Two of my latest pieces; Sureshot-X and Mindswipe (but if you see him in game, hold off talking about this pic - I'm not sure if he's received it yet).

wow they are..I didn't even notice

Thunder is good, thunder is impressive, but lightning does the work.

Yeah, they are... as someone who loves archery (real thing, not powerset) it really stood out. Then again, I don't know how many people shoot 4 arrows at a time.

Also, only the rearmost string in a compound bow is drawn (see here partway down the page.)

I love the old and well-read texture you used for the comic cover. Very sweet.

But yes, I also noticed the arrow thing straight off. This is mostly because the only time I ever did archery in highschool I got the fake plastic feather things lodged into my skin so.... hard to forget which side that was on... *twinges*

That s hilarious. I too have been into archery for awhile... and I totally missed this.

Ah well, chalk it up to a super power.

you should definately put that one in a protective sleeve wouldn't want something so valuable to get destroyed

Please note that the arrows are on the wrong side of the bow pretty often in the game as well, so he could just be going for accuracy.
see?

And to make matters even worse... he's not quite wrong:

It depends on the bow which side the arrows rest on before firing.

Umm.. actually... I'm finding it difficult to find a picture of any bow, long or compound, that notches on the right side of the bow.

This one might be:

This one is definitely on the right side:

He is not wrong at all the arrow goes on the same side of the bow as your arm. There are a couple of reasons for this. First off before bows had arrow rests you would support it with your hand. Second the natural tendency is to tilt the bow slightly away from the body. If the arrow is on the outside when this happens it will either fall off the rest or fly off to the right of where you want it to go.

That is a left handed bow. The kid is holding it in the wrong hand. Do not hire these people to teach your kids archery.

Edited to add: Awsome pics Juggs!

Sure today is the first day of the rest of your life. But so was yesterday. And look how that turned out.

Cool. Learn something new every day. So arrow should be notched on the same side as the bracing arm, not the drawing arm?

Correct.

Ahhh, I bet the only difference is with accuracy. Which I doubt a buncha kids would even notice.

This thread DID manage to make me want to go out and get a new bow, however.

So that's a good thing.

<Wanders into a thread about which side arrows should be on>

Fantastic work Juggy! Can't even express how happy (and surprised!) I am over the piece! Outta-the-park as far as I'm concerned! Pfft .. arrows indeed!

Heh, I was looking at the arts and thinking..."no, it's not incorrect..." Glad it got figured out before I had to go do a bunch of research myself. :P

Yes, the arrow should rest right across the knuckles of the hand holding the bow. One way to become aware of this is to have the fletching cut your knuckle as the arrow flies -- there's a reason for archery gloves. (painful memories) Speaking of painful...uh...memories, I dig that chest guard Billz found:

Very hip.

One reason to rest the arrow on the knuckle side of the bow is Archer's Paradox:

Another is so you can tilt the bow like Legolas while surveying your targets -- without having the arrow fall off (that's a major embarrassment in Elfwood).

When I was reading this thread I started going back through all the elf stuffs I read back as a kid and started checking the pictures to see which sides the arrows were, they're all on bracing arm side as far as I could tell.

And yet another lesson on how comics and games are not real.
