Drive-by Buffers
But...
How would we have jumping parties without inertial reduction?

See my sig. It's more than just the quotation, now.
"City of Heroes. April 27, 2004 - August 31, 2012. Obliterated not with a weapon of mass destruction, not by an all-powerful supervillain... but by a cold-hearted and cowardly corporate suck-up."

I would pay $10.00 extra a month from now until this game crumbles into dust if the devs would turn the platform under Atlas' feet into a suppression zone. It'd be nice to have one public space where I don't have to tolerate the jackass who thinks I need speed boost applied three times in rapid succession.

Maybe suppressing outdoor area is a bit questionable. Indoor areas like auction house, City Hall in Galaxy where people respec may have suppression imposed.

Kinda sad that people want to cancel a buff just because of the graphics.

If you're hanging out, not doing anything, not planning on doing anything, and you're just being social and you happen to take pride in the costume that you have spent time on... It's quite understandable to be a bit peeved when some random person comes by and coats you in a nice thick coating of ice that you can barely see through.

That's the only reason why I want to be able to cancel buffs, or decline them (like with rezzes/fortunes). Drive-bys aren't as dire now as they used to be with the old sonic graphics (just one shield was enough to trigger a migraine for me, not fun at all), but they're still one of my major pet peeves.
Are there any known hardware-wise reasons why the option to turn off buffs wouldn't be viable? My knowledge of technology and video gaming ends with being able to set up a macro.

If they put power suppression around the statue, how will we get the badge on top of the statue?

I always just take it in stride. Normally by /emote shivers... *resulting in <$name> shivers...* and saying in local "Did anyone else notice a cold snap move in?"
The is a RP game, if you cannot RP the random circumstances that you endure, then the problem is not with the game...

Good point. If the power suppression of the square was a defined (yet invisible) box that went as high as say Atlas' knees, it should still be possible to fly or jump over the suppressive area to get the badge while giving the folks who are socializing a bit of personal peace. And the power suppression would also have to keep Rikti and Zombie invasions from spawning within that box.
And, personally, I'm not overly fond of the buffs that set you on fire or encase you in ice even in gameplay. I'd accept them if given a choice because it is the nature of this game but I find them pretty thematically stupid. I also feel that they are kind of genre-breaking. I know that buffing players is a staple of MMOs but I think it would have been more appropriate for a game in the superhero genre to have focused on debuffs more than buffs. Personal opinion, of course.

I wouldnt mind the ability do delete buffs but i like drive by buffers for the most part.
example: i love getting a random shield or SB when im a lvl 1 in a mob of hellions, or right after leveling up at the trainer as it gives me just that much extra to get to lvl 3 and 4.

I will admit that the subject is a little misleading as I also don't mind a buff or three while I'm actually playing the game. If I just standing in Atlas Park with a few friends, I don't want/need it.

In many cases that is WHY we want to cancel them: because of the graphics. I have no objection to the protection Ice shields give; I loathe the way they *look*.
IMO it is past time for the appearance of some of this stuff to be revisited by the developers. There is no reason on God's green earth that Ice shields can't look 110% better than they do.
The longer I play, the more tired I get of 'buffs" anyways. I don't want some moron on the team deciding FOR me that I need orbiting firey rocks, to be encased in 12"-thick ice, to be invisible or [most LOL-tastic of all] that being able to jump really, really high will somehow help me overcome those +4s we're facing down.
So no, I don't want suppression; what I really want is the ability to dismiss. Everyone will love this except for those buffers with zero impulse-control, and I anticipate their tears being.... delicious.
RIGHT-CLICK-OFF. ITS TIME IS NOW.
I agree that the Ice Armer is a bit overdone, and the Fire Rocks (and other fiery shieldy things) arre a bit over the top and lagtastic. In fact, that would be my only complaint; get rid of graphics/animations that while cool, cause lag. But that's just me.
I'd say that just turning your toon a cool light blue translucent would be a lot better for Ice Armor. Actually, my old Ice Dom was a copy of my En/En Blaster lookswise, but the colors redone in flat blues (including skin) that made her look like an 'iced' version of my Blaster, and I got a lot of compliments on how it just exuded cold from that look.
Sadly, griefing a CC won't go awy if this is changed. Preteens will be preteens. Although, to me CCs are a waste of time even for the most narcissistic. And I don't RP (with a vengeance... I am the anti-RP). Other than I do RP a deaf/mute when I have to go to Virtue to play with the wife. That way I can get around adding silly characters to my chat just to make a comment or chat (grrr, stupid RPer 'rules').
And if it bothers people; sure, give us the ability to cancel Buffs.

And let me cancel buffs. Everquest had that figured out a decade ago and I've never said anything good about that game ever.
