What would be useful for people to know? How to get from 20 million to 200? How to get from 0 to 20 million? Or do I have no real audience here?

Ha ha ha ha ha. I didn't think it was possible to have a one man circle jerk, but you just proved me wrong.
Fulmens' quest for knowledge has driven him to bravely go where no marketeer has gone before.

There are cases where people in community A complain, a lot, about problems that are known and solved in community B. (one common complaint is "things are too expensive.")
So I was, in fact, a guy with a solution looking to see if there was a problem that I could apply it to. Apparently there isn't.

Fulmens just got my vote for Royal High Chancellor of the Market Forum.
I found it interesting that the base community shared my off the cuff opinion that the inf>prestige exchange rate is too steep to be worthwhile.

i made 4 times 3 mill prestige for my SG... for nothing. what would that be?
12 billions?
Well they're talking 300k prestige to get a decent solo base going. That's 150m inf and I'm at 100 already. I don't think that's really all that much considering I earn like...3k prestige per day or something ridiculous like that at L27. That's 1.5m inf...I can marketeer 10 times that per day and have inf left over.
Seems to me that, although the exchange rate is ridiculous, it's a classic case of comparative advantage. I am so much more efficient at generating inf than prestige that even with the [censored] exchange rate, I'm still coming out ahead.
Maybe I should post this in the Base thread...but then again, trying to explain comparative advantage might make their heads explode.

You can give bases away?? o.O
Hmmm, maybe inf vs. prestige earning rates is one way to look at this. Ignoring my ebil marketeering income, I've probably made about 2.5 billion inf playing the game and selling drops. During the same period, it looks like I've earned almost exactly 8 million prestige. So my personal earning ratio is approximately 300:1 infrestige. Add in marketeering income, and suddenly it's more like 1000:1, and if I cared much about bases, it might be worth converting some of that unused inf to prestige.

I hardly use my Bases, they are useless, until one wanna keep his stuff without behing stolen.
Basically, SG's are like badges, or amount of 50s. its the player's system to challenge/beiing challenged.
All the trash about MA is about that, BTW.
How come someone would rate someone else on a fictionnal basis?
This is why the rage... but that is another story.

I was actually wondering about that when I read it. I feel like I'm on my way to becoming an ebil marketeer and I'm unable to fathom the...derision in which you're held by some other players. What did you guys do to them before I got here? lol
I dunno, but apparently I missed the memo.

Nothing. They (those kind of posters not all base builders) lump anyone who likes the market as a market manipulator and put their fingers in their ears (metaphorically) about any facts about the market and drops.
They (market haters) want the shiny IOs and haven't adjusted their pre-market inf values to the new reality. And here we are two years later and they still think a million is a lot of inf, 10 million is too much and 100 million is impossible.
total kick to the gut
This is like having Ra's Al Ghul show up at your birthday party.
You missed the memo? Yeah, it turns out that marketeering is evil and ruins the game for everyone else. If it wasn't for people like us with a basic grasp of economics, CoX would be a paradise of plenty. Shinies for everyone! Everyone's a winner! Here's your sticker! Yay, stickers!

When they Devs dropped base salvage and replaced it with invention salvage, for some reason the base builders were very upset, and blamed the ebil marketeers for making it happen. I'm not quite sure why they decieded it was our fault and not the Devs, but I'm assuming that the negitivity you see over there is a residual of that.

if they had to blame someone, they should have gone after the badgers- they were the big base salvage "manipulators" as I recall.

As a solo-base builder and casual (meaning whatever IOs drop i craft then sell and hold onto IOs necessary for two corrupter builds in the works, but use salvage for base-items) marketeer, that little excursion also got me thinking about just how much I pumped into my solo VG base. I believe if i never wasted time on the inf to prestige transfers (pre-base bumps) I could have been in the billionaire club 2, may 3 issues ago.
Imagine how much more money would be out there if the devs made the reverse. Imagine the sick amounts of excess inf flooding the markets as people trash their bases for cash!

Ahhh...that makes a lot of sense. I keep forgetting that the market wasn't in the game initially. Putting it in later will definitely influence (no pun intended) people's views of the whole thing.
I mean, every other MMO I've ever played has markets/AHs and I never see this level of derision for people who play the markets. But I guess it would make sense if this were the case.
