Total Dominator noob...tell me about Fire/Elec

So, I decided to roll a Fire/Elec tonight. Is the combo any good? Only have one controller, and he is Plant/Storm so I'm not really familiar with the Fire primary.. ((Besides that I know I want Hot Feet and Fire Imps))

I'm not really sure what powers in either the primary or secondary are worth taking and which I should skip. I've heard Bonfire is an annoying power, but besides that I'm in the dark.

So what should I expect with a Fire/Elec?

[/ QUOTE ]Yep. Your secondary and primary both want you to be in melee. Your primary has a few good, solid workhorse controls that work from spawn to spawn, and all your animations are pretty quick.

What you should expect is lots of fiery burny electrical death. Do you like teaming or soloing a lot? Do you have any future fantasies of PVP or farming?

As far as powers from Fire that I advocate skipping, I jump Ring of Fire, Smoke, and Cinders, seeing all as superfluous. Bonfire is not super-useful unless you like playing games with the walls and corners, and placing things to blockage enemy ambushes. It's useful, but it's certainly not a big deal to have or not have it.

I'm a big fan of teaming. I wouldn't mine having this guy be good at farms but its not necessary. I do AE a lot though. (I'm a lazy [censored]) Don't really care about PvP.

Main downside for AE would be your AoE is a ranged cone, but hotfeet is melee. In normal teams that's less of an issue since you can use the cone then jump into melee, but stuff on AE lasts longer. If you're really lazy that might bother you, since it means you'd have to move more to get the most out of your AoE attacks.

Ring of Fire can be useful against EBs and AVs.

And Cinders *can* be useful if you've got open slots. Fire/* usually does. "Don't skip" powers: Char, Hot Feet, Fire Imps, Flashfire, Fire Cages*, the */Elec punches, Static Discharge, Thunder Strike.

* You could probably swap this for Ring of Fire and get away with it, but Fire Cages would be more effective on teams.

You don't have to though. I used the melee attacks for a while but once I had Fire Imps and Hot Feet and was in my 30s, I dropped all the punches and I only use Charged Bolt, Lightning Bolt, and Static Discharge. I only use Hot Feet as a buffer, really.

Now, I'll grant you, my damage is below someone using the punches, but you dont have to be in melee to rock the bad guys.

That said, I plan to have all the punches in there again before the build is done, but the punches I prefer to be more along the lines of "it got close, guess I'll punch it" instead of "man, I took mainly the punches, guess I'll have to run in."

Anyway, its a fun combo so far. I think I'm level 34 on mine. Or 35.

I'll also add that it's very useful against mezz resistant enemies. Some Lost, Huntsmen, Fortunatas, etc.

Yeah. I mean, I have it and I like it, but I don't want to break it out in teams because the animation is long (is it long? It feels long) and the effect isn't easily dealt with.

Depends on where you throw it.

Coddle incompetent teammates and you become part of the problem. :P

I could be wrong...but I thought Fire Cages does -KB? It says it does in CoD at least, though I've actually never tested lol. IF so, wouldn't that mean that you could FireCage a group of mobs...and then throw down BonFire for some pretty dang decent "aoe" damage?

I've found keeping the two things layered isn't worth it though. I didn't find Bonfire all that good for damage.

[/ QUOTE ]

True, by the time Bonfire can get it's "full" aoe damage affect in, you should have already killed the spawn anyways heh.

Using bonfire for damage is like using caltrops/thorntrops for damage. In fact it is almost exactly like it except BF has a bigger area, way longer cast and needs constant attention with layering firecages so no one gets blown out of it.

But in terms of damage they are the same.

Now if bonefire did knockdown+afraid it would be a lot more like the bonfire's I've seen in my younger days at bush parties, assuming of course it also had the power to make all the mobs venturing near it drunk.
