    Incarnate PvP?

It’s been about a year and a half since I’ve been in game. I popped back in to get a taste of pvp again, and headed over to RV for a few hours last night. I had a fairly rude introduction to post i20 lvl 50 PvP. My SS/Inv Brute took an 8 tick hit for 521 points of damage per tick, for a total of 4,168 damage. Needless to say I dropped dead. If I recall it was a power called Ion something? My understanding is this is some kind of Incarnate power that I’ve yet to read all the details on. Playing a master mind in RV now is a pointless endeavor, as many of the tankers in zone seemed to have an AOE Incarnate power that 1 shotted all my pets, virtually every time I left base. Is this intended or a known bug?

    Team Arena

It’s been about a year and a half since I’ve been in game. I popped back in to get a taste of pvp again. Is there any team arena action still going on?
  3. I've been playing for a few weeks now and have never had a crash to desktop, though I know from time to time others have been dumped to desktop while our AvA missions are loading. I did have a graphics issue where I could not see my inventory, however that was easily fixed after a trip to the beta forums.

In the large maps the jetpack could easily be compared to Super Jump. After having travel powers for so long in CoX, having access to something like this is an absolute must in any mmo I play now.

Finding an active and competative Agency/Alliance is a must if you intend to do more than just play a shooter and level. The Alliance we're involved with owns the most hexes currently on almost all of the maps. This means a constant struggle to hold these while attempting to further expand. Makes the open window times for the map based fights much more exciting when there is a ton going on.

I expect Beta will be coming to an end shortly, so I'll likely be in CoX a bit closer to sub date end on Feb 2nd. See you all in game, for a few days at any rate.
  4. I have canceled my sub, at least for a while. I've always loved the zone PvP in this game. However I really miss the long lost days of the highly organized/competitive ladder PvP. I got a solid taste of it again in a strong group of players, while defending and attacking hexes in the new MMO I'm playing now. Even if the ladder here gets off the ground (which I really hope it does), we're still stuck with the snails crawl arena set up where you're lucky to get 3-5 matches squeezed in a few hour time frame for ladder matches. My first 3 hour open map where our Agency had to scramble to get our A, B, and C teams together, then rush to defend and attack, where I was involved in 14+ hotly contested matches had me sold, and somewhat exhausted lol. Toss in a 'travel power' and very diverse flexible builds within classes and it’s a no brainer for me.

I've met some great people over the last 4+ years in CoX and will miss you all. I will likely return to try out the expansion and see if there were any solid efforts to improve PvP. Have fun all and good luck.

No, you can't have my stuff. :P

This. Dropping into Invis + Shadow Meld puts me to 44% DR'd defense on my lolenergy armour. That's only 6% less than Overload.

Epsilon is exactly right about the perception break as well. It's a must have survival strategy.

I'm a huge fan of spines simply because I dont have to give up stupidly good Shadow Meld for a hitty ranged attack.

Is there anything you can really do to get heals/buffs to your teammates when you are pretty much grounded the entire match? (So you can at least be semi usefull)
Farm the TA, its what happens to any colds that show up to throw down against the emp in most of the KB's I've been in.

Trow spines is completely pointless, because it basically doesn't even do any damage. I guess you can proc them, but you can just proc impale and lunge and spam them nonstop. Not like a stalker is likely to be using many attacks anyway.

The main reason I have phase and hiber is that it's a 100% guaranteed getaway. Without phase, if people are on you after you leave hibernoob, there's a decent chance you'll be in trouble. With phase, there's no possible chance to die at all. And when you play a toon with zero accolades or IO's, that is nice to have.

Lastly, some people actually like PvP'ing at less than level 50, for example sirens. With only hibernoob, you're basically limiting yourself to only RV and arena. Which is fine for some, but not all.
Someone needs to further explain to me in detail why I would even want more than phase on a stalker. If I wanted to stand around as long as hiber takes to heal I'd just hide and then press rest. (Rest: Regeneration +19, Hiber Regeneration +10, yep 2x's as fast to full health by resting) I've died all of 1 or 2 times ever from someone going into phase and trying to phase kill me. (Invis and Shadow Meld are your best friends) In fact, you're better off phasing and popping a few greens for survival purposes vs hiber in case a long animation attack is still incoming prior to you pressing phase/hiber. (I've killed countless people with impale due to this as they try and drop to hiber) On many occasions I've had the pleasure of hiber camping a blaster, phasing, and killing them as they bust out of hiber and phase. (the users of this strategy are pretty easy to remember) With that in mind I'd hardly say it’s a 100% guaranteed getaway. Since any good stalker will always be taking Stealth and Invis, please enlighten me as to why I should waste a valuable power slot on hiber. Outside of concern for the super rare phase kill, I'm at a loss.
  10. Many people dont realize you can still fly while webbed. I'm not sure if its a bug or what, but I can toggle on my flight pack and up I go np. You cant get past the -jump, but if you must go up, do it that way.

still, i'll tell you what i don't have in my build: a hold proc in fossilize.

My tank has a ranged attack chain that will make your eyes bleed. Its a beast on end with the rage downers, but man does it carve people up. I close to caped acc and damage, with 60% rech, and 2 damage procs in all powers.

if you're not buffed, 8 second pb stuns from the blaster with the highest damage potential (sonic/em) is totally balanced.

whoever thought to put this mez system in the arena was smoking the ganja on the daily.

Its funny you mention the 7-8 second mez, since thats what my poor Peace Bringer sometimes has to deal with while in squid form, not even including the PBed stun. My trips to the base include 16 greens and 4 break frees because of it. I've gotten used to identifying incoming mez on the task bar, and popping a break free if it looks like a good duration is expected. That toon rarely dies without a very determined spike, and just last night I had broadcast calls of "kill the stupid PBer." The nice thing is most doms tend to slot their hold for damage instead of duration, so I mostly never need to use them. I'm constantly shocked that so many have failed to realize the IO setup that brings 100% acc, 95% mez duration, 85% damage, and 67% recharge.

Our opinions on the i13 changes have always been on a different plain of existance since I'm a zoner and you're a dueler. We could really get the madness started and begin to debate this again, but if you recall the original 12 page post of doom that that spawned, I think I'll pass and spend my time in the zone instead. We'll just agree to disagree.

secondly, you should have been spamming crush more than anything else. that's how you were supposed to play doms with immobs back in i12. people would get immob'd, panic, hit bf's and that's how you ran them out faster.

that was just a really bad duel.

I will openly admit to being a terrible dueler, hence the fact I rarely if ever duel. :P

  15. You nailed the build Smeg.

I'm of the opinion that you really need to decide if you want it primarily for arena or zone, since its hard to go wrong with 2 togs that really give good bonuses. Betty has actually done well in smaller team arena settings like 3 v 3's and 4 v 4's, but she suffers from not having SJ when trying to perma taunt targets in the larger matches. (that's why I said you'd want to decide so you can drop Fighting or keep it for zone)

She cant compare to the brute in 8 v 8's. After playing my respecced team arena brute Aazure Steel in 8 v 8, I'm convinced that a scrapper followed by brute is probably best taunt bot. That super fast recharge single target taunt is so beautiful on the scrapper. Without nades the tanker really lags behind in the disruption department, hence my decision to spec the tank completely for zone.

IMO for zone fighting, Shields really comes into its own because of True Grit. 20% hit point bonus at all times is sickness, combine that with 2 health accolades and a decent defense/hit point build and you end up with 3k hit points. You could pick up the 3rd accolade and shoot for 3100 if you are insane and have no life. :P

The defense is dead theory works out very much in a tank's favor. Most people are now less worried about base accuracy and +to hit, and more worried about how many procs they can cram into their attacks. Combine that with clearing 50% defense pre DR, all those hit points, an almost impossible to interrupt aid self, debuff defense and -recharge resistance, reasonable DR'd resistance of 37% with tough, and you end up with a pretty sick toon. I monitor my combat log while fighting, and most people are rolling to hit in the low 30% range, some the mid 20%. Mind doms get a boost into the mid 40%.

If you decide to skip fighting, expect to take more damage due to the lower resist/defense. At the very least, I'd try to clear 50% defense as long as it doesnt hurt your build. Should be possible to do when togging on CJ.

I'm pretty sure he skipped sj because I'm almost positive that I've never seen him use it. Either way, his tank can take a serious beating.

I had mind probe, it just missed 3 times in a row when he was held. Its the first power in the second powers bar.

The end of this i12 match is what was formally known as an "I'm out of break frees" death. I certainly still have bad memories of how ridiculous the mez system was pre i13. 1 buff toon stacking mez protection used to be able to flat out shut down doms and trollers. However, without that buffer you had best come to the zone with 20 break frees, and be prepared to head to the base for more every 15 mins or so.

  18. My shield/ss tank's Fossilize clears 300 on squishies with defense shields, and that's before the 2 procs potentially add to that lol. Someone was bad mouthing my tanks damage last night, so I pulled the numbers and posted them in broadcast. I did 1033 damage to a corruptor with 4 attacks...3 are ranged attacks...and I'm a tank. Nerf please?

    Freedumb??

Barrier is trying to say that if you spend all that time power leveling a new toon on a new server and not transferring it, you have to come up with the money for the standard 1-5 billion IO build from somewhere. The serious players market pvp to get that money. If they had just transferred the toon, they would not have had to market pvp. This equals less competition for Barrier while he gouges impatient noobs eyes out in the black market rolling his inventory.

This is confusing. So you moved the toons to pvp with originally right? By transferring them, you made the decision that instead of spending the time power lvling more toons of that type to pvp with on Freedom, you would just drop the $10.00 per and save yourself the time. Are you saying you would have rather spent the time power lvling say 3 toons, putting builds together, buying and slotting IO's, and getting all required accolades, instead of just dropping $30.00? Even in the good old days of say 8 hours to 50, you should still expect a few hours to purchase, build, and slot all your IO's, and a very healthy amount of time to accolade. Lets say you're the god of speed and manage to spend only 15 hours total per toon to get ready for RV. You realize you're saving yourself .67 an hour to do something that most PvP's find tedious, right? (If you're not really serious about PvP and enjoy PvE, then more power to you I guess) Regardless of if the toon ended up being nerfed in the long run, you still saved yourself 45 HOURS of your time. If you look at it logically, the only reason to not pay for a transfer is because you don't have a job.

A few stalkers so far for AS, but personally I've yet to see a taunter. I think a brute or scrapper would end up being best for that job because they can bring webnades to the table on top of taunt.

I never understood why he insisted on taunting a therm. The therm was not attacking things and this was before the -range buff. Webnading them was great, but he was always wasting that taunt...

    PvP Brute

Remember that bug that allowed you to max fury in one attack? That was probably the only time that a brute actually surpassed the usefulness of a tank or scrapper. Since fury is essentially impossible to build in zone pvp, brute's end up being lower base damage than a tank with less survivability.
