AE (for PLing) attracts all the new players and sucks them in. they burn through levels 20X faster than any other player. they in return get burned out. now two things happen at this point. some will say hmm wonder what the other parts of this massive game are like and will actually play the game. but all the greedy non team oriented players will disappear out of boredom. which means we wont have to deal with them later on a STF or LRSF.

the other thing to consider is how AE affects everyone rather they use it it any capacity or not. people have been leaving since its launch. CoH is loosing its hardcore dependable player base at an alarming rate. sure the new players bring in revenue but most of it im sure is temporary and they are bound to get burned out and leave. but loosing the veterans is really bad for business. they are the ones who help bring in consistent revenue. consistent revenue is what keeps all businesses flowing.

This reminds me of the same argument from an anti-farmer/PL'er in a global channel I'm in who loves to point out those scenarios repeatedly as if they were absolute.

The fact of the matter is, no one's keeping track of the ratio of recently inactive farmers/PL'ers versus those who are still playing on a regular basis to draw a conclusion like this. If any of the officials are then clearly we're not in the know either way. I don't know where you get the "20X faster" from since it looks like it's some random statistic pulled from the air somewhere.

The same applies for the claim that the game is losing its veteran players at a steady rate. It can only speculated, and the conclusion should not come from just reading several goodbye posts by vets or ingame disappearances for example.

Like what was said earlier, if its just an opinion then represent it as an opinion.

the gall to call you uptight? umm yea i guess... not really sure what a gall is but yea i can go with that.

look obviously you are becoming a little obsessed with this thread and honestly i don't know why. at this point you just amuse me to no end. sorry but i just don't take this stuff seriously like you do.

my opinions are based on what i have seen. i play on liberty. not the most populated server but it was always steady and with lots of really solid people. the kind that like to play for fun not turn it into a substitute for real life. anyway it used to be pretty easy to find a team or a TF or whatever. almost every zone had toons zippin all over. now its like a ghost town. my friends list which was comprised of dozens of solid long standing veterans that were always around is now reduced to a long grey list with a green name now and then.

sure theres still stuff going on but no where near the scale it was before AE.

the 20x times faster comment obviously isnt some exact science. but when i see someone claim they rolled a 50 in 6 hours then yea id say thats pretty damn fast. actually sounds faster than 20 times but i suck at math so yea.

and this post of course is entirely based on opinion.

im not anti AE (think i might have stated that but maybe i didnt) i just think its abuse should be managed a little better.

so that should give you all you need right there right? so you wanna hug it out? or just allow ourselves to have differences of opinion and move on?

Issue 13 harmed the game much more than AE has.

Guys... if anyone needs a quick reminder, unless you're on the NCSoft/Paragon Studios payroll lists, any statement you make about how certain game development direction has influenced the game is strictly confined to your personal experience and as such, cannot be taken as a true statement about the state of the game regarding the quantity and quality of the playerbase.

If on the other hand, you are on the NCSoft/Paragon Studios payroll lists, please attach some real numbers and facts to your statements.

OK, thanks... bye!

Oh, now this is interesting.

Difference of opinion about what? About what MA is doing to the game?

You do realize I haven't given an opinion on that, right?

Frankly, I think it's too early to say. I don't know which way it's going to go. I am, however, concerned.

Which is why when someone says, 'vets are leaving at an alarming rate', I'm interested to know where that's coming from.

See what happens when you try to read between the lines?

sorry i cant give it a break its how i am. i enjoy conversation of almost any nature but when it gets to the point ridiculousness beyond the scope of reason i tend to just try and make it fun for my own amusement. hopefully thats all over and we can get to an actual discussion about what the op asked.

i had realized you havent stated your opinion. part of the reason the thread amused me. kinda like a bad mystery novel... not that i read or anything.

but in all sincerity what concerns you about AE? we seem like we might be on the same side of the fence here but just project our concern differently.

to the OP well bud im sorry. wasent my intention to have the thread derailed. hopefully we can get this puppy back on its track. CHOO! CHOO!

I sometimes actually liked doing Scanner/Paper missions, especially in PuGs!

[/ QUOTE ]

I never did. For every good pug I ever tried I can remember at least 2 failing miserably due to a variety of factors such as noobish teammates who knew nothing and tried to tell you they did, to people unwilling to have the star attached to their name, ro just being morons. Not to mention, papers were just an inefficient farm m ap. it gets really boring on the 4th or 5th freakshow mission. ;/

This coming from the guy who got 'ridiculous beyond the scope of reason' right out of the gate?

Okeedokee.

Do me a favor? Don't invoke reason unless you plan to actually employ it.

but in all sincerity what concerns you about AE?

[/ QUOTE ]

I think the same thing that concerns a lot of other people: that a fairly rushed/poor implementation is going to end up undermining its purpose and possibly damage the game as a whole.

The environment has been radically altered by the introduction. That's pretty plain to see. But I think it's still all in a transitional period right now. Whether or not it settles down for the better or for the worse remains to be seen.

But I'm not all that confident it's going to be for the better. Hence my concern.

Believe me, I've seen and been in those PuGs and the thing about this game is that at least for me, the failure is just as fun as the success, or else why even bother playing the game at all?? Now, granted, if a team fails miserably time and again, the failures have to be truly epic and so funny that I'd stay with the PuG for the comedy-value alone, but that usually doesn't happen anymore... it seems to me people are just taking the "farming game" way too seriously these days...

See what I mean about people taking the farming game way too seriously?

And Freakshows getting boring?! How can you say that they're so hilarious! especially when they insist on rezzing right before you only to be hit again... they're like the Evil Clowns NPC's of CoX!

pretty much how i feel. the devs are kinda doing something by discouraging the mega farms and im sure they have more plans to try and rectify the situation. but the past is always doomed to repeat itself and im afraid they will get heavy handed like they did with issues in the past like pvp.

i read somewhere that another mmo had implemented a mission creator that lead to the end of the game. they didnt state which game it was but if thats true then that might be a descent guide on how not to handle the situation.

wow just saw something surprising and awesome. went to atlas and for the first time in a long while i actually saw a congregation of people under the atlas statue. saw frantic messaging about STF runs forming and masters forming and kraken teams. out of curiosity i went into AE and there was just a few players. glad to see a little light in this tunnel we are in. makes me feel all squishy inside

Actually, no, it doesn't. I've been on Infinity for hours at a time every day since I becamer unemployed (months now), and it's RARE to see groups under Atlas. You do see a few people at Ms. Liberty periodically (leveling up, no doubt).

In four hours today, as an example, only one person stood under Atlas for more than 2 seconds. ME.

(In case you're wondering why I was there for a long period like that doing nothing, I was housecleaning while logged on)

who cares about Atlas?

Atlas has always been a pigsty of horrible teams and bad players.

I find as a general rule, 9/10 teams formed out of broadcast are more likely to give me debt than give me anything resembling fun.

We're like twins or something.

I only ever make new characters that go to Atlas when I'm teaming with someone who wants to. Otherwise, it's Galaxy all the way and has been since frickin' 2004.
