Influence Badge question

I have about 400 million earned, and the epic badges are just .... well very hard to attain.

What critters drop the most influence?

Luckily my first character created and my main badger makes a great farming toon. When i16 hits I will have more motivation to get these badges with the spawn size increase option. (maybe)

Or would you say that teaming, say doing tf's would be just about as good for influence earnings?

I'm a little odd, admittedly, but when I want influence, I run the "Strange Case of Benjamin A Decker" Oro arc repeatedly. Every mission is quick, and the end of mission and end of arc bonuses come fast, if you load relatively fast.

Rikti Comm Officers give lieutenant level rewards for minion level difficulty. You could run around the north end of the War Zone for +4 COs. Run in kill the CO and run away over and over. Don't know if it's the most efficient way but it's a possibility.

[edit] Pillboxes in RV give very good rewards but the pvp hassle may not be worth it for you. [/edit]

I guess the real question is: Do most of the "badgers" get this one, or is it too mind numbingly dull to stick with?

By the way, I'm really disappointed that we cannot get progress on influence badges in Mission Archetect. I would be trying out everyone's arc if we could.

Mix it up to keep things fun.
Exemplar down to some low level friends & earn inf while you hang with your buddies (outside of the AE).
Do some task forces or trials.
Or try some oroborous flashbacks.
If you are in a hurry, go grind out the battle maiden farm hero side.

Personally, Achievement is the tab I worry least about. I hate afk badge farming, and a lot of it leads that way. So I'm missing the top 2 infamy ones.

I'm about 700 mill into the badges, myself. All I have been doing is ITF'ing if it becomes available but not grinding it. My big thing is just exploring content, running every ouro arc I've missed, remember you get double inf for exemplaring down, so start with the low level and work your way back up, if anything it'll give you a refresher course on your character at every possible level. It will also help you feel like your making progress on something if you are a completionist like me.

Marybash during double XP though...

I'm here, too. Earning badges is fun, and I'll do goofy things for them. But farming for the heal or inf. ones isn't. Bleah. As it is, I have a character who has hit the inf. cap several times. I have the badge in my head.

Well my main badger finally managed to get the Leader badge but as a badger I still consider the effort to get that badge "too mind numbingly dull" for the most part.

Years ago as a Controller it was far easier for me to farm in the Storm Palace than in RWZ. I tend to think the RWZ is more the domain of Tanks and Scrappers. But really the only thing that helped get me past the "I'll never get that badge" mindset to the "I might actually be able to get it" mode were the 2x weekends. People seem to be willing to remain super-focused on full teams pretty much every second of those weekends.

I think I earned about 500 million towards Leader during years of normal playing and 'traditional' farming. But I earned the other 1.5 billion towards it over the course of roughly 3 different 2x weekends. To me it was simply far easier to play several marathon weekends than it was to spend multiple months of tedious brain-optional farming.

As far as no badge progress with the MA yeah it kind of sucks that applies to the INF badges as well but I can see why they wouldn't want to make any exceptions like that. *shrugs*

Good luck to you regardless...

If you are a "purist" about not wanting to AFK farm for badges the INF badges should be the ones you'd want to get. Out of all the epic badges the INF badges are the only ones you -can't- get via solo AFK farming.

As someone that is literally days away from getting Leader; I propose that the secret is to just play. If you are logged in try to spend as much of it being productive. I ran just about any TF that I came across, including 9 ITFs in a row one day, just because as I was exiting I would see a broadcast for another.

however:

Holds very true, I know I have earned well over 1/2 if not more across the last 3 2xp weekends as the whole server is just a buzz with an "efficient game play mentality" you will find 7 other people willing to stick together for 4+ hours of solid game play you find other more open to "farming" or "abhorrent" style play to maximize rewards. Last year I ran with several members of an SG that only plays in SG mode on that weekend and they earned enough to support them for the 6 months. and do it w/o losing ground on their personal gains, pretty slick idea if you ask me.

of all the badges the inf badge whould be the least discouraging, as long as you don't dwell on the fact that billions can me made in a few weeks on the market and that doesn't count

I've found that exemping and not being in the same zone as my exemplar earns the most. There are a few mobs that reward better than others (Ritki Comm Offiicers, Rikti Mentalist Lt's, Any variety of Mushroom from the DE group, Devoured Bosses, Longbow in general, Fake Nemesis, Clockwork, Lost Bosses and AV's)

What is your AT?

I fight in the RWZ with my Brute (currently at 1.4 Billion) since there are no hazard zones on the V side. I did the same with my Tank (has Leader). To break up the boredom of Soloing, I would jump on various SFs/TFs if the opportunity arose. I flash back to arcs also that I like to run. Like what was said earlier, Double XP weekends are your biggest bang for your time. On my Brute I was making about 22-24 mil per hour exemping to 47 and fighting groups of 50's in RWZ while my exemplar on my second account sat in the sg base. Hero side people run the first mish of Katie til their eyes bleed for 20-25 mil per hour during double xp.

Bottom line, a lot is dependent on what AT you're playing.

You were going to say "epic", weren't you?

My original plan was this:
1) I had gotten a 2nd account, way before we could buy slots, because I needed more.
2) Make a fire/kin on the 2nd account and get him to 50. (This was a snap without even farming.)
3) Have my badger doorsit while the fire/kin farmed. BOOOOOORRRRRING!

So I just do lots and lots of task forces (which I enjoy tremendously). Last time I checked (a while ago), I was at 1.3something billion on the progress bar. I'd be a lot closer, except I often use other toons for task forces, depending on the team composition.

P.S. I'm already contemplating that "What do I do now?" moment after I get Leader. I can't do anything to get the Day Job or Veteran badges any faster . . .

Thanks to all for the input.

I know I can get it eventually. I have a particular bad habit of liking to level up which overrides my badge OCD. I have 26 lvl 50's but those darn Epic badges are like a thorn in my side.

yeah, badge hunting and alt-itice are often apposing forces... I have a total of 3 lv 50s (1 was lv 50 before badges came out)

Was that first part a typo? you were getting 22-24 mil and hour street sweeping effectively +3s in RWZ I get about 1/10th that non exmped ... anytime I have run exemplared I get a slight boost but nothing on that level. .. if true I must test and kick myself for wasting weeks of not months of time

as far as the first mission of Katie Loops that sounds about right I was remembering it being 5 mill a run at ~14 minutes a run.

Actually from all reports, that 22-24 million per hour is likely accurate for the comm officers. Any guesses why the Rikti Portals lost their XP/Inf drops?

From descriptions what happened was the following.

Step 1: Aggro comm officers
Step 2: Tap the portals for a bit of damage
Step 3: Profit when portals despawned

Seeing the risk/reward get thrown out the window, the developers "fixed" the portal xp/inf. This caused the comm officers to become the AE critter of choice when Issue 14 was released.

Baby, bathwater. I ignore the entire tab since so much of it annoys me. I'll likely get them when I get them, but I've already moved past 500, and 600's impossible for me on a villain due to vet and anniversary badges missing. If it got to a point where it was all I was missing to hit 600, I'd get more into it. Heck, I might even *puke* afk farm a little.

This was only during a double xp weekend, haven't tried it without double xp. And no this wasn't just comm officers, this was just street sweeping level 50 rikti groups in RWZ. Things seem to, I don't know quadruple+ when your exemplar is not in the same zone as you.

I wasn't saying you specifically were doing that, and double xp would indeed help (both portal exploit and general hunting).

I do have a problem with this part of the statement though. You should only be getting slight less than double being exempted, and have that doubled.

Thanks, I'll try exemping down whenever I can, I didn't know you got more influence on that when you were a level 50.

Yup, you get 2x influence/infamy while exemped/malefactored down (NOTE: you do not have to be a 50 to receive this benefit), and during Double XP, you get (2x + 2x) = 4x inf. That's why a group of us on Victory are going to (as mentioned above) run continuous Katie Hannons (1st mission) during this upcoming Double XP Weekend (because you get the exemp 2x bonus for being TF auto-exemped to 34, plus the Double XP 2x bonus).

I think in the end the best advice is what a number of people gave above -- play play play, and have fun! My main toon (also my badge toon) is a Spines/Invul Scrapper that's over 4 years old now, and I still get a kick out of doing any content at all on her.

this is a common misconception. from the wiki:

Note! It is widely believed that an exemplared character gains full normal influence rewards in addition to any extra influence he gets from converted experience. In fact, it's even stated in several player guides, both official and unofficial. This is not true. Playing while exemplared and debt-free will not result in roughly double the usual amount of influence.

wiki under exmplar

what Burnin' up is saying that if you are expmlared, and the other toon is in another zone, the rewards get broken.

[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, I'm aware of what Burnin' Up was talking about (and I'm not really addressing his particular statement regarding "broken" rewards in his scenario). As stated in the wiki, I've ALWAYS been under the impression that influence rewards for an exemped/malefactored toon are increased ("2x" is simply a convenient shortcut...I'd never cared WHAT that bonus might have been), and also as stated in the wiki, I know that I read it explicitly in the CoH manual, shipped with the game software years ago.

I found this statement in the current online CoX "Game Info":

[ QUOTE ]
The amount of debt you acquire varies with your level at the time you are defeated. Becoming an Exemplar or Malefactor to another hero or villain that has a lower level than you accelerates your debt repayment.

[/ QUOTE ]

I'll admit it specifically only addresses being "in debt", but I'm wondering if the accelerated debt repayment doesn't also occur when NOT in debt, in the form of additional influence in some measure. I'm sorry, but a wiki is NOT an official publication, and Paragon Wiki has been known to have inconsistencies and incorrect information, as have most wikis (that said, however, I generally consider Paragon Wiki to be right on the money 99.9999% of the time, so...).

I don't think I'll be satisfied without some hard data, so I guess I have to do a few experiments before (and during) Double XP Weekend. I'm really interested in pursuing whatever course I can to maximize influence earning toward the "Leader" badge (and yes, I'm aware of tactics such as assembling large teams, doing Ouroboros content, running Katie Hannon TFs, etc.).

Thanks for pointing this out to me, Chuque.
