Anyone seen this before? I just started getting this tonight just by trying to go through the COHUpdater startup (clicked on Next twice, then got the error). Text follows:

Window box title:
CiceroUIWndFrame: CohUpdater.exe - Application Error

Box msg:

The instruction at "0x74736c57" referenced memory at "0x5c2c3b7c". The memory could not be "read".

Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debuf the program

Haven't seen this error window come up before, so wanted to post it here. I was last on Test this Sunday, and that was fine for access.

Thoughts?

I'm getting the exact same thing, since the latest patch. I can usually get on the Test Server, but it sometimes takes two or three tries (and I get the above error message even when it lets me on).

Windows XP PC here, if that matters.

Do you have Office installed on your PC?

Every time I ever had that particular error pop up, it was a conflict between Office and something else.

Office Home & Student 2007, yep. Hmmm...

I, on the other hand, do not have Office installed. (I use OpenOffice instead). And I'm getting the same error. XP, PC.

When I used to do Tech Support for Peachtree Software, that error was an issue issue with Speech and Handwriting input conflicting with something else.

You can try to disable it, provided you don't use the feature.

It's a bit different to disable it in Office 07 than the earlier versions.

Won't hurt to try this:

Start ->
Control Panel ->
Date, Time, Language And Regional Options ->
"Languages" tab ->
"Details" ->
go under "Installed services" and find Speech Recognition ->
click Remove and then OK ->
Click OK again.

You may need to restart your computer after this.

Not sure if the same type of thing exists in Open Office.

Removing Speech Recognition didn't do the trick, but I also removed Handwriting Recognition (which I'd read caused problems with Office 2003 too), and the error's gone now. Thanks!

Glad to help.

It's been a number of years since my Peachtree Tech days, but I'm glad I remembered that for you.

This worked for me, had to remove HR as well before the app would start. Good call, HG and JT!

Castle, any ideas on this? Will XP users have to forgo speech recognition for the latest build?

Same problem, windows XP service pack 2.

I have the same problem and spent all week with tech support working on this and got nowhere(not being able to work on it during daytime hours really slows down the response).
I asked around on a global channel and was directed to this forum thread and tried removing Handwriting Recognition. This did not work by itself. I then returned and removed speech recognition and the game loaded test just fine.

The problem was resolved within minutes. I've sent a note to the techs helping me about the fix. I suppose this is the whole point of beta!

Somebody should give you a medal..really...
After I downloaded the 06/02 test patch, it became impossible to get to the test server. No single message (unlike pretty much everybody in this thread). Test would just not load. All I was able to do was download the 06/05 patch. As soon as I would click on "NEXT" on the updater, it would just vanish.
So I tried my luck and removed speech recognition....and it worked!!
THANK YOU!

I had the same exact error, sat around feeling unloved and very frustrated for a couple of days...found this thread and removed Speech Recognition & Handwriting Recognition both, now I'm able to get on the Test Server once more! Of course, nobody else seems to be there at the moment, so I guess I won't be doing the new TF anytime soon, but it's the thought that counts......

They're what they sound like. They allow computers that are made for it to recognize speech or handwriting for input.

Follow the directions that Julio Thomas gave in this thread earlier. He only mentioned one of the two, but they're both where he says.

I don't know; do you?

(Do you use speech or handwriting recognition on your computer?)

Ah figures its excactly what it sounds like, for some reason i thought it had something to do with the game. Alas i have neither of those so i wonder what could be causing the same error for me as you guys?
