May Fan Art Battle
I loooooves that.
But I have a question. OK, when the crap did it become a BAD thing to use reference, or are people assuming reference means you traced it? Honestly, if you never look at what you're learning to draw/paint/sketch/whatever.... exactly how are you going to know what it looks like?
I have to take Basic Photography as a requirement for graduation for my Illustration degree. Why? Because artists should learn how to work a camera to shoot their references. If I was doing a piece with like... a neat forest in the twilight in the background, you can bet I'd go down to the nature trails at the local park at dusk so I could know what I'm working with....
Sorry for ranting (and this is NOTHING against LD's piece because it wins at life), but I'm seeing this "no reference used" as a badge of honor lately, and I just don't get it.
Wow, Lousy Day, that's fantastic!
Wassy, I think you misunderstood. I couldn't paint clouds before this month. I spent last couple of weeks doing cloud studies from photo references, and it got me to where I was able to paint not bad looking clouds without using references, and I was proud of that fact.
BTW, my May folder on my hard drive has over 50 pictures of clouds.

I think your clouds came out really great. I just get worried when people start thinking the use of reference is bad (Adam Hughes has had a fine rant or two about this as well). But drawing without looking isn't what makes your work so special, its the great use of colors and the personal spin you're putting into the piece. AND the fact that you put the effort into doing the studies and gathering all the references. So I would wear the work you did looking at the real thing and painting it with beautiful results as the real badge of honor ^.^
I commented on DA but I just wanted to add to my *jaw drop* that I handn't seen ... hmm .. the Norse version of Zeus? (or the Thor's dad?) there at first ... that is even cooler!

And the best part! TA is dressed!
well, dang
Okay, here's roughs of my piece, in case I don't get to at least colour it: Maiden Light Comics #1!
It's updated with cleaner art and colours.
I'd work on it more, but I should probably spend my time working on commissions. I think that's what my Skinvitationalists would prefer!
Shia where are you your gonna miss the deadline !!

I did finish it today!
Origin of Power featuring Thors Assassin and Lousy Day. Unfortunately for me, Juggertha and I had very similar ideas and he finished his first. I thought about doing something else, but decided to do what I was going to do because:
1) If I switched to another classic painting and someone else finished first using that piece, would I have to keep changing my source? No.
2) Would I expect someone to use another classic if they used the same one and I finished mine first? No.
I could not substitute the characters either, because the whole concept was about Lousy Day handing over the nemesis staff to TA.
Here's the Michelangelo painting.

The night of the 25th. Pacific standard time. That would be 3am Eastern.

Awesome stuff man - I'm glad ya didn't back down off of it.
Warning: 35 hours 45 minutes
Stupid cold almost made me miss this.
My entry is inspired from walking (I wish we could, oh well; not super-speeding) through Port Oakes. On the edge of Marconiville near the harbor and Oil Spill there is this closed down diner . When the evening comes, light starts to spill through the boards. I wonder what kind of shady activities goes on in there? But most of all I wonder what it once looked like in it's heyday, hence I present:Nighthawks - CoV style
The Edward Hopper original Nighthawks
*thinks we need to have more emoticons for the forums*
I cannot express the sense of 'Wow' I get from that piece...utterly impossible
Holy Crap! I love that painting, and your recreation CoX style is sheer amazing!

I absolutely love that. The tiny little change to make it CoV I think fits the theme perfectly.
Tremendous job!

Indeed. That is truly awesome!
Here's my entry: Nymphs and Artist
I chose William Bouguereau's Nymphes et Satyre. You can see the original via a link in the artist comments, as it has nudity in it, so two link rule!
With so many choices to pick from it took a while to settle on this piece, but I feel it captures the allure of the game and how it sometimes pulls me away from my art, luckily it also inspires me to create art as well.
These lovely nymphs are my characters, going clockwise, PyroMindi, Sapphire Rayne, Radioactive Ruby and Anna Freeze.
Background is a screenshot from the game of Atlas Park
Nice one Imagesbyalex! Very cool intigration of artist and nymph
Here's my submission;

Original also in the details, but I tried to use DeVinci's Last Supper, because the chance to do something vaguely sacreligious isnt something I'd ever pass up.
