WIndows 7 260SLI problems
[ QUOTE ]
So I have a fresh install of win7 64 bit build 7100. I have two 260 GTX's in sli on an asus p6t with a corsair HX850 PSU.
I can run TF2, COD, L4D no problems in sli. COH, not so much. It starts but takes a really long time to get to the log in screen. I can long in, select a server, select a toon and the loading screen launches, the load bar however, crawls an after a few minutes of waiting..it kicks me back to the log in screen. I have tried to reinstall, I have tried a fresh install, I have tried to move it from a known good installation of COH on another Win 7 box. I have rolled back the Nvidia drivers to 185.81 and still no luck.
Am I missing something? Is there something I need to do to turn on sli or make it work with coh?
[/ QUOTE ]SLI isnt supported for CoH.

I know it is not supported but it worked before i had to reinstall my win 7 (was beta to move to rc1 I had to re-install). I know there are people who have sli running and coh.
Actually, according to Nvidia's site coh supports SLI.

Are you getting an error message? If you are getting could not connect error maybe you are having some ports blocked.
A listing of the ports needed.
Have you looked at Zloth's ++ Common Solutions & Posting Guidelines ++ yet?

no error just kicked back to log in and if I try to log in again it tells me my toon is already logged in to the game. I have the windows firewall turned off and using the same connection on a differet box i can get right in.
ATI since cat 5.3 has had full opengl 2.0 support but between the two I would argue nvidia has much better performance and support (can we still not turn on water effects with ati/) -meh I am not really going to argue it anyway...since your partially right about drivers
I'm having the EXACT same problem running an ATI Radeon 4850 (under Windows 7 RC).
- Takes forever to show login screen
- attempting to zone in after selecting a character gives a loading bar that, literally, will take almost an hour to finish
This is not SLI or nVidia related, as I have neither.
Seems its best to have stuff a couple years old to play CoH...

I also have the same problem, and I'm running a GeForce 7600 GT
Works fine in my XP boot, totally takes half an hour to load the game in Win7.
I've SOLVED this issue on my system by doing the following:
1. I added " -renderthread 1" to the launcher shortcut.
2. I REMOVED compatability mode, running the program as normal.
After that, it worked normally! Near as I can figure, this has nothing to do with videocards, and has something to do with certain CPUs in Windows7. I'm running an Intel Core2Duo E6600.
Oh... good one. Means the dual cpu detect isn't working with Win7, looks like...

I'm pretty sure I had renderthread already on my shortcut, but I'll check the compatibility mode when I boot tomorrow.

turning OFF compatibility mode indeed fixed my problem, and I'm now able to run CoH under Win7. Huzzah!
crap and I just wiped my hard drive.
SO, is there a step-by-step guide for Windows 7 Users?

Why would there be a step by step guide for a Beta OS? Anything is likely to be changed by the time the release version is available.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.
Black Pebble is my new hero.
So a W7 user is screwed. Thanks.

screwed? lol, its a BETA OS! To expect ANY software to work perfectly on it is ludicrous. You must not have read the large warning when you downloaded it detailing the rather likely possibility that some or even most of your software may not work on it.
Pretty much the same reason to *NOT* buy a first year run of any car... there are always bugs the manufacturer has to work out, and by the second year, mostly, that's done.
It's also the reason I don't bother with the new software like Win7 until there's been a Service Pack 1 issued. Until then, it's not finished.
(Dating myself, yay. ) I remember when a version of DOS came out, and everyone rushed to get it. Back then, we were lemmings. Heh. Immediately, people started losing data afterwards. It was horrible. And then they figured out that the whole SpeedDisk setting to not write to the hard drive until the computer was idle or the buffer was full, while lightning fast for 'closing' things, didn't really work all that well on the 286s and such of the world.
An immediate workaround was issued (change it to cache reads, not writes) and the next version this was the norm instead for SpeedDisk.
So when you say you're screwed... yes, in fact, if you use any operating system nowadays before service packs are issues, you are likely to have something go wrong, not be supported, not work right, etc. Especially for Co* use, that's so low on the totem pole as to be non-existent in the Microsoft world.
But it sure is pretty isn't it?
/Guessing. Don't have it installed myself. Not really in any hurry to use it.

It is not beta it is RC - as in release candidate, it is going gold later this month which pretty much is exactly the same as the RC build.
Bah. Pulled out my shiny XP disk and went back home. I'm going to skip the Vista Era if I can help it.

I'm a Win7 user and I've been quite happily playing since I flipped the compatibility off. In fact, I had 3 windows up last night to do some transfers, so not only does it work as well as it does in XP, it still allows me to multibox as well as I could in XP.

Beta is the new Alpha.
Release Candidate is the new Beta.
The purpose of releasing a RC to the public is to generate complaints, find configurations that aren't working and find software that's breaking. Microsoft then uses these complaints to find problems that they may not have previously found through internal and 3rd party developer and manufacturer testing.
What most people were able to download legitimately from Microsoft is now a very old RC. There has been numerous changes to Win 7 since then, the vast majority of these have not been made available to the general public but are only available to 3rd party software developers enrolled in Microsoft's Win 7 development program.
The current build, made last week (the 10th I think) and still isn't the RTM (Release To Manufacturing) version, was 7600.
