Playing the opposite gender.
[ QUOTE ]
My first girl toons vere perhaps overly meek, and I guess this goes for many male players.
[/ QUOTE ]
I've done the lot!
Glory is a total ditz... except she can be really wise at times.
Enherezza was an escaped slave and terribly submissive, except when hunting.
Velvet/Anna is a glamour model, used to dubious questions form men, and quite able to hold her own when it comes to conversations designed to make women blush. She's also a devoted mother, and the only character present who went all goo-goo at the baby that got brought to GG.

funny story on this subject, in SWG(galaxies) you could get rings and get "married" with other players. 2 men in my guild get marreid without beeing [censored], becouse one of them was female IRL. This was the most lolish RP event I have ever seen.

And the point of stressing this is what, exactly? Not meaning to sound like I'm getting at you, it's just that the statement gives quite a negative impression.

was just a funny example of gender RP gone wrong, getting merried is obvisely a RP event, but they where claiming to not be [censored] becouse one of them was female IRL.
/EDIT - Never mind, misinterpreted.

Ah, I see. Well, in that case I'd call them both homophobes and leave

Why would they be [censored] if they were both the same gender to begin with? It's Roleplay; i.e. not you.
[/ QUOTE ]
ROFL guess I should have added more details, my fault, they where claiming to not be [censored] in the game, even if they where merried
Obviously not serious roleplayers then, most of us don't let silly things like RL gender bother us in the slightest in RP, or sexual orientation orientation for that matter... Mind you, most of us don't let minor things like that bother us in RL either...
Oh, and I'd watch that getting around the board censor. Yes, that particular word being censored is really stupid, but getting around it is breaking the forums rules and could get you in trouble!

indeed, corrected*
A lot of people in my CoV Super Group play characters of the opposite gender. They can fit in the role really well, I'll admit I get confused by a persons gender.. I stopped trying to guess when I first started playing online games
I'm female and play a male character. I don't bother correcting people when they assume I'm male, because it is somewhat amusing at times. I think I need to work on the male aggression though
[ QUOTE ]
Surely its a much greater challenge to play a character who is non-human, weird background, superpowers, etc etc well than play someone of the opposite sex properly?
[/ QUOTE ]
Probably not, no. Basically because when you play an opposite gender character you've got to be convincing to people who really are that gender. When you play a character who is non-human, you're not playing to such a discerning audience - at least I don't think you are
I very very rarely see cross gender characters played convincingly, usually because they're too stereotypical, or because the gender of the character becomes such a heavy focus. Having said that a female friend of mine plays a very convincing male character, I very very much doubt anyone would ever think the character was played by a woman.
Personally I can't play male characters, I think it's that I can't get my imagination to really fire up unless I can put myself in the middle of things, whatever the reason, it doesn't work for me.

My partner says the same thing. Can't play males.
She also seems to think I do a convincing female though. It may be because I'm in touch with my inner girl.

You can get arrested for that birdy
All things considered, I think we've come to the final conclusion. It's part skill, part observation, part talent.

Um... but that doesn't work with the 'intent' joke.
I think you're losing your touch, FFM.

Nah.. The 'intent' joke had been done... It was old news man... I'm taking the thread beyond the 'intent' joke into a while new world of smutty humour...

But... it doesn't make sense. If I'd said "I don't play with members of the opposite sex in tents," that would make sense.
I can only assume that you've moved your humour style from "Carry On..." to "Monty Python".

I am a man. I play almost only female toons. Not that I don't create male ones, but I find only the female ones get played. My one male toon past 20 is actually an animated fluffy toy.
I care little if the player at the keyboard is male or female, but I find I like dealing with female toons better. I guess men playing women turn down their testosterone levels. I also find that male players who play both male and female characters are easier to deal with even when playing males.
I have also met some women playing quite testosterone-burdened male toons. I guess that is exiting for them in the way playing a woman is exiting for me, but it can be a bit obnoxious. I guess seeing the other side is a good way to get more empathic about these things.
If there is a problem with gender-bending in role play, I guess it is just this tendency to overdo things and stereotyisize. My first girl toons vere perhaps overly meek, and I guess this goes for many male players.
