Looking for a new MM
Well I would suggest Ninjas/Poison, but it's a very frustrating build in the early to mid levels.
You could probably check out Zombies/Storm for an unusual and very powerful debuffing combo. The Lich works very well with Hurricane's debuff.
If you wanted something strange and very rarely seen pick up Zombies/Traps OR Ninjas/Traps. They both are quite powerful in their own reagrds.
Honestly a lot of the stronger builds are the more popular ones.
I've heard Robotics/Hurricane is a strong, rarely seen, and very good debufer.

Nin/Psn is a powerful combo thanks to the burst damage capability from Nin and the insane debuffing from Psn. The only problem though is that a Nin/Psn is mostly a ST beast and doesn't shine against large spawns. It would definitely play drastically different than your Thugs/Dark.
To the OP: It'd help more if you could let us know what sort of feel you're looking for from your MM (ex. Ranged vs. Melee).
It's hard to go wrong TBH. Just be advised that the melee pets require a lot more direct micromanaging to get the same results as a ranged set. Your going to be spoiled after leveling up a Thugs MM. Thugs have the most power from 1 to 50, the rest all have serious slow levels. Robots, for example, don't really come into their own until you at least get the assault bot.
It also depends on if you want a solo monster or something mroe group friendly. Bots/Pain would be a good grouper, as would Bots/Storm if played well.
I have been toying with making a Necro/Pain. I think that the Lich and the Servant will really round out /Pain. you will have Buffs, Debuffs, Heals and control.
/Pain should be very good at sturdying up the Zombies and keeping them alive.
Level 50s: to many to remember at this point
But he doesn't want /Pain, guys, jeez.
Bots/Trick Arrow is strong and not often seen. Although ( like bots always does ) it doesn't show most of it's strength before Assault Bot and the second upgrade.

Dangit, I was just coming here to recommend this one. Your bots stay at range, and your trick arrow powers all work at range, and the combo is uncommon, and you'll have lots of debuffs and controls and cool stuff to lay down.
Basically, I second this choice!

There's Merc/TA, which goes well thematically too. There's not that many Stormies out there either. I bump into some, bot it doesn't seem often. Maybe Zombie/Storm or Ninja/Storm.
I find my Ninjas/FF to be quite survivable and strong, with my bubbles enhancing their defense and my knockback keeping the mobs away from the ones whose defense has failed.

I've got one of these at about 45th and she's an awesome, frightening force of nature, and that's with just generic IOs. It's a great tankerminding combo. Dunno if it's "rare" or not though. For the record I'm currently running up as bots/dark and that's a greta combo as well.
Come to think fo it, is any MM really "no good"?
Whoops I missed the "no PD" in his OP
Then I vote for Bots/Storm...... Bots with double stacked resist and def auras is awesomesauce!!!

I think ninjas/poison would be very team friendly combo with double caltrops+ rain of fire, crit fire breath and noxious gas........ I want one on my team!!!

Personally, I would not level any melee pets with /trick arrow. One of the great things about TA is being able to ignite the oil slick, but that will make your melee pets run around like idiots and stop stabbing the other guys.
I have a thug/dark MM, and I am looking to make a new one, I would like some imput on some nice mix that are not seen regulary but are very very strong. And would like no thug or darks in the mix... any suggestion oh and no PD either, I like to help the team with debuffs and stuff to.
