AE- I'm very sad

Except this isnt how the game is at all. MOST of the community is playing other stuff than the AE. They just arent standing around in town zones screaming in broadcast for pugs. the pugs are in the AE. the rest of us are gladly doing whatever we please.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is what I do. Well, ignoring for a moment the fact that I nearly never join pugs any more, if I wanted to, I'd join them from server global channels I hang out it.
There is one possible problem here, though. A new player has no way to learn about those channels except from other players. New players almost certainly start using /req and /b to find teammates, because those features are obvious and in the manual. (Geez, did they update the manual at all for the AE edition box?) If they don't meet a more veteran player or a "newbie in the know", they won't find out about these alternate (and IMO better) ways to find a team doing other things.
[/ QUOTE ]
I've been making visits to the AE in Atlas periodically letting new players know about our global channels on Triumph. Some join and use it, others don't.
Veterans who care for the game and community should be doing this on their home servers. It won't help or interest every new player, but it will help some.

I've got to totally agree with the OP. AE has most definitely CHANGED the game very significantly - and, in my opinion, not in a way that I like. I've been playing off-and-on since Issue 2, and I'm not sure how much more I'll be playing. Its markedly clear to me that non-AE teaming is a fraction of what I've experienced in the past. Although TF/SF and Trial teams can be found, I haven't been on a PuG doing story arc missions at all since AE came out - not a single one. Also, when I have been on teams, the overall quality of players was noticeably lesser. (I'm fine with the learning curve that players have though, so that's not really a complaint, more of an observation.)
I have several toons on several servers. Most of the SG's I've been part of have very few regulars any more. Many of them just don't play as much any more. Or, at least, they're not playing their toons that are in my SG's or the ones that I used to team with regularly. Hehe, maybe they "drank the Kool-Aid" and have been PL'ing new toons in AE.
COH is still on my radar though. I still play (less often), and still hope that some of the next issues will provide some content and features that will make it better for players like me. For those that really like AE, that's great! Like I said though, AE has really CHANGED CoH a lot - a whole lot!

I've tried not to comment on the farm/AE business overmuch, but I think I'll do so now.
The AE has tremendous potential. I have written several arcs (and will continue to do so) that I think are pretty neat because they tell actual stories. However, they rarely get played. I've tried broadcasting for a team with the caveat that it's not to farm, and no one ever joins. I've tried selecting people, but 90% of them refuse, or are already on a team, usually a farm.
The AE system has spawned the farming craze. My god, there were recently missions in which the foes DON'T even fight back (mitochondria, anyone?)! Anyone who thinks this hsan't affected the rest of the game is deluding themselves.
It IS harder to get teams together. It's still possible, but it's much more difficult. Having 70 people standing around in the AE building in Atlas DOES cause serious lag.
I don't know what the solution is, but it seems pretty darn obvious to me that there is a problem, and anyone who can't see it is blind.

Did you notice the part of my other post that I've highlighted for you? Finding groups IS harder than it used to be. BUILDING groups IS harder than it used to be. You can argue about the reason for this, but it seems pretty obvious it's because the AE has taken people out of the regular game.
[ QUOTE ]
That's all fine though if there's more farmer players, then NCsoft gets their fees and makes there money. Losing a few wackos that don't like that type of play so much won't hit their bottom line.
[/ QUOTE ]
AE farming makes Progress Quest look like a deep, rich, and well-thought out, emotionally moving game experience.
I'm with you. More power to NCSoft if it keeps their bottom line from shrinking as the years tick by, but NCSoft, [u]Please, please add a better way for people to get pick up groups going for non-AE missions![u]
Or course, the other solution is to ban XP from any AE mission (barring the handful that have been blessed as an official addition and is accessible from the outside world.)
On the one hand, a lot of people might not play who otherwise would. On the other hand, it'll lift many people from the crack of the little level joy boost every half hour.
Perhaps just a small amount of XP, such that "real world" edged it out by, say, 10%. Then people would do AE because they're fun -- as adventures -- rather than as fun because they make you go ding every 20 minutes.
Or how about make them not repeatable more than 1 or 2 times, per character, for 24 hours with XP. That would be a short term solution, though, as the giant green breasts caves would just multiply to fill the daily demand.

Aside from the problem you already stated, this would have bitten me in the can more than once as I never test anything before republishing since if I'm going to play through an arc, I'm going to get rewards for it. So when playing my own arc, tweaking it, playing through it again, tweaking it again, etc I would be punished.
Another bad idea to fix a "problem" that I'm not seeing.

It also doesn't help that Issue 15 is lackluster and most players are on the WAIT UNTIL GOING ROGUE RELEASES mode.

I have to agree. I can stand in Atlas AE and shout starting new AE (team/farm/gonna shoot you while duck hunting team) and boom, people everywhere are looking to join or no one is looking to join. But if I try and build a regular content team it takes longer and usually have to run with 5 or 6. And when people ask where is Talos/Bricks/Croatoa/so one, it's hard to stay focused and chipper when the reply is what's the GL? Sometimes it seems that most vets have left this game. A lot of people I know have left. People who would play during almost all of their free time I hardly see online in my global now. It gives one the impression this game is now full of noobs, and is slowly going to kill the game.
I am not going to argue the benefits of AE. It has introduced much needed, new content. But people have to face a reality that the game is no longer about content or game play. The majority of this game is about farming and PL'ing. That may kill the game quickly. If DC Online and Champions Online have the content with the same type of powers selection, enh, and so forth, I can see a lot of people moving from CoX because the game goes back to content, and game play. But that is a theory which we shall see if it is true very soon. And even if we debate that DC and Champions will have their own version of AE, the one bet I will take and give greats odds on, is other games will implement their version of AE in a way that does not take so much away from the content and game play that most gamers I know like.

The only AE I will do is farm(and then only rarely) I mostly do arcs and tf's. I have played enough AE story arcs to know many authors couldnt write a suicide note much less an interesting story.

The BSF was well known to have bugs that made it difficult for many teams, especially PUG teams, to finish it, so nobody was really running it.
The new Kahn TF is easy, but dull. Yawn, more Council, on the same old Council maps. Other than Reichsmann, I'm not really convinced this is more interesting than running, say, the Citadel TF, which is dullsville. And even Reichsmann, with a good team, is mostly a matter of a standard AV beat-down, coupled with having to beat down the other AVs that spawn -- but nowhere as interesting as fighting the entire Freedom Phalanx in the LRSF, say.
The ITF, by contrast, is awesome, and for many people, remains fun even after repeated runs.

No. Its obvious to YOU. Not to everyone.
For me, the AE hasnt affected my game at all because I DONT pug. EVER.
Pugs are usually horrible. Theres little to no advantage to trusting 7 strangers to NOT be inefficient or morons who think you need empaths to survive a mission.. Therefore, my activities of teaming with my SG, Taskforcing with my global channels, roleplaying, and marketeering, havent noticed any change at all excepot less people screaming in broadcast or throwing blind invites at me to powerlevel them.
Has it affected the game? Sure. But only in that its killed the Radio Mission pug, to which I say Good riddance.

I want to concur with the folks saying that the reason no one was doing the BSF is because it was borked so that one of the most important powers for being able to finish it in times people consider reasonable was totally non-functional. Supposedly that was fixed just yesterday.
I like even a working version of the BSF even less than the 5TF, and I'm not that hot about the 5TF. I dislike the fixation on locking the temp powers in to certain ATs. "BSF team looking for AT X just so we can complete it in an hour" is asinine.

Each time we ran this prior to the patch, we did so with no problems and a non-optimal team and finished in under an hour. You don't need to have one of each AT to complete the SF. It's a nice-to-have, but nowhere near a requirement.
Try running with 1 brute, 2 to 3 good debuffers and the rest damage. You'll have no problems taking down Reichsman.

Except this isnt how the game is at all. MOST of the community is playing other stuff than the AE. They just arent standing around in town zones screaming in broadcast for pugs. the pugs are in the AE. the rest of us are gladly doing whatever we please.
