Am I the only one confused by i16...
Positron doesn't like players using Exploits.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.
Black Pebble is my new hero.
Exploitive farming... he doesn't like exploitive farming. I look at this move as simply extending an olive branch and in a roundabout way saying, "You can go this far."
If it cuts down on the amount of tells asking for fillers then I'll consider it a success.
I should clarify, I'm neither for or against this change, I'm just confused. They ban people for abusiveness in MA and then turn around and do this... it's very strange, even if this change doesn't technically allow exploits. It definitely allows players of some of the higher order powersets to maximize their reward or accelerate the xp gains of their /sk'd friends. I certainly hope we don't see another round of... oversight... after this change goes in.
The devs have a fundamental disconnect when people play the game in ways that they did not intend.
The further away you go from their vision the more you see the devs' faces screw up, until baninations occur. Lately it seems like instead of just fixing things they would prefer to fix the players instead.
what pum said, they don't like the unexpected.

It will effectively eliminate 90% of the broadcasts and tells for fillers. That alone makes it worth it, in many players' eyes. While I was usually very careful about who and where I sent tells asking for fillers (and almost never used broadcast), I won't have to do that anymore.
We also don't know whether 1) these new difficulty settings will work in MA missions, or 2) if the drop rates will scale to the number of virtual teammates. However, if the drop rates act like they do in a padded mission currently (1 person getting all the drops their teammates would be getting) this change might serve to alleviate the rising prices of purples.

As I mentioned in the official thread:

Enhanced Difficulty Options - Players can now fine-tune their difficulty levels by telling the game exactly how they want to be treated. They can choose to be regarded as a specific size team (even if they are soloing), and even have control over the level they are detected to be when it comes to the dynamic spawn system. So if you ever wanted to see if your Scrapper could take on a map that is populated for an 8 person team, four levels higher than your own, now you can! The difficulty settings of the mission owner dictate how the mission is handled, just as before, and you can change your difficulty settings at any Hero Corp.'s Representative in Paragon City or Fateweaver in the Rogue Isles.
[/ QUOTE ]
I wonder if this wil only apply to NON-MA missions. If so, I can see a large percentage of farmers going back to Dev-Created missions for their farming needs for a chance at purple drops and no need to pad. In one fell swoop they could satisfy story tellers and farmers.
[/ QUOTE ]
If they limit the team-size adjustment to only dev-created missions they might just entice farmers and PLs away from MA and back to PI and Grandville. Both farmers and anti-farmers might see this as a good thing.

This would also help to promote MA for its intended use: as a median for players to express their creative storytelling, rather than a place for farmers to get high ratings.

I'm a bit confused by your comment in the last paragraph Pum. Are you objecting to their efforts to implement this?
This appears to me to be recognition of the way some people like to play which some other players have indicated irritates them due to unwanted tells/invites. It also appears to be an accomodation which should please both sides. To me it looks like an attempt to lessen the disconnect.
So a) what should they be fixing instead & b) how is this "fixing the players?"
The other way I can see interpreting the comment is that you figure they're going to goof up the implementation somehow & then players are going to suffer for it as the dev team tries to fix problems that seem, to them, to be adversely affecting a significant portion of their player-base?

Ah, I hadn't thought about the potential effects on the market. That could end up being a double edged sword though. Regardless, it'll be interesting to see what, if any, fallout occurs from this. I really hope it does end up being a "good for both sides" change... but I'm too cynical I guess to really believe that will happen.

I wasn't commenting on the OP's point but responding to dark's question.
The scaling is nice but I really would like better QoL fixes that affect everyone and not just farmers vs non farmers.
Fill tells really did fall off with AE since you only need 1 extra account to pad (perma), so setting the size of the team wasn't that big of a deal.
Wait a couple weeks after i16 hits and watch the Nerf Bat swing.
Every single time they've hooked us up there was a nerf around the corner.

We don't have gold, here, Just so ya know.
And I think its a good move. It allows farmers to do what they want without having to spam filler announcements. It also satisfies those who crave a bigger challenge. And it allows us "soloists" to get what we want out of the game. There is no down side that I can see right now.

[censored], I do need some gold for my LOTG: +Def/+7.5% Rech. NCSoft needs to hook me up with those gold sales.
I think the most interesting bit here, is that we will be able to set the level of the mission, say, one level under ourselves .. and then as a 8 players.
That way you would get large amounts of blue con minios/ltds in a standard mission .... perfect for a Fireblaster with Firebreath / Fireball .... the exp would come FAST, due to the enourmous amount of defeated enemies, even if they are lower levels.
That's how my blaster used to level in Hazard zones .... though that was with an assault rifle / devices blaster ..

This'll be another of those cases where they release something highly exploitable, then when it's exploited there'll be wailing and gnashing over at Paragon Studios, bemoaning what evil people their subscribers are. Shortly thereafter there'll be another Sermon from the Mount about how we're to play the game, thereon the heels of which will be bannings and suspensions of players who did nothing more than play the game within the confines of the implementation.
Players will enter missions, kill bad guys to get experience and influence, and they'll be disciplined for doing so.
I'm jaded and cynical, but at the same time it's nothing I haven't actually witnessed.

I think for the most part Paragon Studios is satisfied with the risk/reward ratio that is present in their "normal game" content. Will there be tweaks? Yeah, probably, but not to the extent of "oh noes teh ebil farmers broke teh game!1!!1"
I'm just glad they decided to spruce up the "old ball and chain" that is the normal content rather than stuffing the "hot new item" full of Twinkies until neither looked palatable. Now I'm hungry for some reason...

This is actually kind of what I expect to happen. The fact that it's occuring so quickly on the heels of the MA incident is bewildering. And since it was apparently pohsyb that suggested this feature, I'm wondering if he's been confined to his box too much over the last few months.
