Illusion and Phantasm

I have allways thought that phants was a bad Pet(the worse IMO) and I finally respec'ed the git out of my build. Without 5 dam the damage from the pet is simply too low. And it is simply too hard to lure him into close range to make him use energy torrent.

What are your thoughts on phantasm. Before lvl 41 Ill just play as a pure troller and after I can easily get enough damage.

I quite like Mr Glowie. His Decoy can be very useful and to be honest I had him specced with 4 dmg + 2 accuracy so ED hasn't affected him too much. I've just 5 slotted him instead. He does enough damage for me too and since I have all the control illusion powers I can't see what would be more useful to me.

As for his poor positioning I recast if he's really being annoying and refusing to fight.

I wish Range SOs affected HIS range rather than the range at which I can summon him. Ditto with -recharges.

I just cant live with a pet spamming a 3 slotted power bolt. But I do agree that the decoy is nifty, and would have been my only reason to keep the power. But its too unreliable.

I've found he tends to go "Decoy" (if its recharged), AoE and then spam bolts / AoE as they recharge. And he does add to my DPS since in a group you can just leave him off and get to Blinding / Flashing etc.

Question is what to replace it with? Only 2 I don't have are Deceive (or whatever its called. The "Attack your mates" power) and Superior Invis.

And he's useful for Soloing when you can't find a team. Which might be more frequent now CoV is out.

I couldn't live without my phantasm. His decoys are very useful, the additional damage he weighs in with is most welcome and with the availability of the /release_pets option he is much more controllable with regards to mob agro.
For soloing he is invaluable, in teams he tends to constitue a large part of my damage contribution, along with PA, while I heal and buff the rest of the team.

It shouldnt be about just damage. My Phantasm allows me to solo +3 so I can't begin to imagine life without him.

With my Epic I do the damage not my pet, my pet can if he is having a good day maybe do about 20% of the damage I do(I5, cant imagine that would change in I6). His control is minimal and I can easily solo on invinc without, the PA are much better for control anyway. I wouldnt make a new Illusion / * and not pick up Phantasm cause the lvls between 32-42 is a pain without. However after getting the blast from the EPP and giving it some slots I would respec Phantasm out.

I wonder if all this will change with issue 6, because you might not be able to rely on the damage of one ability.

Of course I'm no troller, but aren't lvl 32 Pets meant to make Controllers much more useful, and make them pretty good at soloing?

Playing my illusionist, there have been many times prior to lvl 32 when I couldn't form a team, never had problems soloing. But then I enjoy my character concept, so I didn't compare kills per hour with other archetypes.
Play a controller, they're great.

No. I'm a gravity/* and sometimes I forget to summon my pet, or forget that I have it summoned. I don't rely on it at all. It's nice that it's there, and I wouldn't respec it out, but it's just an extra bonus on top of the rest of my powers rather than the be-all and end-all of my build.

Well after playing imagin in the arena he still pwns me - even more-so now , good choice.

That's what recall friend is for ...

or just dismiss it then resummon.

I'm keeping mine - I only lose one damage slot anyway ... seems to work just fine.

Mine was slotted 6 damage

Depending on the Tactics figures I might only 3 slot it now for damage, but hell no is it getting specced out.

the times i wish my Phant would fly, but of course he like to toy with me so he jogs to me while im trying to lock down those foes that didnt get hit the first time

Couldn't live without sparkly bits flying behind me.

Seriously, I love my phantasm, I use my buffs on it and the phantasm never ceases to amaze me, not only with it's stupid aiming/target picking, but at least it helps with aggro dispersement. (Which is a very strong point of illusion, BTW) - enabling me to sit about and concentrate on holding and mullering that Lt/Boss/badger I see.

I've actually dropped a slot and gone 3dmg + 2 accuracy. I had 2 accuracy in anyway as I tend to end up fighing oranges / reds / purples. Plus if I can be bothered with PvP he should hit a bit more than usual. My PAs were 2,2,2 slotted anyway so no real change there. Only had a bit of test time with this build but it seems Ok so far.

Illusion is a real "chaotic control" set with Taunting decoys and feared mobs making up for the [censored] pbaoe hold you have and the lack of immobilizes. The Phants decoy is great for this.

Personally i have self invis on all time during a mish and its no prob gettin him close then..and with the added dmg/acc/def from fort he can hit higher mobs than i can. I wudnt be without him

his slotting is: 2 acc / 3dmg / 1kb
