This is just an idea, open for debate right now. I know similar things have been attempted, but I’ve known systems that have worked, they require either a lot of community support, or the equivalent of a full time job. I don’t have the second to spare, but if I’ve got the support of enough people then I’m willing to try and get this working properly.

What I’d like to attempt is the publication, on a frequent basis, of an IC newspaper. This would basically contain publicly visible plot events (such as the hospital thefts that have been happening recently), feeder events for plots not yet actively running, fiction on other newsworthy events in the city, with the potential for fiction pieces to be picked up as plot ideas by GM’s, and if there’s enough support possibly even gossip columns, adverts, horoscopes etc.

What I think will make this viable is the inclusion of something that to my knowledge hasn’t been tried before, the filler fiction fluff. Not only will this give us a bit more realism and world depth, it will also mean that the newspaper won’t be in danger of stalling during low-plot periods because of lack of material.

What this will need to work though is a lot of contributors, I wasn’t kidding when I said solo this is a full time job. This needs plot GM’s to write up news reports, and to write them up as soon after the event happens as possible. It needs people to be willing to write newspaper style fiction.

I honestly believe this can work, although I’m not yet sure how frequently it needs to be published to make it workable. The system I’ve seen working best (and that I’m basing this off) was run as part of a weekly LARP, with a weekly publishing to keep everyone up to date with the downtime happenings.

So, I guess it’s open to debate. Is this a good idea for GG (or even groups outside GG), is it workable, and would people pay any attention to it?

I could probably help out, Madame Celinda and her problem page, and with some brushing up should be able to write and churn out news by the bucketload, even if it is "Grav Mistress opens new Supermarket."

Hey, "Grav Mistress opens new supermarket" isn't actually a bad story idea...

Every paper needs human interest fluff after all...if it works for real papers...

Miss Ellie on drunken binge?
Velvet Vengence home videos released online?
Zorielle Rolando in tax fraud?

Wait, the Sun, Mirror and Star aren't real newspapers. Nevermind!

Stargazer in pole dancing scandle?

I'll help if I can come up with stuff to write.

I could definitely lend a hand - spare time sort of thing obviously - but it's areally good idea

Hey, we might even get the front pages of Rodue Isle Reporter (??) and Paragon City Times changed once in a while...

But don;t hold your breath!

I should imagine horoscopes would go along the lines of...

Gemini - Voices in your head? Strange yet blurred visions in the dark? You might well be forgiven Gemini for thinking that it's yet another plot by those dastardly Circle of Thorns to enslave the citizens of Paragon.
However, a quick trip to your local GP will soon inform you that in actual fact, you have become a dope fiend. No, it's not an infernal plot by Dr Vazhilok - you have, indeed, become a dope fiend. Try going out more and getting some excercise. Your local library should have some educational pamphlets.

That sort of thing? Or maybe more - the letter 'M' and hordes of trolls are unlucky for you. Wear your nice pants on Thursday as there will be a sudden gust of wind...

that sort of thing?

Joking aside I would love to write a few bits here and there. Of course, I'll have to show up to GG for the gossip column!

"War Crow in 3 in bed romp?"

"I'm having Nevermore's baby"

"Molok is my secret husband"

"I'm the kid who bullied Max in school"

Sounds like fun! I'm in. Definitely a great way to drop plot hints without being too obvious or over the top, and it could be a good laugh too.

Funnily enough... I did bandy about the idea of Miss Ellie working in the newspaper as a gossip columnist... Given her hearing etc

Discarded the idea as I didn't want her lynched!

Shouldn't that continue with "...and after 20 years, I can walk again?"

Can we have a letters page? Purely so we can have Eddie Munt wiriting in every issue to complain about what those heroes are doing at his beloved statue

No, actually it's:

"Man wakes up after 20 year coma, after bullying Max at school."

I am interested to help.
Don't know exactly how as it depends on the form and type of the newspaper itself.

But it's an interesting and creative thing to do.

It'll be nice to get a Newspaper instead of a newsheet that comes out once every couple of weeks I must admit.

I haven't forgotten the gossip column article about Ellie and Jess, honest! Just been a tad busy! Can't tonight either, just got a new video card and widescreen lcd monitor, so want to play with it!

Soon as possible, promise!!

Ok, some details

articles should be submitted to ggnewspaper@yahoo.co.uk aiming for 75-150 words for a short piece, 2 to 3 times that for an in-depth article.

People willing to write regular pieces should send in their piece for the first edition, along with an idea of how regularly they'll be able to contribute (I'm still hoping for a weekly publish)

News articles should be marked in the title as either plot or fiction, plot I'll try and get into the next edition, fiction may take a couple of weeks to appear depending on space.

Let's see if we can work a little bit of GG magic.
