Another one that was "never going to happen"

Things that are still on the "never going to happen" list:

* Raising the level cap
* Open PvP in all zones
* Merging servers
* 50-only content

Who knows, maybe all those S&I newbs will end up having the last laugh!

In your estimation, when will I be able to choose powers from any powerset in the game regardless of architype and without restriction as to the number I can dip into (a la Champions Online)? For an example less related to a rival franchise, when do you imagine the developers will cave in and admist that stamina is a requirement for 99% of player-characters and not an "option" and simply give it to us for free? Or on another tangent, when do you expect they will open a full, open-world PvP server?

[/ QUOTE ]

The first, a more freeform creation system, could happen in a new AT. Given what I've seen lately in the SoA and the changes to Doms that are coming, the devs don't seem to be as pathologically concerned about 'balance' anymore. So perhaps someday we'll see an AT or epic AT that allows freeform building. Do I think it's likely? Don't know honestly, but I'll never rule it out.

As for Stamina, depending on how Champions and DCUO handle power issues, that could happen sooner than we all expect. That's a much better example, because I could say that same thing about MoG back in the day. People, including me, had lost hope that that power would get changed. It did, it's glorious, and it proved to me yet again, "Never say never."

The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.

Hell, I think the 50-only content is coming as an alternative to raising the level cap. I don't know that that's on the list at all.

You sure we won't be able to enter Praetorian Atlas as a brute and shift over after running to the new portal corp building there at level 1?

[/ QUOTE ]

Pretty sure. I'm guessing you'll have to run the Praetoria missions and make "choices" that affect your alignment. Only once you've moved your alignment to the appropriate heroic or good level, only then will you be able to enter blueside.

But if you can go from Mercy directly into Praetoria, and go Good by lvl 5, effectively it's the same thing as rolling a Brute blue-side directly.

Which you should be able to do. There is no reason why I can't roll up a villain blaster or a hero brute.

How's that going to work, will keep our heroic badges if we go to villain side? I want to go red side, get all the badges I can and the swap back.

[/ QUOTE ]The badge will swap to it's other-side counterpart. For example, if you've got a Villain with the "Villain" badge, and switch to heroes, the badge will change to "Reformed".

The reason is because both Villain and Reformed are actually the same badge. The game just checks your hero/villain flag to decide what text and image to display.

But you won't be able to do. GR is an expansion, and you must have COH/COV to play it. Meaning the same game systems are in effect as now, except there's an expansion that allows you to modify your alignment =after= you've created your characters.

<QR>

I've seen several suggestions meet with the response that boils down to, "We'd like to do this, but we just don't have the resources right now," or "It's on the back burner," or "This would be really complicated, something we're not really looking at doing right now." A lot of people take this as a firm no. For most practical purposes, that's probably a good idea.

I mean, think about it. If four years ago one of the devs had said something like, "Yes, we'd like to do this, and eventually we'll allow it," the standards response on the forums would be to assume that it's in the immediate future. For years afterwards, until it's actually done, people would be pestering them with, "You said it was coming! Where is it!!?" Such is human nature.

At any rate, I can imagine several other projects that I think people have assumed are vaporware that might see the light of day. The City Vault, the Cathedral of Pain, power customization, just to name a few. But really, some folks really need to understand the concept of "when we get around to it."

Personally I think that some folks are even getting too worked up about the Going Rogue expansion, expecting it to be out around the same time or soon after Issue 15. I think that's not very likely, and the real time frame will be more along the lines of June or July 2010.

We've been saving Paragon City for eight and a half years. It's time to do it one more time.

[/ QUOTE ]It's possible for an expansion to modify your character creation options. For example, when CoV first came out, people who only had CoH or only had CoV were never given the popup to choose Hero/Villain, and had fewer character slots. People without CoV couldn't enter SG bases. You could also look at Guild Wars and its expansions, though that's starting to stray into foreign territory of another developer.

OPINION ALERT!

Personally, I think the devs realize once CO comes out, there will be a lot of people that go to check it out... I'll probably be one of them. (It will have to absolutely blow my socks off for me to drop CoH and switch to CO, and I hope I'm objective enough to be able to realize that, but that's a different discussion.)

They want to have something to draw back the people that haven't already come back and are on the fence... maybe even some that are leaning towards the competition. Ideally it would have to come out by September, but to have it out by the end of the year would still work...

Then again, a Halloween-ish release would mean it's still "New" for Black Friday.

[/ QUOTE ]I imagine you'd keep the badge (The badge[censored] community would probably have Positron for lunch if it were otherwise), though I don't know what they'll do about the accolade power. If I had to guess (and I do), I'd say you'll keep the power, but you won't get a second power if you get the other-side equivalent of the accolade (eg: if you're a Hero with Task Force Commander, swapping to villain you'll still have +5% HP, but getting Invader wont' get you another +5%)

I would imagine that the alignment system won't be soley part of the expansion. The system itself will probably be part of the issue that goes live with the expansion and the expansion will consist of Preatoria and everything associated with that. New ATs may be part of the expansion only as well, but who knows though. But, opening up all ATs to both sides has nothing to with switching sides and there is no reason why they can't do that now.

EDIT: And what F_W said. The expansion could also open all ATs to both sides for those that purchase the expansion.
