And I'd like to know if how I RP actually shows up as a bloke typing in the manner of a super heroine / villainess - discuss

I don't know your characters, so it's a little difficult to tell.

Sorry Ravenswing, just trawling through the Wiki threads and came across this again - I tend to roll female characters because in comic books I prefer them. Not in a sexual way because I'm g_a_y but because, I dunno, perhaps they've always had more to prove.

Playing as Arctic Princess especially I'd be interested to know what people thought. It's probably a ratio of 75:25/ego:curiosity if I'm totally honest.

In north america redheads are hot, but mousey girls, that turn out to be "freaks in the sheets" or dominatrix like personalities in bed.

In europe ( england) redheads are made fun of, bunt of jokes or just there and have no special rules or lesbians ( wel maybe just in sugar rush).

On topic , i have no prob with guys being girls and vica verca, especial i guess since i do more IC missions than GG, only think i went there about 5 times. I don't do it myslef , mainly becasue i imagine me as a hero when i create one and not so much playing another person, tho i have crossed race, but thats easier for me coming from a mixed race family then picturing myself as a woman.

PLayed bugs, females, males, and now currently a sheep cross Rottentroll. I think I got it nailed.

Well, I normally play males, but I currently have a SS/Inv Female Brute going, Jenna Side.

I don't see anything wrong with it, as long as you don't go down the route to cyber.

I don't see the point in playing an RPGame, if you're not going to RP, and are just going to make an ingame character of yourself...

The point would be that:

a. Roleplaying in an MMO is entirely optional, because...
b. MMOs are physically incapable of recreating a real roleplaying environment.

CoX is an environment you can roleplay in, it is not a roleplaying game.

Well, CoX is an environment you can roleplay in spite of, to be fair.

I was trying to be positive about it.

I both resent and resemble those remarks. I won't tell you which one I resent and which I resemble, but it's safe to say I am a redhead.

I am also a woman, don't play blokes, as I simply can't do it without falling into stereotypes. :s

Heh.

I am blonde. With all that that implies.

Just don't ask, okay?

Sorry Aisla! didn't mean to offend! I was just adding to the "rules of movies" referencing to red heads , if you look at almost all ( north) american movies with redheads, ( american pie, wedding crashers, Tomcats, Titanic etc..)there abit shy, but hot and very freaky (hip hop term meaning "seductive", hard to explain) when alone. I prefer redheads over blondes and brunettes, (im also canadian, lots of my canadian friends like redheads too lol)
Really didn't mean to offend in anyway!

Nooo!! Silly lad, I meant that as a joke! :-)
*Sends hugs* Wasn't offended in the slightest, in fact, I though it very amusing!

No bad feelings at all mate. :-)

Realised I hadn't put my two inf in:

I've always played Male characters when given the choice in games, and in a roleplay setting, I'll play Male characters. It's nothing sexist, I just feel weird about the thought of playing a woman, and probably wouldn't get it 'right' anyways.

So I leave it to the people who can.

I seem to go through phases.

My 'main' is generally male, probably because this is my alter-ego in the game. However, I find myself going through phases where I can only come up with interesting alts who are female. I'm having one of those now (at least my second recent attempt seems to have peaked some interest, the one before that got nothing and resulted in me giving up the game entirely for about three weeks ).

And sometimes I come up with male concepts. General result, the sex balance in my alt list wobbles between mostly male and mostly female depending on how I'm feeling.

Currently, it's heavily female biased.

I try not to concern myself with a players gender, to me it's not important. The only thing that's important when roleplaying is the character, as I see it.

Generally very true, though not the original point of the OP.

As I remember, the discussion was over whether or not people felt comfortable playing the opposite sex, how they did it, and why they did it.

That people do it, and that it isn't somehow abnormal is taken for granted.

So, do you play characters of the opposite sex? If yes, why, and what do you feel is important to getting it right?

I strike about a 50/50 balance of male and female with my characters but I can say without hesitation that the female characters are so much more fun to play, no idea why. In terms of getting a character 'right' I like to incorporate behaviour which I have observed around me. Just like when writing dialogue, it's a good idea to go and watch people and listen to how they talk. At the same time though, I'd say that there is no right or wrong, they are just your character in the end. It's all part of filtering events through your character and deciding how they would respond rather than how you would yourself.

I know that when I come up with a character that is a different gender to myself, it is important to decide what is important to that character and what isn't as this obviously informs their choices. And of course, men and women will have very different priorities (sometimes!).
