[Help]Character Concept for Resistance Toon
Hey guys,I'm having some trouble to create this toon i'm planning,so here's the concept:
He's some sort of former Air Force Pilot or Flying-Armor from Japanese Defense Forces who defected to the Resistance. I'm having some problems into selecting the Powerset to this one.I'd like to have something like War Machine from Marvel, but i don't think DP/traps would be accurate enought to reproduce big guns. Also, concept ideas on a ex-pilot with super armor can and will be seen with love and cheer |
Just throwing that out there; something to consider so you aren't scrutinized in the future, not that you care about canon or anything.
By "defecting"I meant that he saw what Cole did to the goverment and went to fight against him.I might have written the wrong way,sry =/

Well, assuming you're sticking with Blasters or Corruptors... Recolored Rad, Fire or Energy might be good choices, maybe Sonic if you want to work in experimental tech. Unless you're tied to the idea of kinetic weapons, in which case AR is probably the only other alternative.
For secondaries, all I can think off offhand would be a recolored /Psi; try and pass it off as an experimental energy projecter (not neccessarily psychic in origin?).
Mind you, the basic concept could be stretched to include melee combat; think of a sabotage suit sent in against the really big targets. I'd suggest DB/Inv for that, since Katana might be a bit cliche.
Make a fire blast energy manipulation blaster.
>_>
I must warn you, you'll probably get a few people nagging you about your character being from Japan. [Japan doesn't exist in Praetorian earth anymore, only in Primal.]
^-- the above is because Praetoria's city is supposed to be the last city on Praetorian earth, which is why it's a 'utopia'. Then again, they never clarified if it WAS the last city, or ONE of the last cities.
Pilots....sonic might be good and say it's like...concentrated air pulses or something?
energy blast Recolored with orange and red(what my praetorian uses) looks alot like Solar-energy blasting, which would work for someone who takes to the skies often.
Magisterum- 50+3 Fortunata--Virtue
Lukerion- 33 Emp/Rad Defender--Virtue
Noah Heartily- 34 SS/SD brute- Virtue
Mika Heartily- 50+1 Fire/MM blaster-Virtue

It's not impossible to have a foreign character (for a great example, a resistance crusader fought for Italy during the Hamidon wars, and is Italian)
your character just has to be old enough,
I'd been wondering about this myself, and couldn't find any definitive answer.
Is Praetorian Earth wild Devouring Earth territory across the entire planet except for the one city in the US, or are there other little pockets of civilisation across the globe?
If its just Nova Praetoria and nothing else it seems a bit limiting, to say the least.
Then again, there's no reason that there has to be one true Praetoria, what with it being a parallel dimension.

There's no specific timeline, but the nations of the world didn't start nuking themselves (to fight off the DE) until "years" after the Korean War. This was supposed to have ended when MacArthur nuked things there, so we can put that date around early 1951. Also, it doesn't look like the nations dissolved until after Cole was named Emperor, which was at the end of the Hamidon Wars ("25 years ago"). That gives us a time frame of somewhere less than 35 years where everything was going to crap and yet Japan was probably still around barring a few smokey, glowing craters.
Moving on, we get this one particular line:
"25 years after being crowned Emperor of Earth, the nuclear wastelands of the world have returned to lush forests and farmland, cities have modernized, and the oceans have been cleansed of their pollutants."
So there ARE farmlands. And there ARE other cities. I wouldn't imagine them to be the pristine ideal of a utopia that Cole's capital is, but they do exist to some degree. We can pull the same from the text of two exploration badges: Airlift and Longshoreman.
Airlift: "Airplanes are the only way to reach some areas with necessary supplies and materiel. Most jets here are much faster than they look, and must fly far out over the ocean to avoid shattering every window in the Magisterium when they accelerate past mach."
Longshoreman: "Praetoria is perhaps the only exporter of high tech goods still standing since the rise of the Hamidon. From these docks thousands of tons of weapons, heavy equipment, and humanitarian supplies leave daily. The Imperial Defense Force provides escort security for the ships once they've left the safety of Neutropolis."
Those planes, ships, and supplies have to be going SOMEWHERE (other than Lambda...) so it's safe to assume that there's SOMEONE out there receiving it all.
...
tl;dr
You can find enough material out there to say that your character was Japanese and not even have to be into than its mid-30s agewise. The trick is to do your research.
Do we even know that Praetoria is IN America?
Also, those badge descriptions COULD be stories cooked up by Cole and fed to the people. I.E. they are the common understanding of what is going on, but may not be the truth. If you have done any of the Loyalist Power arcs you KNOW just how often TPN broadcasts crap that is totally not the real story.
I would say that the OP's "concept" is pretty far afield of what could really be happening at the present day... unless his character is like 53+.
Thanks for digging out that info, Gold.
By the sounds of it, there's plenty of scope for non-American Praetorians. My own group from an experimental outpost in Europe have little to fear from canon by the sounds of it.
I guess in many ways it doesn't matter. There are no nations as such anymore, has Cole established his capital on what used to be American soil?
Other than Cole and his Praetors being American, and Praetorian having some American/Western cultural bias, its really kind of a moot point.
In one of the Resistance arcs (on the Wardens' side, if I recall correctly) you have a chance to speak to an old homeless man in the sewer system that confirms that Praetoria was indeed built over what used to be America.
I've also seen some NPC text that mentioned something about rebuilding Tokyo, so Japan can't be a completely lost cause.
The Elysienne; Magical controller
Silent Sickle; Natural scrapper
And many more.
Aenigma Rebis: "Actually, Ely's more like Jean Grey. Only... smart."
Explain, "defected to the resistance," please. I think this concept would work better in a City of Heroes/villains atmosphere, versus a Praetorian setting, seeing as you know less about the canon in Praetoria than you would in City of Heroes. The world seems a lot more chaotic on the Praetorian-Earth side as far as Hamidon goes, among other things... who's to say there ever was an air force, or a japanese defense force?

Story Wise, defected could almost be any number of things. Perhaps even falling in love with a woman you thought was normal only to find out she was working with the Resistance and Cole had her murdered. Or slaughtering of a large group of innocent people outside the United States during a "peace negotiation ceremony".

I like the concept. I would make him a Energy/Devices or Energy/Traps. It just seems like since you cannot create missles from his arms I can see energy blasts like Iron Man.
