MM's in PvP?

How are Masterminds in PvP these days?

I'm wondering how Pain Domination will fair.

Pain Doms are damn near impossible to kill but they don't always get kills.

Part of the reason you dont see many MM's in zone is due to the difficulty in escaping a gank with such low base hps. You can slug it out vs 2 people, but as soon as a 3rd joins in you're up the creek unless you phase because you cant run off without being beat down outside of BG mode. Its a challenging balancing act for people who enjoy self inflicted difficulty.

The better PvP Masterminds are Thugs/, Ninja/, and Necro (barely). The best secondaries are /Storm, /Poison, /Pain Dom, and /Traps. Offensively, Poison is easily the best. Doesn't offer much defense (other than a huge debuff to your opponent's damage), but it makes a hard target very soft. Pain Dom is very defensive and you'll be tough to kill, but it won't be easy to pull out a kill, either.

But I'd like to point out that other villains will use you as somewhat of a safe haven. Especially if you're Pain Domination. Those things are frikkin impossible to beat. So you're somewhat of a mobile base, that also heals and buffs. It's rare that one hero will try to take you on, because in all likelihood, that one hero is probably not going to beat you 1 on 1.

However, Pain Doms don't have a lot of damage output. That is, unless you're Ninja or Thugs. Even then, you'll have some trouble taking out the tougher Scrappers and Tankers. But they'll have more than just "trouble" taking you out.

But in zones, you'll often be targeted for a multi-hero beatdown (also known as gank, but I like my term better) so that the mobile base will be destroyed. Also, you're not very mobile in Zones. You can't choose fights very well (takes you out of BG Mode), and it's hard to run from fights, too.

In Arena, you'll be a lot tougher because it's one-on-one and players are forced to fight you, rather than avoiding you like a lot of heroes would in zones.

As I said in another thread, MM's can be very powerful. But that's only if someone chooses to fight them. They're like the really slow battle tanks that a single hero will avoid until he has enough friends to help take it down.

Basicly you cant be mobile and offensive. Or evade very well....

Hi guys. I'm about the newbiest newb there is. My five day old trial account has only two characters; a hero scrapper and a villain MM. I love theorizing, so I looked up all the powers, and I'm thinking of cool/effective combinations.

There's a power that grants group invisibility, I believe, and also one that grants group flight. Both affect minions. Isn't it possible to have a stealth strike air force? My MM is ninja/pain, and I'm building up the stealth and flight trees, because I love flying and I love ganking.

I just redid my MM and try to play him now more like a corrupter.

Currently 1220hp. When I get a ranged purp set and some pvp IO's that number should be near 1300. He has some end issues at the moment(can't consistently attack, debuff and heal myself), but i think with a numina and miracle, he should be ok and quite competitve, this way pets can run almost out of BG exclusively( as i also have all the primary attacks lol (yes they are initially weak cept when stacking on top of pet dmg, i consider it bonus damage, and well life drain and KoB, aren't shabby). Only drop back i see is no perception or vertical movement.

Incidentally i would like to see a necro/dark/soul or bots/dark/soul perform in this manner since they get a nice pb boosted heal thats up in seconds, and tohit debuff to me, is a great counter to any offensive build whether they are blasters, doms and scrappers.

necro is still better than anything.

the -to hit stacks like crazy with poison, storm and dark.
grave knights hit for ridiculous damage, especially when they crit.
and not having gloom = you're less than any other mm.

I stopped pvp'n with my MM i arena. It seems too easy with him. Ninja/dark here. Great -to hit debuffs, good heal, debuffs, etc.

In duels they are near impossible to kill if they know what they are doing. Pain will inevitably draw with any good tank or regen scrap because they just don't do the seconardy buffin or debuffin necessary to make the pets do enough dmg. And pain can be killed (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U1pBfzkl6qw) but you gotta have the skill to stay alive long enough to do it. The best MM I have ever seen is bot/storm (http://www.youtube.com/summersfield2009). This chick killed everything from tanks to scraps to other MMs. But I think for pvp any good MM needs a secondary that does more than keep pets alive if they wanna fight. I laugh when I see one in zone pvp though cause less they are FF they tend to get swarmed. Or do what I do, just tp them outta their mob of pets. BG ain't much help then

Im not saying you are wrong here but I think Bots/Pain or Ninja/Pain could maybe take a regen scrapper as they can debuff regen (-1000% on Bots) and with web envelope/cocoon can reduce recharge so the scrapper will lose out in healing.

Ofcourse anyone can just run away from Pain pretty easily so the only way youll really kill is for them suicide on you. You can take damage from ATs four levels higher then you with little trouble though (broadsword for instance) so if both players stay toe to toe I think the MM would end up winning. On the other hand any AT with -recharge can be a pain for Pain (pardon the pun) as you cant heal as fast.

P.S. Anyone who can do good aoe burst has a fair chance of taking most MMs down imo.

P.P.S. I made my Bots/Pain for zone support but Im undecided on the effectiveness of it as PvP there seems to cover too wide an area especially if you are teamed with players who are not very self sufficient and if they are they dont really need you.
