Redside Costume Contests (Need People!)
A couple months ago I did a "Lowbies Only" CC in front of Kalida on Mercy Island. Got a decent turnout and gave away about 8-10 million in prizes, which I've been working to earn back since then.
I've also been a contestant in three redside CC in the past 6 months or so, garning one 1st place and one 3rd place (4th really, but the 3rd place winner ran away before they collected their prize, so it was given to me instead).
I'm glad to hear that you have decided to have your contest in the evening, and make it public. Since we don't have an AP redside where people can go to see if there's a CC, this is probably the best wy to get the word out.
Of the three CC's I've been in redside - two were in the courtyard near the middle of MI, where the fateweaver stands, and the other was in front of Kalinda. Near the BM in Cap seems like it would be a good place, but you might not get many lowbies. Your call, but I think establishing a regular location that people can begin to associate with CC is good idea.
I certainly wouldn't be opposed to contributing some inf or other goodies to the prize pool from time to time, but I won't be able to do so often since I only have 1 "rich" villain, and she only has about 42-million inf.

Oh, I would be ever so happy if there were costume contests on redside! I only play villains on the Virtue server and I feel very deprived (snif).
I would be happy to help host a few and to shell out a bit of cash, if I'm allowed to just join in on some of them as well
I've only ever seen one costume contest on Virtue, and that makes me sad :| I hope I don't miss the next you host.
Yeah, I've only ever seen one CC on Virtue (For which I won second prize). I've seen tons of them on Heroes, but just that one on Villains. And since I play Villains pretty much exclusively....Yep, totally sucks.
Regular CCs redside would be awesome. And Cap (despite how much I hate the lag) is the most populated zone usually, so it's pretty comparable to Atlas. I think the middle of Aeon City is a good location. Easy to find and less laggy than the BM area.
The off-beat space pirate...Capt. Stormrider (50+3 Elec/Storm Science Corruptor)
The mysterious Djinn...Emerald Dervish (50+1 DB/DA Magic Stalker)
The psychotic inventor...Dollmaster (50 Bot/FF Tech Mastermind)
Virtue Forever.

As far as population goes, Cap seems to be the "Atlas" of redside. It has everything, including transportation to EVERY other zone (even PO, Mercy, RWZ, and Cim), a market, university, and AE building. There are a lot of people there most of the time.
I would do it in Mercy, but it seems like such an out-of-the-way place. Odd, considering Atlas is sort of the same. Yet, people always cruise over to Atlas to hang out. But redside, I always find myself in Cap.
I'm going to try to shoot for a CC tonight around 10:30 central time. 8:30 PST, 11:30 EST. I'll be giving out 5/2.5/1 unless someone wants to donate more. Everyone's welcome to show up to participate or hold your own CCs afterward.

Just finished today's!
Had a REALLY good turnout. Much more than I had the other day.
Everyone who showed up.
My friend and I ended up picking all girls this time around. Not always the case. My whims vary. Last time I picked a lot of magic set users. Just sort of depends on my mood. We had a lot of good entries though. Was hard to pick just a few. I always announce up to 3 winners, but tend to end up picking a 4th or even 5th as runners up.
Prizes were:
1st: 5m + full costume salvage set (or +1m; set was chosen)
2nd: 2.5m
3rd: 1m
Runner Up: 500k (1 was picked)
Runner up: Operative DeWinter. DeWinter had a cute outfit that I liked that has a ringmaster quality to it. A friend of mine has a ringmaster outfit too.
Third place: Riika. My friend picked Riika, but I like the outfit too. I forgot to snag the on-screen text for this one, so: "Riika! Good use of colors, and a snazzy outfit. I like the robo 2 arm option. =)" Good mix of a variety of different sets to make one unique outfit.
Second place: Oksana Petrova. Darn communists! Nice outfit though. Simple and effective. Like I mentioned in the screenshot, she makes me think of War Witch, who is probably my favorite NPC costume for a hero.
First place: Symeta. Very nice tech costume that I enjoy. Has a simple quality to it, mixing 3 colors rather well and doing a lot with just a few parts. I tend to gravitate toward people who can do tech and robot outfits, because I can't.
Thanks to all who came, and I look forward to the next one. For the next CC, I'm thinking Friday night. Any thoughts or objections? And I'm still looking for people who can help judge or contribute cash to the next one.

Nice turn-out! I'm going out of town for the weekend starting Friday night so I won't be able to participate in your next one, but if you do one next week that meshes with my schedule, I'll definitely contribute to the judging and the prize pool if you like.

I'd be willing to donate to the cause o.o
It does lead to that inevitable question, can a male toon ever win a costume contest?
Heroes : Angrem (50 Stone tank), Exo Inferis (50 Fire blaster), Exo Proteus (50 ill/emp), IceVengance (50 cold defender)
Villains : AtomBomb (50 Rad/Kin corruptor), Aleks (50 SS/Inv brute), StoneLethal (50 EM/Stone brute), Davroz (50 Bots/Dark mastermind)

All the CCs I've ever seen had male winners, so...Yeah.

After I did the CC, I ran into someone that had a costume I would've given first prize to. His name was Generic Crab AT, and he looked like a giant... crab. Crab spider, all red, with the really big steampunk hands and the really tiny insect legs. Hilariously cool.

*bump*
It's Friday, but I have some things going on today. I'm thinking of shooting for Sunday night for the next CC. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Today's results!
Everyone who showed up.
We had a good showing today. And we had too many good costumes to pick just 3. So we had two runner ups.
1st: 5m
2nd: 2.5m
3rd: 1m
Runner ups: 500k (two were picked)
Runner up 1: Cheranne. Good mix of costume parts for a rather unique look. I see Valkyrie, Magic, winter, salvage wings, and a couple more parts in there.
Runner up 2: Novarift. Great outfit, and great use of colors. It's a good evil outfit, and you don't see purple on guys very often. Sort of reminds me of a Void Hunter, in a good way. =)
Third place: Discard. Hard to see in the pic but he had a spade on his chest. Great outfit. One of the only good uses of the 50/50 mask I've seen.
Second place: Antistate. Evil Statesman... meets Mexican wrestler! I like the horns especially, but it's a great take on Statesman with enough extra flair to be unique.
First place: Generic Crab AT. I said before that I'd give him first place, and I did! He has a hilariously good outfit. Just see for yourself!
Good showing this time. Getting a lot of positive in-game feedback. Hopefully we'll be able to do this more. Right now my goal is to do it again next Friday. Maybe a little earlier if possible.

LOL @ Crab's tiny legs!!
I'd be willing to get on this Costume Contest Holding thingy. Why not form a private global channel for redsiders who wanna run costume contests, then broadcast over VU2008 and other global channels like that to get people to show up?

Oh noes...Here on redside, I thought I was finally free of ye cursed costume contest...but nooooooo.

I held a CC under Atlas recently, but with a slight twist: the characters had to be lowbies (1-15), and a bio was not only required, but was considered to be part of the costume. MAN did it go well.
I'll say one thing: creating backgrounds for villains is harder than creating those for heroes, but you do tend to get more drama into character on the red side, which I like. Hopefully all CCs should include bios as a part of the judging, because on Virtue, story is what we're here for.

I got home late last night and was wiped out, otherwise I would've jumped on and helped with the CC (or entered it, I'm not sure). If the next one meshes with my schedule, I will certainly be there.
Also, I'm all for a biography contest, or at least a CC in which the bio is an important consideration.

I won my very first CC the other day, and it was on Redside. They are definitely popping up more and more.

Off the Wire:
The Villianous League of Extraordinarily Evil Evil Villains, a small, nondescript VG on the Virtue server, recently donated $20 million worth of Infamous Reputation to the principal perpetrator of Virtue's Costume Contests.
Corruptor Sight Beyond Sight, along with group leader Hauputmann von Doom, a mastermind, and Memknok, a demonic brute, invite everyone to take part in the villian Dispari's contests.
The League hopes the next contest will happen soon. In unrelated news, this newsreporter isn't wearing any pants. Officials said that was strange, as there was no desk to sit behind, and the local Cub Scout troop are now in therapy.
So, it's Wednesday. I'm planning the next one for Friday night at 9:00 PM CST. I do different times to catch people who might miss out.
As Recon mentioned, 20m was donated. Right now we're looking into doing two different 5/2.5/1s, one for male and one for female costumes. So feel free to stop on by!

Today's CC starts in an hour. Will be giving out 5/2.5/1 prizes for both male and female (so at least 3 winners of each). Be there or be square!

WHERRRREEEE
(V)Thomas Peterson -- The Plain Walker(H)
So, one thing I hate is that redside doesn't have an "Atlas Park" and doesn't have costume contests. Up until recently I'd only seen ONE costume contest on redside (which I won, heh).
Since my widow is all decked out besides some stuff I'm going to get with merits, I figured I'd spend some cash and do a CC. I gathered everyone in Cap and gave out prizes. I got a lot of praise and comments like "This is the (number less than 3) CC I've seen redside." The next day, I hear someone saying "Did you hear they do CCs redside now? They have them in Cap." Wait, I did that! That was me!
So now I have some cash again. I was going to do another CC earlier but the mapserver wasn't being very friendly. I postponed until later tonight. Then I thought, why not make it more public?
I'm willing to shell out 10/5/2.5m or 5/2.5/1m at least once a week to host CCs redside. Anyone else want to join in the fun? We could set dates and times, or even have multiple CCs, or pool money for really big prize CCs. We can do bio contests or even themed CCs. And of course anyone who wants to is welcome to come just to join in as a participant.
I'd like to make CCs more common redside!
