Mastermind Tactics
Pick your targets
Depending on your secondary of course. Pick your targets in groups. If you have defence lowering abilities, have your pets focus on them when you debuff them. And lower damage output of mobs you're not dealing with yet. And root melee mobs to the spot if you have that ability.
Ambush and setinel mode are the same...
I mainly use click-buttons, controlling all bots in 1 click. With my upcomming protector bot i have 4 buttons:
(dont have exact macro command with me atm)
1. battlebots: agg goto / protector: def goto
My "move em out" command. Protector fight when needed, but mainly healing/buffing people.
2. battlebots: agg folow / protector: def fol
Same for 1, but they stick with me.
3. battlebots: pass folow / protector: pass folow
Basicly the "green" button you get with the basic set.
4. battlebots: agg atk / protector: agg atk
Also like the "aim" button you get with the basic set.
When i get the protector, i add another 6 buttons to have the "basic 3 buttons" for each of my bot-types (battle drones/protector). Main downside is having already 3 powerslot-bars nearly filled with just macro buttons, but once you get used to it, it gives great management.

A good tactic I was taught by Evil Khainestar is the pet decoy move:
On a rescue hostage mission where you have to take the hostage back to the beginning of the mish, keep your pets on passive.
Then when you see the first ambush, switch one of your pets to aggressive and send it Leeroy style into the ambush.
Whilst the mob are busy with your aggro machine, quickly sidestep them and head to the exit.
Remember to set it to hold its position otherwise it will try to catch up with you with mob in tow
Here's a couple:
1. When entering a room with limited visability of what it might contain send in a pet first.
2. When the pets have taken a mauling don't bother healing them at lower levels just resummon the pets.
3. If you're running anchor debuffs keep a close eye on who your pets are attacking and retarget as required to keep your anchor alive.
First time post on the boards, but ive tried out the tips and command macros, they work a treat. Very happy :-)
Welcome aboard!
More for the masses! (and yes, some macros are repeats as you might want to pick and choose what tactics you are using, and skip some. You can always issue the commands manually!)
Gather!
(/macro Gath petcomall goto pas)
Corruptor calling "Gather" before they fire off a PBAoE Buff? Want your henchmen to get the action instead of you? Use the goto command and click next to the Corruptor to send your henchmen running for the buff. Passive stance is best so they don't go haring off to attack something until everyone is ready too. Remember they need the buff more than you do (they do most of your damage!)
Stand your Ground!
(/macro Grnd petcomall goto agg)
Very handy when teamed with a Plant/* Dominator or */Traps Corruptor/Mastermind to keep your henchmen in the "comfort" zone of HP and other deployable-based buffs. Set your henchmen to aggressive, so they're still on the offensive then tell them to goto the deployable.
Tank!
(/macro Tank petcomall goto agg)
Need a tank? Sap some aggro form a large spawn? Run your henchmen into the middle of mobs using goto with them set to the aggressive stance. They'll all pick different targets, thus distracting the mobs from the Stalker sneaking around the back, the Dominator prepping to do a Domination-fueld AoE Hold, or absorbing alpha strikes so the Brute can get in and work his magic.
Master_Z i hope u know this, when i put my bots into passive mode, will my protector still start doing the bubble-buffs?

A protector in passive mode will NOT apply bubbles or heal damaged bots
I know this from experience. Use defensive stance instead, he'll still apply bubbles and heal, but shouldn't go haring off after anything.
As far as binds go, I favour focused firepower.
So, I've got /bind button5 "petcom_all attack aggressive" set up, which means I pick a target, fire off a rifle blast to get the initial strike aimed at me (cos it's easier to heal myself than a minion....), slap the forward button on the side of my MX510 mouse and watch as my firing squad starts removing the face of my designated target with their laser based friendliness
And while they're dealing with mook #1, I switch to another one, lob a web grenade at it and start softening it up in preparation for the first target to die.
On the subject of protector bot bubbles though, has anyone else noticed that the AI is a bit screwy when it comes to applying them? It'll start slapping bubbles on any pet within range, usually another Masterminds zombies/ninjas before it gets round to protecting MY minions <grrr> and it'll bubble me, but no other players on the team.
Hohum.

I use focused passive mode attacks to handle this better. Also great for when you're in large teams in areas like the Place Outbreak Containers mission to keep a rein on your mobs. Basically just the STRK command Master Z mentions in the original post as part 1 of the Pull strategy. Means you take each mob down quickly and the anchor should be the last to drop. Great for dealing with bosses & lieuts too. Plus for */dark it means once the mob drops the minions will return close enough for you to heal them before choosing them a new target.
The usually targetted version of petcom will select the last selected pet if none of your pets are currently selected. This means that you can set a bind (I use \bind c "petcom attack defensive") and do the following: -
1) Click a minion
2) Click a mob
3) Press the bound button, and the previously clicked pet will now attack the currently selected mob
I find this useful to "distract" mobs that are focussing their agro on my MM or a felow player, but wish to let the bulk of the pets remain focused on their current target.
Anyone have their own tips and tricks to offer us for the new year?
/bind lshift+lbutton "petcom goto"
This means that shift and lbutton makes the pet go to where you click. This is good for stupid pets who go the wrong way, particularly good for the melee sets if they are insisting on firing ranged weapons.
@Unthing ... Mostly on Union.
I use ctrl+lbutton (lctrl?) instead as lshift is generally used as the Teleport clicky.
Holding the wrong one down and clicking can lead to great fun

I currently have
/bind lshift+lbutton "petcom goto"
/bind lctrt+lbutton "petcomall aggressive goto"
/bind lalt+lbutton "petcomall goto"
However if I was a teleporter this might be a problem as you said.
I also have z bound to a default setting as excessive use of goto can result in stranded pets.
/bind z "petcomall passive follow"
@Unthing ... Mostly on Union.
Assist My Target
(/macro Ast assist$$petcomall att)
Because the standard targetting through a teammate doesn't work for henchmen commands and sometimes you want to take the heat off a teammate, you can use the /assist command which will manually target their target. I also find this useful to bind to Ctrl+Tab (/bind lctrl+tab assist) for manual targetting.

Now that is very very useful. I had no idea they all picked different targets - that's going straight onto the power bar!
I have a "Fetch" button, which sends one battle drone (Crosby the suicide bot) forward on his own to attack. Once his first shot goes off, he gets recalled on Passive (if he makes it back without getting blown up) ready for the rest of the lads, waiting with me on Aggressive, to administer a nice alpha strike on the poor goon he just aggroed as soon as it comes into range.
Melee/Mid-Range Madness
(/macro Go2 "petcom goto pas")
(/macro Atk! "petcom att agg")
This is a tactic often used on Ninjas, but of some decent use to other Masterminds at high levels. Got a Smoke Bomb'd Oni you want in range for Critical Firebreath? Assault Bot to get in range for a wodge of AoE Death (Flamethrower, Swarm Missiles, Incendiary Missiles)? Ninja you want in melee for their decent non-Ranged attacks? You'll want a bit of fine control then! Using the above macros, you'll need to select the henchman in question and use "Go2" to get it into position. Then, target the chosen mob and use the "Atk!" macro to get your henchmen to open fire.
just one thing...
(/macro Go2 "petcom goto pas")
How would I bind this to a key? Im new to MM's and atm, having to run in let the pets follow, rather anyoing as my Ninjas dont do great dmg at ranged, so need them always to be melle.. and if I stand back and choose attack, they all stand there like fools doing no dmg at all, then finally 1 runs in by himself, dies.. then another etc.. - If I drag them in, then its fine they survive and kill 10 times faster. (Oni is ok in ranged)
Anyone have any tips of how to make them melle, other than the goto command?, i.e is there a "melle"only command?
Cheers
You really want something similar to the tp bind so I think it will be something like(someone can hopefull correct the syntax if I have messed something up)
/bind lshift + lbutton "petcomall goto aggressive"
Which should mean that if you hold dow [censored] and click next to a target the will go the there and start attacking anything within aggro range.
There is currently no melee command so you have to manually force them into melee with goto.
It Burns! It Burns!
/macro Stp! petcomall pas stay
Hencmen complaining they're burning? Get the wusses to stop in their tracks by setting them to Passive/Stay then issuing attack commands without changing their stance again.
This will override their "Flee all over the map" behaviour in most cases (though I wish they'd fix that bug!)

A god send this! It's helped me to stop swearing quite so much when fighting Knives of Artimis.
Usual mission experience consisted of the folowing. Me yelling "Their only Caltrops! Come back and protect me...." followed closly by Blade of Artimis doing bad things to me.
DeathStar
Find a corner.
Set Genin to Defensive/Follow, Jounin/Oni to Aggressive/Follow, set Mortar,Triage,Caltrops,FFG,Poison Trap.
Switch view to look around the corner.
Send one Genin(Tie-Fighter) to attack someone. Recall to base.
Watch Genin take Alpha and die.
Watch Mobs hurry around the corner, stop on caltrops and aggro on Mortar.
Open paper, read paper, gather experience.
This also works very well in PvP. Though drop an Orange for protecting against MM TP.
Humanitarian's may wish to use Seeker Drones.
This also works with most pets.
This post existed on the US Beta Forums for Masterminds, and while I don't have the original content, I reckon it's a good thread to restart here! Where needed, I've added in the command to create a macro for a supporting command button.
Advanced Scout
(/macro Sct petcomall agg goto)
Use your henchman set to the aggressive stance, and issue them a goto command, to have them move through doorways and around blind corners. They can take the alpha strikes, and initiate the fight, allowing you to enter into the warzone in comfort.
Sentinel Mode
(/macro Snt petcomall agg stay)
Handy for bank vault missions, or other such where you know you may be attacked from the rear. Issue a Stay/Aggressive command to leave a force to guard your rear while you go ahead and deal with matters.
Ambush!
(/macro Am! petcomall agg stay)
Similar to the Sentinel option, in this case you leave your henches at the rear then use one of your own ranged attacks to pull enemies towards you. Run behind your waiting ambush and wait for the folls to fall into your trap. Good for thinning out rooms with many spawns.
Pull!
(/macro Strk petcomall pas att)
(/macro Rtn petcomall fol def)
Requiring two commands, this first has your henches to go to an enemy and attack, then issue the second to get them to return to you, bringing the spawn in their wake. This is handy for when mobs are out of your reach (e.g. on rooftops) and you have a henchman with the Super Leap ability (Ninja or Robots) or if you have prepared a killing zone using deployable AOE's or pets.
Please, add your own!
