Stealth IO question

I've been working on a Predator themed toon. He's a lvl 43 Claws/SR. Right now he has stealth but I seem to remember someone talking about some IO's that you could put into a power that would also provide a form of stealth...anyone know what I'm talking about?

If you have any fun ideas for the Predator toon, feel free! The costumes look awesome so far! Already won a couple of CC's for my "Robo-Predator" )

There are four IO sets that contain +Stealth enhancements. They each correspond to a specifc method of travel. You've got Celerity (Run), Unbounded Leap (Jump), Freebird (Fly), and Time & Space Manipulation (Teleport).

All +Stealth IOs are unique so you won't be able to slot more than one. Achieving complete invisibility will require that you toggle on Super Speed while the IO is in effect. Keep in mind that Sprint can hold +Stealth IOs from both Celerity and Unbounded Leap. Also, you can't slot them into auto powers like Swift or Hurdle.

Great info! Thanks guys! Since he's a Predator, I gave him CJ and SJ. Would I be better served putting Unbounded Leap into CJ (if possible), SJ or Sprint? Also, is the rest of the set worth taking?

I'd throw it into sprint. You can run sprint with other toggles, but if you kept it in CJ or SJ, you could only run one of those. Sprint is clearly the best choice.

That's what I was thinking...just wasn't sure if there was some reason not to do that...

Yay, now I don't have to waste space on the Concelment Pool!

Also, the stealth IO stacks with the stealth power. If you dont take Superspeed, you can do that. If you dont stack it with ss or the stealth power, you will still be seen at close range.

So, what is the added benefit if I put Unbounded Leap into Sprint and toggle it on along with Stealth? I guess what I'm wondering is: Is it worth keeping/taking Stealth?

Stealth gives a +35 feet Stealth Bonus
Unbounded Leap: + Stealth Proc also gives a +35 feet Stealth Bonus.

If you only have one of these active, you will be seen when you enter melee range as normal enemies have about 40 perception. With both the Proc. in Sprint AND Stealth (the power) activated the bonuses stack to give you +70 feet of stealth, which makes you invisible until you interact with an enemy or object because around most normal enemies.

Here's a link to the paragonwiki article on Stealth that may help more: Stealth and Perception - Paragon Wiki

The short answer is if you can stack two stealthy powers, then you will be invisible for the majority of PvE content. The only thing that's going to see you are mobs with significant +perception, like snipers and Rikti drones. And against those critters, you got to stack about at least a couple more layers of stealth just so they don't see you in melee range. So it's not worth it trying to beat those mobs with your stealth.

The easy way to go full practical stealth is to take the Stealth IO and Super Speed. If you don't have Super Speed as your travel power, then you will need to take another power to stack with the Stealth IO, like Stealth from the Concealment pool.

Rikti drones don't have +Perception, they ignore stealth. there is a difference.

In a practical sense, they still see through double-stacked stealth for that matter. Though the mechanics may be distinctly different, the end is still the same.

rikti drones, KoA, eyeballs, some snipers, pylons?, ect... can still see a invis hard cap'd stalker and stalkers have the highest cap,... it's not worth anything in PvE (non-AE) to invest in more than invis, and stealth + stealth IO = invis, it will get you unseen by over 90% of the standard game, and super speed's stealth component counts for all PvE

The only thing you may want to consider is that if you go the SS + Stealth IO route you will not have the translucent appearance that is pretty much expected on a predator concept toon that you get with the Concealment PP.

actually, the stealth IO when actived (as by toggleing on sprint) does make you translucent (see through)

and thanx for the Avatar compliment... been useing that Avatar for almost two decades, and it's always been a perticular favorite of mine

I could be wrong but he might be referring to Invisibility's translucent outline aura, which is probably closer to how the Predator stealth is depicted in the movies.

The Stealth IO does indeed make a toon translucent/transparent like most standard stealth powers.

I would put the stealth IO in combat jumping. That way you don't have to have the end drain of sprint. The problem there is that it will turn off when you super jump.

If you got an account that is at least a year old, then you can use one of the prestige sprints as an extra toggle for the stealth IO. Yeah, it will still use End as much as sprint does, but it won't affect your other "regular" toggles if you don't want them to.

Another thing to consider is that the stealth lasts for a full 2 minutes after detoggling your sprint.
And other then combat the end drain isn't enough to make a huge difference, unless you're trying to rest next to the enemy...
then it still works for 2 minutes.

Also... the Stealth IO is 30'... same effect just makes it so bosses can see you at very close range.
