try playing a stone armor that gets no energy defense until about lvl14+ - and considering most get a travel power at 14 its prob gonna b 16 for me :S (im 12 so far and cant get my 2nd toggle for def yet - only def to S/L so far - lol
Stone is actually a tiny bit better off than Energy overall (Pre-granite), managing 19.5% DEF vs S/L/E/N/P, 8.8% RES vs S/L & 29.3% RES vs C/F.
However, the fact that you don't get any kind of Energy/Negative protection until Lv28 and no Cold/Fire protection until Lv20 makes life much harder during the early levels.

I know what you mean spad my ene/ene brute is up to lvl 14 and im finding that i spend more time eating floor than a ene/ene stalker in my sg, had know idea of the numbers but looking at what you have i now know why as soon as more than two lvl bad guys attack me im eating floor
I amazed there is a set with a weaker def than SR, I was going to be EN, but in the end decided the animation for the shields anoyed me and switched to inv, not wanting anything too obtrusive to draw attention from the large stone mallet.

I got a bit freaked out by the low DEF as well until I had a glance at the powers list. I seem to recall there being a few RES armors in it which would make energy armor a mixed set come later levels? In the meantime I guess the same rules apply as when tanking with Ice...namely avoiding mobs several levels higher. Brutes don't draw as much aggro anyways so I reckon energy brutes will be ok at later levels.
I've included the RES powers in my numbers - they offer a whoppping 8.8% RES when 3-slotted with SOs (or 7.18% with 3 TOs ).

meh? how can so little a difference come from slotting SO's compared to TO's?
Because the base value is only 5.75% - so 8% and 33% of it are virtually the same.

aye - and consider that it takes 3 toggles to get that - 4 toggles if you dont want to be dropping every toggle when a +1 copper with a truncheon lamps you 1 - i get stunned a lot - im lvl 15 atm - still cant get rooted
one thing thats getting to me more and more lately - is how they revised the spawn points in hollows for example - for obvious reasons - but now i6 is in place its just as bad as hollows ever was travelling most places... and then you enter a door mish that has a junction with up2 three mobs and a boss or 2 thrown in just to make it worse (often sleeps too atm - bloody lost! ) and you have no ranged attacks or taunt
I had fun today - A +2 Luddite Boss.
Without fail, 5 times in total, he 2 shotted me. Didn't miss once.
This is a standard boss - god help me when I come across anything more challenging.

Not exactly filling me with confidence for my chosen powerset, really. I went EM/EA originally because I didn't want to exactly reverse my main tanks powersets, and I like the concepts behind EA.

I picked it for the challenge - unfortunately Cryptic don't think that it's a challenge (Same with Ice Armour, SR) and therefore nerf DEF sets equally or more that RES sets. Now I am very sure that my Brute is a challenge to play - and I've only played on the lowest difficulty so far. When I'm getting 2 shotted by a boss on Villainous difficulty, something is wrong.

Well they sure as heck don't come from anywhere official. We all should be making informed decisions, but to make informed decisions we need to analyse the US Forums and go on data that may or may not be accurate. Its the only possible way the system could work...

From several sources on the US boards as well as updated versions of the hero/villain planners. I haven't been able to confirm the RES yet, but the DEF looks about right from my limited testing.

So... ice was replaced by even worst set
I believe that if you had taken hoarfrost into acount , ICE would be 100% beter than EA... ice... the weakest of the tank sets...
Im gonna stick with my EA brute , but i admit that those numbers are big deception for me, i was realy expecting a good defence set from EA ! No taunt aura , no self heal , only 2 endurance recovery powers that come to late :/

EA needs tough from fighting pool, and self heal from medicine, but all we get is a lvl 6 power pool power !
How does it stack up against scrapper sets?
I'm curious. En/En brute is my first villain and had to be this because of concept. Brute is not a direct transplant of the tank, just the nearest approximation. Therefore I wouldn't expect it to be as good at tanking (though I would expect better at hitting things).

On average worse than Super Reflexes, which is the weakest of the Scrapper sets.

Well i dont know anything about the energy power sets but i have a level 18 dark dark brute now and i know untill level 16 i was hitting the floor every 2 - 5 minutes but i now can easily take a +1 mob with a boss in (even that ludite thing) slotted 3 Dos in Dark embrace and i seem to be alot more defencive with death shroud on and staying inbattle with about 8 mobs (same or +1) my fury bar goes from 0 - 80% in a matter of seconds my death shroud is then kicking out 20 damage to all i pull off Dark regen then Dark consumption back at full health and full end with 90$ fury take 2 steps back and shadow maul them kicking out 30 30 dots about 7 times to about 5 enemys needless to say there not around for much longer i do find the bosses hard sometimes but slotting tohit debuffs in siphon life seems to [censored] up there accuracy enought for if needed me to pull off dark Regen again and finish the job.....i know thats nothing to do with En/En but what i am saying there has to be a tactic you have not thought of yet i belive your are jumping up a bit too fast with the 'are you joking' comment fact Energy melee is more powerful than dark melee many more offencive attacks with some superiour damage attacks (dark has none) i dont know if you have a PBAoE to pull aggro but taking them out faster than me should be easy enough....please remember you are no tank and fighting + 2 level mobs and 14 of them anyway i doubt a tank at your level could do it
I have a tactic with my weakened Brute with his 3 DO's in his defences and that's to let everyone else take the aggro, because not only are the shields weak they're totally ineffective a +1 minion hits me for 45 with shields on...strange I think that's hard...Shields off a +1 minion hits me for 45. At least it's not an endurance drain

My understanding is that Brutes are supposed to be 75% of a tanker. Now I know there's no Energy Aura in the Tanker sets, but it was Ice previously and they're both DEF sets, hence the comparison.
As you can see, against the majority of the damage in the game, Energy Aura brutes get beaten by SR scrappers - and that's not even taking into account Scrapfiance.
