same thing happened to me a while back. was a leading member of the Damaged Heroes (we are coalitioned with Law Bringers or were anyway). we all took a little break for a few months. i came back and it was a ghost town. there are only a few left. often times i feel like a solo SG. but its ok because i solo a lot anyway and we have nice coalition SGs to get my team fix and LBx to boot.
-
lol that wasent subtle at all. yea i was not thinking the devs would be in on it. it would be a player organized event. a lot of tourneys im talking about used a paypal system with the promoter having the purse in his account and would transfer it to your teams account at the end.
-
something smells fishy about your post taxi...
-
are tournaments of the PVP variety for real money allowed? i used to compete in amateur tournaments for FPS games and some were for money and legit prizes like graphics cards and what not. although my team never won it was always more exciting when something real was on the line. was wondering if this was allowed here. id get my rear handed to me for sure but money always attracts people.
was thinking it might be interesting to start with a dollar tourney where everyone sports up a buck to enter and the victor gets the pot. -
do what taxi said and late welcome to the game and to liberty.
-
well it doesn't on liberty. well not like it used to anyway. im tempted to step outta liberty but im so friggen loyal its ridiculous.

but Posi did say that the devs will no longer be writing story arcs. That does sound like passing the buck to us.
[/ QUOTE ]
that cant be true. its a LIE! *puts fingers in his ears* LA LA LA LA LA LA I cant hear you! LA LA LA -

Make it ice cream instead of koolaid and you're on! What do you have on the redside so far?
[/ QUOTE ]
aint got much so far.
50 mercs/traps which i kinda hate (just not my style)

and a a few lowbies who havent taken off yet.
check your message box -
wow just saw something surprising and awesome. went to atlas and for the first time in a long while i actually saw a congregation of people under the atlas statue. saw frantic messaging about STF runs forming and masters forming and kraken teams. out of curiosity i went into AE and there was just a few players. glad to see a little light in this tunnel we are in. makes me feel all squishy inside

I've heard the hero side one is worse, although that's hard to imagine. I'm not inclined to do either one at this point.
[/ QUOTE ]
well i can say the exact opposite. ive only played the hero side and cant imagine the red side being worse lol. that TF brought absolutely nothing new to the table in any way.
i really hope everyones thought about the MA just being the devs way of passing off the buck to us is completely wrong. it feels true though i have to admit. -
umm im a 30 month vet who really never touched red side till now. i got a lot of learning to do. if your ever up for doing oddball mishes or tasks (TFs no one likes but you or GMs or whatever) im down. im the guy on hero side who thinks the sewer trial is one of the best arcs ever lol.
so while we wait for new content you could rehash your favorite content with me. i could use the help finding the good stuff red side. i can bring cupcakes and koolaid! -

But I'm not all that confident it's going to be for the better. Hence my concern.
[/ QUOTE ]
pretty much how i feel. the devs are kinda doing something by discouraging the mega farms and im sure they have more plans to try and rectify the situation. but the past is always doomed to repeat itself and im afraid they will get heavy handed like they did with issues in the past like pvp.
i read somewhere that another mmo had implemented a mission creator that lead to the end of the game. they didnt state which game it was but if thats true then that might be a descent guide on how not to handle the situation. -
PB for me. honestly from day one of my PB almost 3 years ago i felt it was tailor made for my playstyle. i like to solo. my favorite toons were blasters and tanks. all of my toons do extremely well solo as does the PB. and i prefer consistent dependable power output that dosent revolve around how many baddies are around me.
my PB is my main and still the most played toon i have. hes kinda spoiled it for the rest of the ATs. even my crab. -

I havent found the Kheldian arcs that gripping.
[/ QUOTE ]
i honestly didnt either but i felt obligated to run them. but in the end it was fun to see how everything was gonna pan out. -

Give it a break, chuckles.
[/ QUOTE ]
sorry i cant give it a break its how i am. i enjoy conversation of almost any nature but when it gets to the point ridiculousness beyond the scope of reason i tend to just try and make it fun for my own amusement. hopefully thats all over and we can get to an actual discussion about what the op asked.
[ QUOTE ]
You do realize I haven't given an opinion on that, right?
Frankly, I think it's too early to say. I don't know which way it's going to go. I am, however, concerned.
[/ QUOTE ]
i had realized you havent stated your opinion. part of the reason the thread amused me. kinda like a bad mystery novel... not that i read or anything.
but in all sincerity what concerns you about AE? we seem like we might be on the same side of the fence here but just project our concern differently.
to the OP well bud im sorry. wasent my intention to have the thread derailed. hopefully we can get this puppy back on its track. CHOO! CHOO! -
[ QUOTE ]
Issue 13 harmed the game much more than AE has.
[/ QUOTE ]
maybe so. i took a break shortly after i13 and returned for i14. -
the gall to call you uptight? umm yea i guess... not really sure what a gall is but yea i can go with that.
look obviously you are becoming a little obsessed with this thread and honestly i don't know why. at this point you just amuse me to no end. sorry but i just don't take this stuff seriously like you do.
my opinions are based on what i have seen. i play on liberty. not the most populated server but it was always steady and with lots of really solid people. the kind that like to play for fun not turn it into a substitute for real life. anyway it used to be pretty easy to find a team or a TF or whatever. almost every zone had toons zippin all over. now its like a ghost town. my friends list which was comprised of dozens of solid long standing veterans that were always around is now reduced to a long grey list with a green name now and then.
sure theres still stuff going on but no where near the scale it was before AE.
the 20x times faster comment obviously isnt some exact science. but when i see someone claim they rolled a 50 in 6 hours then yea id say thats pretty damn fast. actually sounds faster than 20 times but i suck at math so yea.
and this post of course is entirely based on opinion.
im not anti AE (think i might have stated that but maybe i didnt) i just think its abuse should be managed a little better.
so that should give you all you need right there right? so you wanna hug it out? or just allow ourselves to have differences of opinion and move on? -

Oh, grow up. Really.

aww but i wanna be a toys r us kid
remember Hydrophidian Jefferey the Giraffe still loves you even when your a little uptight -
seriously people you guys are blowing this out of proportion. who gives a hell if i made a post based on observation and opinions but didn't say "this is my opinion"? get a grip guys this is an online video game forum. this is a far cry from actual life.
im not a public speaker and never will be. i also lack any desire whatsoever to become a public speaker. so why should i be so involved in learning all the little nuances? i am a photographer first and a graphic artist next. i don't expect anyone outside of my profession to understand great photography or design nor do i wish to tell them that their snapshots of their child's 5th birthday have absolutely no thought about composition or frame.
I apologize for misunderstanding the point of these forums. i was under the impression it was a place to come and discuss the game. i stand corrected. it seems (just my opinion... not based on facts at all) that this is a place where you can discuss the game so long as you have facts to back up everything you say and opinions are not wanted. sorry it wont happen again. -
yea pretty much. thats why i stopped using the forums all together. guess ill just go back to doing that.
-
[ QUOTE ]
I love how you spout all this BS without a single fact to prove any of it.
[/ QUOTE ]
well sir i do apologize for having an opinion. if the forums allowed me to edit my post at this point id gladly like to put up a warning. something along the lines of
"warning: this is all opinion. some people cant grasp the idea that not all conversations revolve around cold hard facts. so take notice this is opinion".
but hey thanks for turning another post into a flame war. -
you cant please everyone. its virtually impossible on this kind of scale. the game is changing. its no longer what it was a couple of years ago thats for sure. but as in life everything changes. some people embrace it others do not.
Im not a fan of AE (the PLing side of it) but if the majority embraces PLing and thats where the game goes then thats fine. i had my fun. i dont own this game nor do i have the right to tell others how to play. so fair is fair in my eyes. -
your question obviously has no correct answer but i have come to appreciate AE. Now im not a PL type player. Im one who enjoys the journey and once you've reached the destination of 50 in this game you realize there isnt any end game content.
AE does two things for the game one good for the veterans who choose to play the old fashioned way and one that will put a serious hurt on the game as a whole forcing either a shutdown of the game or a complete rethink of what CoH is.
AE (for PLing) attracts all the new players and sucks them in. they burn through levels 20X faster than any other player. they in return get burned out. now two things happen at this point. some will say hmm wonder what the other parts of this massive game are like and will actually play the game. but all the greedy non team oriented players will disappear out of boredom. which means we wont have to deal with them later on a STF or LRSF.
the other thing to consider is how AE affects everyone rather they use it it any capacity or not. people have been leaving since its launch. CoH is loosing its hardcore dependable player base at an alarming rate. sure the new players bring in revenue but most of it im sure is temporary and they are bound to get burned out and leave. but loosing the veterans is really bad for business. they are the ones who help bring in consistent revenue. consistent revenue is what keeps all businesses flowing.
