  1. I would suggest channel. As others have mentioned, I don't see much uptake for related chars (except maybe as short-lived jokes).
  2. I would strongly advise changing the game character's name. Even if you are the creator, if the name and/or design of a game character is similar to that of one from an outside work, NCSoft will treat it as a copyright violation and generic them if/when it's brought to their attention. I have actually seen this happen, several years ago.

Also, as noted, the publisher finding out that the character name exists in a game with a EULA may make them skittish; it depends on how hungry the lawyers are that day. I'd say save a lot of headaches and just rename the toon.
  3. For me, it's the little things. The first time I ever truly felt like a villain was two simple words, uttered by a Luddite as my brute sauntered out from behind some crates in Cap au Diable:

    "Oh crap."
  4. Yes, they do drop during banner events. I can state this with certainty, as one dropped for my Domi a couple days after she became Incarnate-capable and was puttering around one of the circles.

In theory, this would also mean they can drop during zombie raids as they use the same system (as far as I'm aware). Haven't been able to confirm it directly as of yet, though.
  5. I don't think many of them would be happy.

Naraku no Hana - I really hope she never becomes aware. That wouldn't end well for -anyone-.

Doctor Domination - Would probably have some choice words for making him so ineffectual as a villain.

Protocol 9 - After about a minute of "wai- wha- how?", he'd eventually settle for simply flipping me the bird and going about his merry way.

The Overlooked - Would spend the better part of an hour in a profanity- and threat-laced rant at my existence, and it wouldn't be unearned. (I put him through some -serious- misery a couple years ago with the Second Rikti War.) Would likely be unuseable afterwards due to a refusal to cooperate.

Lil' Ray of Gloom - Being a meta-humor character, would simply sigh and say "I *****ing knew it.".

I am officially stealing this reference for the next time I have Longbow turn on each other in a mission because they're bored.
  7. Well, assuming you're sticking with Blasters or Corruptors... Recolored Rad, Fire or Energy might be good choices, maybe Sonic if you want to work in experimental tech. Unless you're tied to the idea of kinetic weapons, in which case AR is probably the only other alternative.

For secondaries, all I can think off offhand would be a recolored /Psi; try and pass it off as an experimental energy projecter (not neccessarily psychic in origin?).

Mind you, the basic concept could be stretched to include melee combat; think of a sabotage suit sent in against the really big targets. I'd suggest DB/Inv for that, since Katana might be a bit cliche.
  8. I dimly recall (could be wrong; someone'll have to trawl the patch notes for the year and change to confirm) that initially KB enhancements specifically enhanced Knockback, not Knockdown or -up. They did make the specific change a while back so that those enhancements affected all related Knock* powers.
  9. Comic-book heroes, not so much. I do have a Widow who's a Predator pastiche, though; the whole "hunting targets who shoot back" thing.

There's also a really convoluted costume reference: one of my Domis has a costume slot that's an homage to a character from the series who's opening theme provides the Domi's name. I'll give y'all a minute to try and follow that.
  10. The same thing happens with the destroyable lab equipment on a particular tech map tile (the ones that randomly buff/debuff on blowing up). As long as these false signals don't end up counting towards the "kill all" requirement for the mission, I think we can just chalk this one up as an amusing quirk.
  11. Another alternative is to simply ignore the mission story and take just the powers. Either they manifested on their own, or in the case of my own Crab, he got Scorpy's stuff "secondhand" off eBay. In short, the actual patron arcs can be considered personal non-canon.
  12. I've done the stereotypical angelic PB (still have her; it may be a cliched concept, but I don't plan on tossing her anytime soon), and have been using a Widow as a Predator-style alien hunter (not too sure how long that one will last). Once GR goes live, I'm planning on making a red-side, single-form 'Shade occultist (although lobster mode might make for an interesting summon/possession; we'll see).

    Mouse Oddity

So, I finally get the new computer (running Win7), and also get myself one of Microsoft's Arc wireless mice. After some minor teething troubles involving line-of-sight, I finally got it to work consistently, with one exception: for some unknown reason, when I log into CoH, my mouse's scroll wheel doesn't zoom in/out like the mouse on my old rig does. It will scroll the chat window up and down, but not the camera.

I looked through the keymapping options, saw the manual key versions of zoom in/out, but nothing corresponding to the scroll wheel. Did I miss an option, known issue, or a setting I've overlooked?
  14. I'm rather proud of "Gun Catta". Yes, she is a catgirl.
  15. I'm running into a "Product distribution failed" message, although they still charge my card. I'm assuming it's just the rush.

A valid question, and an important point I probably should have mentioned. I'm only going to be running one display, but it's a large one; about 47 inches, if I remember right. (Gotta love HDMI ports.)

As I found out the hard way when upgrading my multi-purpose system, larger monitors need larger cards. So if I do go the single-card route, I would have to get something pretty beefy to start with.

For multi-card rigs, though, do all of the cards have to be equivalent, like with RAM? Or can I get a decent card now and link it up with a newer card down the line? And can you link up the on-board graphics processor into the loop?
  17. I'm debating finally getting a rig primarily for gaming/media, and I'm dithering over the video card. As I understand it, if I plan to go the multi-vid card route I have to get a mobo that supports it from the get-go. Question is, is it really worth it? Two cards means a beefier power supply (not much of an issue, just an annoyance) to better thermal regulation (definately an issue) and possibly other things that I don't even know about (biggest issue).

So, is the gain in graphics shineyness worth juggling the above factors? Or should I just get a decent single card that's near-cutting edge?
  18. One oddity I have noticed when using /petsay (mind you, this was a long time ago, before the issues arose) is that you have to have moved the pet before it will accept a /petsay request. If you summon one, leave it where it dropped and try and make it speak, nothing will happen.
  19. Only one Ah-ha! moment really sticks with me.

I had a mid-level Mind Control/Emp 'troller who was my entry into my SG's teen dicision. I'd gotten a decent backstory for his powers, etc., but nothing really seemed to set. The group was fun, but I was about to add him to the chopping block.

I'm running a timed msh in Perez, only to have to abort because a storm rolled into my area. It rolls out, I log back in, and still have time left. I hate failing a mission for any reason, so once more into the fray he goes.

While he's wailing on the bad guys, a newer member to the SG comes on and starts chatting through the SG channel. The usual character intros, yadda yadda. The conversation quickly turns to powers; she mentioned she blew things up, mine mentioned he just made them think they got blown up. Telepathy can be very convicing.

And then the immortal line: "That must make getting dates pretty easy, huh?"

To this day, I have -never- seen my 'troller so flustered. Despite being a teenaged male, the thought of using his power like that had never crossed his mind - and now that it was brought up, he refused to think any further along those lines. He was a Good Guy.

That little encounter saved him from the chopping block and eventually got him to 50. (With a lot of ugly bumps on the road there, but meh. It's Paragon.)

That was "Operation Unholy Rage", back in 2009. It wasn't a strike just against the bots, but the entire sales networks that CCP had been able to uncover. Here's their announcement.

I petered out on Eve well before this, but still get their e-mails; I think I woke the upstairs neighbors shouting "YES!" when I read this, just on principle. I think they noted something like a 30% drop is server usage after cluster-banning began.

Yeah, it is. Hate to be the one to rain on the parade, but anyone remember the "Star Strider" thing running across all servers last year? The devs giving each server various tasks and things to protect?

Whole lotta setup, and that went nowhere.
  22. Meh. They show up, we feed them their armor, they slink off. Lather:rinse:repeat.

Unless they're teaching their monkeys how to use automatic weapons and dropping them as a first wave, I think we'll manage.

I was about to say this could be tested easily enough, but that made me realize something: I haven't seen a zombie invasion since the Winter Event started. Unless the "Supernatural activity detected" alert covers both events, I've only seen banners pop up in the Hollows. Another odd run of luck?

Ah, that makes sense. Since that limits supernatural spawns to the hazard zones, the odds of it being the Hollows climbs dramatically. Thank you!
  25. Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this issue; it might be server-specific, it might not.

On Virtue, ever since the server crashes near the start of the winter event, every time that I see the banner event announced on the Alerts channel, it's always in The Hollows. It's possible that other events that are happening when I'm not on are rotating like they should be, but for at least the past five days, every time someone triggers the event, it ends up in the same zone.

Anyone else on other servers noticing the same thing? Anyone else seeing the events head to other zones? If it's the latter, then I need to start looking at lottery tickets, because that many in a row means there's a streak going somewhere.
