There should be a penalty for death in PvP.

I've been thinking about some of the people on Union with the highest PvP reps, some of these people aren't actually good, they've just spent more time in PvP zones than anyone else. They seem to just get rep from people who don't really know what they're doing (Just speculation on my part), since I know that anyone I'd consider a 'good' PvPer would wipe the floor with them.

I know who I think should have the highest PvP rating on Union yet he doesn't. He hardley ever dies and gets a heck of alot of kills. (Before anyone says anything no I don't mean myself , and no I'm not talking to you Midnight.)

What I'm saying is maybe have it that rep goes up faster the less you die, or halves when you die alot, or maybe goes down when you do die.

This isn't really possible to use though, since Defenders who are a high priority target would and do get killed alot thus wouldn't really get positive Rep . Possibly it could work differently though? I wanna hear thoughts.

Got to agree there should be another way rep is handed out do it via the amount of damage or time debuffs have been on a toon. I my self dont care about PvP rep I know Im good at it but a lot of my toons dont land the killer blow so dont get any rep for the take down. The system they have at the moment seems to encourage kill stealing and thats just not right. There has to be a better way as I have meet people with uber PvP reps that dont have clue what there doing in the pvp zones its just make the rep system a joke IMO.

I thought they already had that in place as my 400 pvp points vanished one day

yeah i gotta agree that rep isnt really a good way to show a good pvper.. i know that my tank is regarded as a threat to villains when pvping yet he barely has rep cause he rarely deals the killer blow. i tend to team with an empath and a damage dealer so the empath can keep fort on me while i get alot of villains gunning on me while the damage dealer kills them yet this means i barely get any rep

"god, how many devs did hami have to sleep with to get ED?"

Hmm. so the experienced pvper whos already aware of how to deal with the other archetypes gets reputation, while the new PvPer with no exp, and possibly an unsuitable build gets none, or looses the little hes managed to obtain?

<sarcasm>Seems fair to me...<sarcasm>

Does reputation do anything yet? I guess dying could lose you reputation and that could be spread evenly across the team if a team member dies to stop squishies losing all their reputation because they are more obvious targets.

Also with that method the squishier team mates will be looked after more and make the team better.

Other than being a number to make players happy, does rep really matter?

Killing targets in pvp can be a challange yes...but lets not forget that the bots manage it quite well too, perhaps they should get pvp ratings too

"ARbiter drone 2,pvp rating 250"
zaaaaaap
"arbiter drone 2,pvp rating 251..."

The stat does seem kinda dry:

"I got a pvp rating of 9000!!!11!!"

"yeah and? I slapped <insert name of an enemy here> and survived for over an hour before he/she hunted me own and shived me in a titanic battle on the rooftops."

-I know which one impresess me most

There was a bug that wiped rep on zoning IIRC, it 'should' be fixed now though...

I think most PvP'ers know who the really good ones are, PvP rating really only tells that you have spent a lot of time in PvP zones. It's pretty meaningless in that sense.

Loosing rep on dieng is not such a good idea imo. If I'm on fair and fun fight, I often stay until the end, even if it seems sure I'm going to die. I think that makes the fight more fun. With chance of loosing rep, I might be more inclined to run. Also people might gang up on lone people and newbies more, and completely avoid the tougher opponents and that would make PvP less fun.

Can't really think a better way to fix the rep system thought.

Anyway I might be wrong, but I think you get bigger rep if you kill peeps without dieing yourself. I know I sometimes get 5 rep as bounty, but honestly I'm not quite sure why (doesn't happen often).

I thought this was due to the fact that the person I have just killed has been a pain. If you haven't been killed for awhile you get a bigger bounty. Whilst those that have been killed almost every 30 seconds (my corruptor comes into this bracket) gives away little or nothing. Its the reason why I don't mind charging (surprise attacks) on big teams. I know if I finish off that person I get a big bounty whilst my innevitable death leaves them with almost nothing.

As far as I know you get a 5pt pvp bonus for those who have reached 400 pvp points (the maximum) at least that is the only correlation I have found

That sounds so family being a defender myself

I can't think of a fair way to balance the pvp rep points. Some AT are more geared towards PvP then others and will therefore always have a higher rep (dunno why stalkers come to mind )

The whole losing rep when being killed would suck the fun out of it for me personally. If its shared amongst the team it would suck the fun out of it even more so. That would remind me of group debt experience as in EQ2. Say you get a person new to the whole PvP on your team or one of those that wont listen to advice and he keept running of chasing some bait whilst getting killed over and over again. Now i know he couldn't count as much if he keeps dying continuously but still would bug me if i was on a team with people that scatter about and get picked off one by one.

I'd love a better rep system but I really can't think of one atm

Halo 2 has a good rep system, but I can't see how it can be implemented into CoH. (Your rep is based on where you came in the rankings after a certain amount of time.) They would need to create a system where everyone in Siren's Call was on a score board and every team was ranked on number of kills then after each hotspot battle, PvP ranking would change. Halo 2 has different ones for Solo, team and team modes.

I think the term "squishies" need's to be looked at. Sure doing missions and stuff the defender controller and blaster could be called squishies. But once you eneter PvP I would say a good controller or blaster are for from squishie. I would even go as for to say they are the best 1v1 anyway. So i dont think they should get any extra rep points etc.

I think squishies is a term used for describing those with a low def and hit points combo. If the right thing hits them they are uber squishy, my stalker doesnt die much but he is super squishy if someone catches him

Makes sense I guess. As I said this happens to me once in a mooon so haven't got a chance to experiment much.
