Consolidated list of concerns: MA effects on game

I started snickering at this:
[ QUOTE ]
- Forming non-MA teams is incredibly hard to do at the moment.
[/ QUOTE ]
and started laughing outright at this:
[ QUOTE ]
- The existence of so many "Meow-50s" is really bothersome at higher levels as experienced teams must either tutor these inexperienced players, or the inexperienced players can make the difficult, higher level game content even more difficult by making "newbie" mistkes.
[/ QUOTE ]
Emphasis added to point out what was so funny.
[/ QUOTE ]
Don't forget "much of the game content requires teaming to complete successfully". I...don't even know where to begin on that one.
[/ QUOTE ]
Lemme know how that solo STF, RSF, LGTF, ITF, Eden Trial, and the solo Shadow Shard TFs go, k?
You know the funny part is I actually don't MIND farming, and have a farming toon for occassional use, but still see some of the concerns others are pointing out about the effects that MA have had as valid things for the devs to consider. Consolidating them in one post was an attempt to take them out of the "DOOOOMM!!!" category and into the "Ok, how much of this is real and how can we make everyone happy" category. Which is why the initial post asked this this NOT become a debate-based thread, but instead a perception based thread on concerns people have.
Instead we ended up with "quit picking on us farmers cuz w3r leetz and none of your worries are even worth reading noob!!! lolozzzzlzol1111!!!!!1!1!"
[/ QUOTE ]
One of the SS TFs is soloable, actually, and I wasn't aware that 8 missions in the game explicitly designated as team content constitutes 'much of the game content'. Heck, even if you throw every task force and trial into the mix, it is still only a tiny amount of the total content, and, if you want to split hairs, most of those have been soloed, too, by most ATs, even.
Grossly exaggerating the problems to the point of ridiculousness isn't going to help your cause. You're screaming 'doom' at problems that don't even exist. End game content is easier than early content if anything, most of the game can be soloed, and market prices are actually hitting a level where recipes are affordable to the common player, creating a more level playing field. If you can't find groups, try joining a super group or making a few friends - I've never had a problem getting a team, not before MA, not after. You're creating shadows to jump at out of absolutely nothing.

Economics
- the rate at which tickets drop has made once valuable items drop drastically in value.
- the market is becoming "worthless" as there are now two alternative, often much less expensive, ways to attain the rare items people need.

I agree about the Meow-50s. But this... this isn't a problem for me. I am not a marketeer, I don't play the market to exploit others. I am grateful for this change. I am excited, exhuberant, overwhelmingly in favor of this change.
Thank you, thank you, thank you devs for looking after the little guy. We can now support our characters, our alts, our SGs.
The marketeers can trade purples amongst themselves.

I consider myself a marketeer and I love this change. Its better in the long run for having more customers if the prices are something the little guy can afford to pay me.

But that's just it.....this comes from farmers as well. Farmers generate the lionshare of market supply. Without powergamers maxing tickets or merits...where does the supply get made up from? Don't tell me content either. Content cannot even come close to matching speed runs for material generation. It is kind of like the difference between hand crafted and mass production. A hand crafted product may or not be of better quality, but mass production can do it faster, with fewer resources, cheaper, with less training. You may not like it, but you don't want to live without it either. Farming is a needed part of every MMO economy. For some, playing the economy is the real game in and of itself. Market PvP is the onlything that has kept the game interesting to alot of people for an issue or two now.

In fact. My biggest concern is actually with the people who claim the market was ruined.
How on earth is low prices the market ruined. Do they not understand basic economics of supply and demand?

Anyone who has even a "basic" understanding of Deflation knows that it actually HURTS the "have nots" and benefits the "haves."
[/ QUOTE ]
this implies the have nots have no way of becoming the haves.
Hint: it costs the same amount of tickets for a farmer to roll for a recipe as it does joe q newbie who just either did a farm or did a couple arcs with friends. Chances are he might get one of the chase recipes. chances are said recipe could translate into the money to buy what he needs.
Deflation only hurts the have nots supposing they have no way of generating cash at all, which in coH is so vastly false that anyone who thinks it is incorrect, wrong, and deluded.
In a market like COH, the only way to be a completely have not is to be too lazy to make any sort of effort.
also. if you honestly think nobody is doing TFs and mothership/hami, you either have no global channels, no friends, and no clue about your server, or you play on Freedom.

wow...something we agree on 100%. I dont even bother to feed money to my lowbies for the most part...just sell the 2 lvl 1 to's they give you and go from there
Lots of 50's yada yada. still finding fun things to do.

You are in a maze of twisty little passages
If other players aren't playing the way you want to play for the most part, then I suggest you hang out in the forum for your server of choice and recruit allies there. Or, you can build up a nice big friends list as you meet the occasional player in the game who does want to play your way.
I still mostly play the standard content, but I solo, so I won't be teaming with you either. Also, I like the idea of things becoming less expensive than what the market offered, so I have no sympathy for a collapsed market.

You guys honestly care about the noobs that play this game? If they were willing to learn to play the game in the first place, they wouldn't be involving themselves in farming from the get go.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes we do. New players = money for the game and more people to play the game with. We don't want to run them off, or give them a false sense of the game mechanics, lest they get disgusted and go elsewhere. CoH != WoW or other games, where apparently it's all the rage to deprecate the new players.
And they're new, how would they know? Imagine the first day you picked the game up, would YOU have known?
Yanno what? this is beyond disgusting. I'm not talking about the farming itself. I'm talking about the crusades on the forums that are steamrolling valid posts.
"City of Heroes. April 27, 2004 - August 31, 2012. Obliterated not with a weapon of mass destruction, not by an all-powerful supervillain... but by a cold-hearted and cowardly corporate suck-up."
It's a game. Get over it.

I'm concerned that the market is making money come too easy now. Used to be, when I had a toon hit 10th to 12th level, I'd spend 15 minutes or so to raise a couple hundred thousand so I could buy whatever low-level sets I wanted for him.
And I'm not a marketeer, spending that much time is often a chore for me, spending more is impossible.
Since AE came out, the markets have made all those lowbies I've run through AE missions (and I don't farm, I look for story-based missions) into millionaires without spending any more time in the market than it takes to post my crafted bronze roll recipe.
So, obviously, our concerns cancel each other out and you may as well erase it from your list.

I find I care less about the existence of these farms and spend more and more time having bizarre fantasies about slowly choking the life from the person who came up with such an irritatingly stupid name.
