Dual Pistols? Demon Summoning?

Why?....................Just curious why these two this time. Was this a Dev decision with some input from the forums, or were these powers that had been planned on for some time?

I would have thought something more meeleeish, like street fighting or staff or something similar to that. Hmmm, must say, disappointed, but hoping for some power proliferation this year (fingers crossed, but not likely)

Dual pistols were defninitely really high on the often-requested sets. Other forms of summoning for the MM's have also been asked for... and at least this wasn't "clowns".

Sometimes they run very brief forum-only polls about what we'd like to see, among things that they think they'll be able to pull off. Shields were the first biggie there. Growth/shrinking and a couple other things (water powers... waaaater powers) have been talked about but not spoken of in terms of 'when' but 'if'.

Doesn't seem like there is a lot of impetus towards developing more melee options, other than through power proliferation. Is that accurate of me to say?

Positron has wanted to put Dual Pistols in the game for some time now, and a lot of players have been asking him to, so we were bound to see them sooner rather than later.

As for Demon Summoning, well, Masterminds only have five Primary Power Sets right now, which is the lowest number of any non-Epic Archetype.

There's plenty of melee Power Sets available. Some of the other types need to catch up, you know?

Edit: Shield Defense came out in Issue 13. It's not a melee Power Set, but it's only for melee Archetypes, due to the general melee+protection structure.

Dual pistols is being added because people have wanted it for a long time.

Demon summoning because masterminds need more primaries, and it seems like a good, classic feeling one.

There might be more truly new melee sets at some point, but melee players have received a ton of attention in the last few issues (dual blades, willpower, and shield defense all were added, plus there was proliferation). So the ranged people could use some love. I suspect next will be a new control set after that.

I am ok with the powers coming out now, but would like to see more variety on the melee side. The power sets hero side are pretty developed, now it is time to branch out. Question, some of the animations can be ported to active powers, for example, the light guys in the Hollows shoot light blasts, the stone guys(Terrible with names) shoot rock blasts and have molten stuff, so why not release these as well?

One last thing, are the Devs committed to let's say two new powers a year? Is there a set amount they would like to incorporate into the game, or are they added as the issues unfold? Just curious.......

At the end of the day, we all want as many powers as possible, we are power wh****, lol. I am just wondering what the criteria and the developement schedule if any that they put out.

I agree 100%. After pistols and demons are released, I'm betting the next control set will be Electricity, i would LOVE to play that set. After that, Im guessing streetfighting/staffs would be next on their list.

Besides, dual pistols would give me a reason to roll another blaster.

did i miss somewhere where it was said that these powers are being added?. i haven't seen any posts about it other then the many many dp and mm threads asking for it.

The signature characters in the Going Rogue vid are dual pistols and demon summoning (per the press release).

Plus Posi said something about them during the anniversary event while on the Euro servers.

the signature characters can not be used to assume what we will/won't be getting. and until a dev posts that the powers will be comming and when, we can not go around spouting rumors that the powers are being added to the game.

Positron very strongly hinted that Dual Pistols and Demon Summoning would be the next two sets released at the Anniversary Party in Pocket D.

The teasers for Going Rogue have all but confirmed it, in that they introduce two new iconic characters, Desdemona, a redeemed, Demon Summoning Mastermind, and Maelstrom, a pistol wielding former hero who fell from grace.

The same teasers have indicators that tag Going Rogue as connected to Issue 16. I would be surprised if the two new Powersets were gated to be exclusive to buyers of the expansion.

There is also a lot of buzz that we are getting power customization because the woman's fireball changes from red to blue.

please don't get this wrong but we all know what will happen if the powers that everyone want's don't come out with the "going rogue" expansion. i to would like to see DP and new MM set. i'm just not going to get all worked up incase they don't come out right away.

The expansion will be an add on at a cost, which I really don't have a fundamental problem with. If it's worth it, then it's money well spent.

So who could tell me what kind of commitment the Devs have to let's say powers, content, environments, costume pieces and so on....how do they determine what the content is going to be for future issues? Can someone point me in the right direction???????

Much as it pains this primarily-melee player to admit it, melee ATs HAVE received a lot of new sets lately, and have generally received more new sets historically. Aside from Powerset Proliferation, the last time I can think of the game getting new Blast sets was... I4? I5? When did Sonic Blast and Archery come through? Support sets got a new addition in the form of Pain Domination, but I cannot remember the last time we've gotten new Control sets, aside perhaps from CoV's launch, and did that bring anything other than Plant Control? Blasters did get a brand new Mastery in Psi Mastery, even though it was made up of existing powers, mostly.

I'd say that, the obvious need Masterminds have of a new set aside, a control and a Blast set are the primary things I'd say the game is due for. I mean, not even CoV brought us a new Blast set, and Psi Blast is hardly "new."

I'm hoping for a new melee set at some point, perhaps one that's more boxing (aka, the famous "street fighting") perhaps a staff-based powerset, perhaps an energy blade or even a TRUE two-handed greatsword, but for the moment, the most we can hope for is shuffling more powersets around still, like Broadsword for Brutes, Battle Axe and War Mace for Scrappers, maybe sharing Regeneration, maybe sharing Claws and so forth. I'm sure we'd get a massive outcry of hurt feelings if a new melee set were introduced next issue, mark my word.

I don't think we'll see new melee sets for awhile. Melee AT's don't need new sets, they need proliferation. There are plenty of Melee sets they just need to be rebalanced to suit the other melee AT's. If they can do that the list of what each melee at had available would be rather long.

Let's first get some stuff over to Scrappers before we go into new stuff. There's... Possibly too MANY melee sets as it is...
Spines, Ice Melee, Fire Melee, Stone Melee, Electric Melee, Energy Melee, Dark Melee, Katana/Ninja Blade, Broadsword, Dual Blades, Claws, War Mace, Battle Axe, Super Strength, Martial Arts, and... Am I missing any?

The point is that melee can do without a few new sets for awhile. Proliferation would be something much nicer at this point.
