chain with no gaps/breaks. Brawl, Boxing, Jab, Stone Fist, Energy Punch, Shadow Punch etc. are great Fury-builders as they animate fast (anything that animates faster than 2 seconds is good) and also have low recharges (under 6 seconds is best - Recharge Reducer SOs are your friend), so its easier for you to chain together several attacks with no gaps (usually 3-4 attacks for a continuous chain). It's also a good idea to set one of those fast attacks as your "auto-power" (hold down CTRL and left-click the power in your tray) so it will automatically be used if there are any gaps/breaks in your normal chain of attacks.
Solo most of my Fury comes from my own attacks, but in teams the fights go faster so I find the only way to build Fury quickly is by making sure I'm attacked by multiple enemies at once. You can ensure this by being the first team-member to get into combat (you take the "alpha strike" - all enemies attack you, because youre the first target they see - just be sure you can survive it! ) and/or by using a damage aura toggle (like Blazing Aura, Death Shroud or Mud Pots - I think Invincibility has a taunting effect too) or other area attack to annoy as many enemies as possible.
I've found fire sword circle can draw agro from any of the damaging aura's......... I've painfully found the fire sword circle can draw agro from any of the damaging aura's.
AoEs are your friend, they draw mobs to you like no tomorrow. Jump into the middle, hit your AoE and you have everyone's attention

does scrappers get anything similar to fury? cuz they sure do a [censored] of damage in pvp

They have a percentage chance of doing Critical (double) damage.
Scrappers get a chance (10% on most powers, usually 20% on one) of a critical hit for double damage. Their base damage is also significantly higher than a brute.
I really should do something about this signature.

Ah thats interesting I thought my death shroud was helping me build the fury bar up pretty quickly although after reading this I guess it must be more to do with the number of attacks I take based on all the aggro that brings on, so although not contributing to fury itself the fury bar still shoots up in mobs. I tend to jump in the middle of mobs take their alpha strike and then hit regeneration while smashing them around or letting the team pick off their targets.

[/ QUOTE ]Not to forget that the chance to critical is higher when attacking mobs of higher rank (lt's, bosses, EB's...)
Right i knew about almost all of this from personal experiance with my brute, i didn't know that AoE didn't cause fury from agro so thanks for that, obviouly im still gonna get em for the agro . I especially knew about the animation thing as that was a very hard pill to swallow when i got the jump pp lol getting rid of jab to do so.
however i do have 2 question that are linked .... can i set 2 moves to be auto? like brawl and boxing, and would their recharge be too fast to do any other moves??

I'm afraid not.

Having two auto-powers would be too much like having an auto-attack - and we don't want one of those
Boxing, Brawl and Jab (from Super Strength) are all so fast at animating and recharging that with my brutes I've found they usually go off between every attack, whichever one you pick as auto - my SS/Dark is particularly easy because his attack chain is just Haymaker, auto-Jab, Air Superiority, auto-Jab - rinse & repeat (with the occasional Knockout Blow when I'm showboating at full Fury, hehe).
Heck even Air Superiority or something like Punch (SS)/EnergyPunch (EM) recharges fast enough to make a good auto-power (perhaps with a Recharge Reducer in) - my FM/FA used Air Superiority as auto-power for a while and it was very pleasing to have that reliable knockdown keeping enemies on the floor most of the time. In fact that's the whole reason I started a SS/ brute - knockdown addiction
I guess you could stick 3 recharges in Boxing/Brawl/Jab, although you're still limited by the animation time - once you have a full attack chain the animation time matters a lot more than the recharge time.
i know that base(no enh) brawl is 2sec recharge and boxing is 2.5secs, however i would be interested to know how fast the animation of boxing is? it might decide what my auto will be nxt respec.
It has an activation time of 1.07 seconds (according to hero builder). Brawl's is 1 second.
cheers brawl it is then
Rofl, so cryptic have actually come up with an AT for which brawl is a useful power
My Dark/Dark Brute loves charging into a group of Longbow and getting wailed upon, the fury goes upto 85-90% in the blink of an eye.
Machine Guns and Flame throwers are a brutes best friend (small damage but multiple attacks)
One fire sword circle, followed by a Dark Regen to recover from the alpha usually gives me full fury if I'm in a big team. Not saying I always survive after that, but damn its fun

First off, I gotta hand it to the devs. Usually I don't like playing melee characters much, and find tanks boring, but MAN, fury is so perfect. It just makes the AT. Watchin the fury meter just makes you rush from fight to fight and smash, smash, smash. Perfect.
On that note, I had a few small questions regarding building fury:
- Is it based only on the number of attacks you attempt?
- Is there any factor on the "size" of the attack (ie: will a bonesmasher build more fury than barrage?)
- Is there any factor considering the color of your target?
- If it is only on number of attacks, would powers such as flurry (many rapid, weak attacks) be useful for building fury rapidly?
Thanks for any help.
