Casinos in CoX? Money Sinks Ahoy!
/signed. I think it would be a fun distraction.
And, as soon as they diverted development resources from more commonly asked for and appropriate things like power set proliferation, new power sets, costume pieces, content, and the like, everyone who realizes that it would be a significant amount of work for very little effort (as well as being nonsensical because inf doesn't actually represent money) would go up in arms.
It would be an interesting distraction, but, like many ideas that would simply be moderately entertaining distractions from the real game, I'm going to say no exclusively on the grounds that there are better things for the devs to spend their time on.

It struck me as an idea while wandering in the in-game casinos in St. Maritals.. why don't we have an actual casino-esque minigames?
Well I understand the possible implications with gambling acts, but assuming it's not real money being spent, and only infamy/influence it shouldn't be an issue... (so we can avoid the Second Life issue, and get it more akin to say.. Yohoho Puzzle Pirates).
Either way, the games could carry a number of badges, and be a downright awesome money sink (Afterall, the casino ALWAYS wins), and even opens itself up to a few missions. There's always competitive games too, such as poker.

And yes, I realize my idea is rather silly and a large amount of work. Not to mention it doesn't fit into the game's genre.. but hey, it gives a place for the Gambit wannabes too!

As long as there is no way to win influence/infamy, merits, tickets from playing the games no objection.
But only after the devs finish their other priorities first.

And why not? If it's purely luck-based, with the same risk of loss as real gambling, I think it would be perfectly fair to bet Inf in a casino. Maybe add a bet limit, but other than that it doesn't seem like a problem to me.
Perhaps you could trade Inf for chips, bet using the chips, and then trade in the chips for enhancements and micellanious trival doodads (I'd like one of those visor thingies dealers wear :P), but you cannot trade the chips back for Inf. Yes, it's MOAR CURRENCY! Just stick to DOs, SOs, and maybe common IO recipies. Trivial crap you could get anywhere, but you have a chance of getting it with less resources, and a new flavor of fun.
Frankly, I think it would be awesome, because it would turn the Golden Giza into the social hub it should be.

Well, mini-games would be fun, but there's a legal issue. Unfortunately, there's some one shortsighted enough to have made any form of online gambling, including ones that have no interaction with real cash, either illegal, or heavily fined. I'm talking even places like NeoPets had to pull their games, and they don't even have a monthly fee.

Mini games are one thing but any type of gambling opens the company up for all sorts of unnecessary legal headaches.

[/ QUOTE ] I don't see how that statement could be accurate. If so, Myspace and Facebook wouldn't be able to afford their poker games since the two companies can't seem to make money.
It's gotten to the point that we need distractions (casinoesque minigames) for our distractions (an MMO) from RL.*
IZE SKEERED, Mr Peabody. Hold me!
* RL simply inferred. If one needs this level of distraction; I would posit there is no real life and Douglas Adams is indeed the Deity Excarnate.

Are you talking like along the lines of the little mini game that have in EQ2 with the little goblin that gives you a ticket with two sets of numbers, the main at top and the numbers you get to roll over and over. Get a few of the numbers and you get little cash, get all of them and you get the big price, which if I remember right builds up over time depending on how long it's been from the last time someone won. (I could be wrong on that part, been a while)
Something like that I could see, ends up being a fair chance for anyone (until the number cruncher find out what makes it work ) , a big pot win could set a character for life, or get them threw a few levels of SOs
Me personally I would mind something like this, sometimes it's nice to have a little distraction from the main game.
I could see this being the next badge time-sink. Lovely.
I am kind of shocked that we don't have a badge by that name, now that I think about it

A badge named "time sink"?
That's . . . yeah why don't we? lol
I think the "payoff" badge for 1000 tickets comes close though. The "ebil" smiley face on it always makes me smile.
As an aside, /sign to this idea as long as it takes minor programming.
I would actually like an "uno-like" game stick in there somewhere.
Or perhaps use some of our earned gladiators in a YuGiOh type battle game?

Oh I know....
How about a mini-game where your characters take on the role of ordinary people in some place called "real life" where they spend hours at a time doing mundane tasks, like filing reports, flipping burgers, and cleaning ben pans. That way, we can play characters playing people living lives....
If you want to play gambling games, there are sites dedicated to that purpose. There is really nothing to be gained by adding it here, particularly if it interferes with moving other content forward. Any mini game has to be MMO related, and gambling just doesn't seem to fit the purpose of this MMO.
Further, because we now have a MA, you can design missions that offer you an opportunity to create "athletic" competions, which were the only mini games that really made any sense for this MMO.
