CD Rom from heck!
I'd just download the game, after 2 years there's gonna be so much new stuff to download and patch that your CD doesn't have that you probably won't save much time on the install.
Issue 16 made me feel like this.

*sigh*
But it's so shiny and hard copy-esque!
And what if this should continue to happen with my game discs when I don't have the luxury of downloading a client online?
You're gonna have to download stuff to your computer disc or no disc, it's just a matter of how much. I'm hard-pressed to think of a situation where you can't do the pure download install but partially installing it with the disc and downloading the rest would be A-OK. You could keep around a copy of CohUpdater.exe, it's the only file that you really need to install the game, and it's a small enough file to fit on an old 3.5" floppy.

You could always buy a new copy of the game. If you buy the Architect Edition, you get one free month (value $15) and a free 'booster pack' (value $10). It will cost you about $20.

It could be your optical drive failing, but the first thing to try is just cleaning it. Blow some canned air in there, maybe try a Q-tip to clean the lens. Just take a quick look here.
If the drive starts having problems with other disks you'll just have to replace the drive.

This.
Very, very much this.
You will also avoid having to download such a huge amount of updates, as it will be current up to I14.
How can all that not be worth $20?

Anyone know what's the FTP site for the full download?
Not one. You can download the Updater, which will then download all of the updates.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

And you get that by logging in to your NCsoft account and going to Account Management.
Also, if you are worried about the future and has to have hard copy and shiny then go ahead and burn a DVD of the full and complete install directory. CoX will auto "install"(IE: throw in necessary registry hooks) and run in seconds if you have an up to date backup like this.

Well... yeah, you could, but it'll just send you here anyway:
ftp://client.coh.com/US/
More to the point, here (Direct download):
ftp://client.coh.com/US/CohUpdater.exe
Just in case that helps anyone out... Laters.

The solution to using your CD is rather easy. When you insert the CD, cancel any automatic popups (unless it happens to be CoH). Then open up My Computer, right-hand click on your CD drive (usually D: or E:, but not always) and choose Explore. This will show you all the files and folders in the root of the CD. There should be one that says Setup(or Install), CityOfHeroes, or CohLoader. Double-click on it, and it should take you through installing City of Heroes.
Wait, hang on, I got all tripped up by the 'how to avoid the DVD' thing...
Catch, does it do this to *all* CDs/DVDs? Or just this one?
If it does it to just this one... then the DVD is bad. If it does it to all, it's the drive... or a configuration issue with Windows.
Which reminds me... it's a DVD, not a CD... unless it's really old, in which case, I'd just do the download thing, because there's *nothing* you're going to save by installing that crusty nastiness.
A DVD version *may* solve a few MBs of download needs, but only if it's the AE version as mentioned above, otherwise, you're stuck with basically starting over even if you installed it. So why bother with the install, I say.
In any case, once you did get it installed, if you have a burner or a 4GB memory stick, making a copy of the installed Co* would help out somewhat for next time... as long as you kept updating/burning again major issue releases.

Hello hello, first and foremost, a little greeting. I'm brand new to the forums here but have been playing CoH/CoV on and off for about 2 years. I apologize for finally utilizing the forums specifically to get help with a problem, I promise to become a contributing member.
Alright: I've had to load CoH onto my computer a few times as I sometimes deactive my account for one reason or another. This time, however, my CD Rom won't recognize the disc as a game disc, but rather an Audio CD. Any help?
I realize this is more of a general computer tech question than specifically a CoH question. I searched google for a solution and also flipped through a few pages of this forum to see if it had been addressed. I can only assume it's a fairly simple solution that I just can't figure out.
I understand the client is available for download from the site, should all else fail, I suppose that's where I'll go.
Thank you for your time.
