Why is Rage made so much better than Build Up Etc

Ok.. The real reason I started this thread is because I hate hitting Build Up and Aim. I just hate it. If it lasted longer and I didn't have to hit it as often I'd hate it less.

At least Feint and some of the others are actual attacks. So I don't feel like they do nothing. Heck for brutes they help to keep the Fury Bar going.

Rage clicks on for a good while. That's really why I think Rage is unfair. That and its in a powerset that I'm not really that interested in.

[/ QUOTE ]

Well that is really sad for you but do not expect ever that other powersets Build Up will be repleced by Rage. It is very unlikely. And besides, Build Up is a good power allready. There are no downsides to it and you can make it recycle as fast as every 30 seconds.

I may disagree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

Perfectly understandable. However, if each powerset did not have things that make it different and more fun to play in some ways than others, it wouldn't be a very fun game!

After all that enchanced damage being dished out for a long two minutes, ten seconds seems like a very minor if not negligable drawback to me.

[/ QUOTE ]

Fun fact: 120 seconds of Build Up has more rooted/no attacking penalty, due to animating the skill 12 times, than the 10 seconds of -9990% damage in Rage. It also costs more total endurance for 120 seconds of Build Up. Rage's only real penalty is that its costs are condensed.

So, even if Build Up could be made perma, it would STILL be arguably worse than Rage. This $#!% has bothered me since issue 1.

120 seconds of Rage:
<ul type="square">[*]30.2 endureance (5.2 up front, 25 after 120seconds)[*]10 seconds of -9990% enhanced damage, with ~1.4 seconds of rooted animation during initial cast.[*]10 seconds of -20% defense, which can be ignored even with just SOs.
120 seconds of BU:
<ul type="square">[*]~14 seconds of rooted animation, 0 damage, 0 control, 0 temp powers activated for full damage with a generous 20% toHit buff from stacked *cough* Rage.[*]52 total endurance
Just pointing out a few things:
1) BU does not cause you to be rooted. You can move around and activate it without stopping.
2) Damage Auras will continue to pump out damage as you activate BU and are the first to feel its effects.
3) You can reduce the endurance cost of 110 secs of BU below the cost of activating Rage and its crash. I say 110 secs of BU because only on the first aplication of Rage do you get its full benefits for 120 secs.Aafter that its 120 - 10 sec crash time if you reactivate Rage as the last application crashes, otherwise you get less time before next crash.

Two minutes of build-up for ten seconds of debuff? Yes please.

[/ QUOTE ]

Damn, you regen 5 end per second?!

Dark Melee is fairly overpowered now and I am preparing a grand thread showcasing it off

Err, this is like "showcasing it off" how great oxygen is...

Various and sundry "fixes" to rage

Most of you are vastly overstating rage and overnerfing to compensate, IMO.

I'd say, buff duration (or something else) in BU/AIM to compensate for their feelings of inadequacy.

Personally I would rather have a -1000% recovery and -160% damage debuff for 10 seconds. Feels like a cop out to do such an extreme damage debuff value.

*cough*Sands of Mu vet power unenhanceable damage*cough*

[/ QUOTE ]

Yup, vet powers are uneffected by the -damage, and if you happen to be FA you can use Burn during the rage crash and once it is over the Burn damage will jump back up on its own.

Edit: Its the endurance part that gets me.

[/ QUOTE ]

Burn damage jumps around on it's own anyways as it only seems to be able to remember 5 seconds of buffs/debuffs.

As for the topic, it has yet to make the game blow up, fall over and sink into a swamp for the last 5 years so let us give it 5 more and see.

I miss when rage used to knock you drunk unless you were high enough for Unyielding (stance? lol) to protect you from it. Then a rikti would go SLICE and bam you lost every toggle...

This is the other reason I don't like Build Up.

Plus I don't like Build Up because its the default Dev's couldn't think of anything original so we put it on most sets. Rage is only in one set.

Most taunt auras are auto-hit for the taunt portion. The auras from Dark Armor, Electric Armor and Fiery Aura require to-hit checks for all effects, so missing = no taunt. For Mud Pots, the damage and slow components require to-hit checks, but the taunt component doesn't.

The other somewhat unique damage boost power is Follow Up/Blinding Feint. I'm hoping to see something similar make it into a ranged set (Dual Pistols? Cross fingers!)
