Triumph 3v3 League
I had a lot of fun PvPing last night. I know a few people were unable to make it, but i think we had a good turnout. I look forward to next Friday. There should be even more people.
Also, after I confirm some information, I will be posting a list of the official teams, and the people in the player pool. I think that will help with forming new teams.

I almost killed one! I share the sentiment though. It's a shame to see how badly the heal decay works.

The good thing about heal decay is that its fixed on the next issue because it has its own option now to click in the arena if you want it on or off.

As far as this well be able to organize more teams and all and have a better idea who is looking for a team and who is just checking it out and maybe sub in for someone. Something I suggest is, if you havnt already, get in touch with a couple other ppl that are interested in breaking into the pvp scene and are interested in learning new things about this game and see what sorts of toons and powersets you have to work with and see what might synergize well. If you have any questions feel free to ask me. Im more then happy to help with builds, team configs, random questions... whatever... but if you come with the attitude and view that you will jsut die and not have any fun then thats exacly what will happen. Sure at first dont expect to win much, but you have to willing to start somewhere. This new pvp has a relativly sharp learning curve to it. If you wanna learn how to play in the system then it will take some effort. No build or billions worth of IOs will make you a god. If you dont know what your doing you still wont know what your doing with a 'uber' build.
Anywho.. hope to see yall on friday and have some fun
I have to agree with Firi. It's not easy and you have to eat a lot of humble pie before you can start dishing any out.

Try not to make assumptions when you weren't there.
I came to have fun, and I was excited to try things out. I didn't come with an expectation of failure, but I wasn't expecting to be a major player either. Both matches weren't humbling. They were humiliating. Those are two different things.
PvP is still way too FOTM-friendly. Like all the PvPers have said, they didn't fix it with Issue 13. They raised the entry bar so high that players like me don't have a chance to do anything without being the pity spot on a team.
I don't even mind having said pity spot, but that didn't seem to be an option this time around.

1st time: Cold / Psy Defender (1st on the farm list in that match )
2nd time: Dark / Pain Corruptor (Survived more, but only because I was 2nd on the farm list )
Again, I wouldn't be the complainer on this one if I'd been on a team with a chance. We were 3 PvEers who faced 3 good PvPers. I've had fun (and a chance of doing something) at 1 PvP event so far. I was paired with Psy. We had a good time.
Getting PWNt ain't that bad. Getting horribly blanked twice is embarassing.

Those are both good PvP sets. Are those builds made for PvP? A PvE build and a PvP build are very different. In PvE you dont need phase shift and Cones/AoE's are extremely useful; however single target damage is better for a PvP build and one of the most important thing about PvP is the ability to evade and have an escape. On the Cold/Psi do you have phase shift and does the dark/pain corr have hibernate?
When I first started PvPing I died a lot. When I say a lot I mean A LOT. One thing I learned that helps me PvP is I spent a while learning to evade and when is the right time to attack. Then I had to learn my roll on a PvP team. For example if I am on a tank I am a disruptor and taunter, if I am on a blaster I am damage dealer, if I am on an emp I am support. Dont get me wrong these toons can be played many different ways and they can be used for other rolls. I seen defenders do damage and blasters disrupt; however those are the positions I choose to play while on my toons.
If you need help with a build I know Firi said he will help and I know Helm is great with numbers too, but if you need some help I can give you some ideas as well.

Black Katipo Arachnos Widowlvl 50+++ - Fortunata Build / Night Widow Build
They were PvE builds. Like I said, I knew going in I wasn't going to be TEH PWNZOR. It just sucked to get completely shut-out twice.
My Dark/Pain has a ST build with Hibernate, but it's not slotted yet. I really, REALLY wanted to be on that build, but it's useless currently.
I'm sorry, but I wasn't making an assumption, but stating things as I've seen and experienced it. If you brought a cold, of course you are going to be a farm target. Support toons are always the ones who get it first. ANd while I am not aprised of all the new changes in the current PvP, I *do know evasion (phase/hibernate) is an artform unto itself. You obviously knew you were a farm target so why is it humiliating to die (again and again and again) when you knew the entire opposing team was gunning for you? You said you were up against 3 good PvPers on a team of PvErs. How did you expect otherwise?
I don't blame you for the sour taste in your mouth. It sucks to get beaten, and beaten bad. But anyone who has PvPed (and continues to) has been in that position.
Perhaps instead of starting the league off immediately, Betamax and PE can run a few sessions prior and teach some ropes to the new folk, instead of just throwing them in the water with the "sharks." There are certainly enough people in this thread offering to help in any event.

Hey Az, I replied to firi....
Also...
- I don't care that I got farmed. I expected it.
- Both my teams got shut-out. I thought we'd get at least 1 kill.

Good to know! Thanks!
IMO, Heal Decay should not have been introduced in the first place. I tried bringing my poopy EMP with me and I was really shocked at how Heal Decay just ruins the use of healing sets in PvP. At one point, I hit Cath's toon with Heal Other, Absorb Pain and the heal Temp I got from the day job and it didn't even put a dent in his health.
Just wanted to add... I was with Cath on his team and I tried my EMP and my blaster. I didn't go into it expecting much either since none of my characters are built for PvP. Yeah we got farmed basically, but that didn't bother me as much as the changes made to the PvP system. Heal Decay was more disappointing to me than not getting any kills.
When we were all working on the Fusion Generator badge a few months ago, we were all joking about "Cobra Strike" and how mezzes are essentially useless now. Just as an example, I have the complete Absolute Amazement set in Cobra Strike on Shard and her stun lasted all of 2 seconds, even with accolade boosts. That, to me at least, is silly and I can see how the barriers of entry into PvP have become much higher and much more confusing to the average player.
Build requirements, IMO, are still far too diverse between PvP and PvE and I don't see many casual players wanting to invest the time to essentially learn their character all over again.
I also noted how the SS/SJ combo is still far superior to fly or TP and it seems an absolute must if you event want to survive in PvP.
Just my 2 inf, but the "improvements" did not do much for PvP at all. I'm no expert though. All in all I was glad to see people turning out for the event.

TEH PWNZOR.
[/ QUOTE ]
When I come Friday you can be! Since everyone will be like "Farm HH," you wont be target numero uno, I will be the PWNZORED.
But on the real side, I remember when I first learned how to pvp. I got my [censored] handed to me by Helm day in and day out (and Pather Ink and Morgy helped get me quite a few times). I got so mad I wanted to learn how to pvp just so I could kill him once... Then Tarvitz took me under his wing and started working with me. I got frustrated dying over and over and over again.
After a few weeks, I went in RV with an enrg/dev blaster (LOL). I snuck around the back side, targeting helm. I started laying trip mines, i think I put down 24, and started to teleport him. He landed right on top, brought him to a sliver of health and started to run. I chased after him and after I hit him a few times, he died. I took a screenshot because I was so proud
Vent:
Helm: blah blah come out heroes. I am waiting. I wanna eat our soul. Blah blah. I will come in there ....WTF????!!!?!?!?!
Helm: [censored] Heather. Why didn't you say you were in here!
*pause*
Helm: Fail. Your not gonna do it Heather. You can never bea....
I will never forget the next words spoken though...
Helm: Ooooooooohhhhhh Heather. *pause* You messed up! *pause* You're so dead now! (As he got his mind dom and him and Morgy killed me about 50 times each to make up for me killing him :P)
First thing is PvP isn't easy, it does take skill and now, even more. (IMHO) PvP isn't for someone who just wants to try it here and there. Just like a Master STF or LRSF, you didn't get it the very first time, it took time to learn how to beat it but once you did, its easy now.
My best advice to people just wanting to try it out, see if they even like it to get serious, is to get a partner, someone good at PvP and run with them. After seeing a "vet" do it, and answer questions, then not only have you made a friend, but you gain another step into what's called "PvP."
I would also say go to "Fight Nights," but I kind of stopped doing them, and I don't think if I tried to start them up again anyone would come.
Just to put this out there...
I'm not pissed at PvPers. I like that people are so good that I leave shaking my head. That's kind of the point of PvP.
This event just wasn't really a good learning experience. It was a dying experience. That's fine, too. I've always been a sore loser, so I know I'm QQing in this thread. I apologize for that.
I really have no desire to see PvP turn into a random chance for any idiot to win. I just didn't have fun at this event because it was more for PvPers than entry-level people. Twiz acknowledged that, too.
Learning from failure is life. I get it. Learning from complete obliteration? Nah. Point me to a PvP-n00b event.
Sorry Cath! >.> We felt bad on the 2nd one, so we just started messing with the scrapper... or was it a tank. Didn't mean for ya to have a bad time. Eh just keep at it, and get some build advice from firi and who ever was offering.
HH you best be showing up next Friday though >XD
Also a lot of times a few of us do "pve toons that shouldn't step foot in the arena" matches. You haven't arened till you do a 2v1 with 2 traps corrs vs a good brute, lol. Hit up twiz and we can bring some random toons just for fun

1> The traps vs Outraged was awfully damn funny.
2> We got shut out versus PE. Course, they got shut out versus us as well. (we went 0-0, but holy crap was that a fun match)
3> I'm available as well for build help. I do some moderately strange things, but they work. Go figure.
I'll be there again this Friday, presumably with Tam and Rage in tow. If things look like they did this week, I'll get out something other than my pain dom. That toon was originally made for 2v2, and was recently rebuilt to fix a few things that didn't work so well once i14 came out.
Cath, you really do get props for being the only team besides PE who was willing to take a turn with us. We showed up for 3v3 with well tested toons and a good amount of experience between us in current pvp. No one else even gave it a shot (besides PE), so that says a lot for ya.
The real rub about i13's "make pvp more accessible for everyone" is that it is true to some degree. SO'd toons can be competitive...but when you get right down to it, a 1k hp toon isn't going to do as well as a 1.5-1.6k hp toon. Single target is going to do better than aoe, and certain powersets (dark blast) get hosted on damage. In the end, all they really did was change the rules without doing much to change the game. Some changes are good, such as no more mez-locking to death.
I'm sure i15 is going to distract me for a couple days, but I'm still available most of the time if anyone wants to stomp me in the arena and compare some notes. I have the fortune of not being a 13 year old who's going to scream "omg pwnd u suk." I'm in it for the challenge and fun. Unless a player is a complete jerk, I'm not sitting there at my keyboard laughing when I get a kill. I really would like to see more people picking up PvP. I'm happy to do what I can to help make it a fun experience for those who want to have fun with it.

Props to you for coming out and trying man but this is simply not true. PvP is much less dependent on skill now. I've only done it a few times but they've made it much harder to be pwnd (admittedly anyone with a brain can pwn me right now, but the scores are lower and the kills aren't quite as instantaneous). Personally though, to the real PvPers, I would take this as a chance to have some fun and use some other characters besides emps and blasters or whatever the hell people use now. Seems like that'd be more of a win-win situation, the PvPers get to whip out some more unique stuff and the PvErs don't get "humiliated" or w/e.
