Night Widow critique

I would like to get the opinions of you boardfolk regarding my current Night Widow build. So far she is up to level 28 and the end result once she hits 50 will look as such. I don't use level 50 IOs or purples and I always go with level 40 IOs since they give the perfect balance.

I know most people don't take Smoke Grenade, but due to me sticking to the Night Widow code I just had to have it

What's with all the ranged defense? You should prioritize Melee>AoE>>Ranged.

Personally, I would fit Spin in there too. It's nice to have the extra AoE. Other than those two quibbles, it looks like a decent build.

The ranged is just a result of the IO sets I happened to use. I love the Red Fortune set and Thunderstrike so it just happened that I ended up having more ranged. I know what I should prioritize, but it just happened to work out the way it did. I was going to use Touch of Death's but they are more expensive on CoV than H and I don't feel like paying the current price.

Umm... no.

Ranged > Melee > AoE

AoE specifically, is pretty much useless.

Its rather simple, Widows can cap Melee Defence with what they have without set bonuses, but ranged and AOE is a diffrent Animal. Their are far more ranged attacks than AOE so Ranged makes sense.

I actually decided I didn't like that build and ended up coming up with a different build which has 49% melee and ranged defense, 41% area of effect, and perma Mind Link which overlaps for 10 seconds. I didn't bother going for perma-Hasten because my global base recharge is 58% and I figured that was good enough.

I am torn between Gloom and Mental Blast though. I took Mental Blast at 41 just because I want to make sure I have all the Night Widow powers that the NPC would typically have, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE Gloom. Gloom does a lot more damage and is one of the lesser resisted damage types like psi, but a Night Widow wouldn't have Gloom so that is my dilemma.

A Nightwidow with the bravado to put themselves on the destined one's list might have Gloom. After all, Ghost Widow has been known to teach her secrets to those she finds worthy (Veluta Lunata, anyone?).

Really? I have only ever done Venuta as a contact I haven't seen her in a fight.

Knowing that I have a reason to get Gloom now. That is one of my favorite powers on the game.

She hasn't been in combats that I know of, but Ghost Widow did show her how to bind a spirit to herself...

Yeah I remember reading that, but I never assumed that should would know Soul Storm or Gloom, etc.

You'll have to decide: follow the "I must RP it build"
or not worry about it as any change can also be RPed
and just enjoy a fun build that uses powers you like.

Personly less I'm being RP evaluated (aka like a never
winter nights server that has RP XP) I'd just do what is
fun, the fact you so like it should make it a no brainer.

also whats with the pink writing, I love the color myself
but it just looks awful on the blue background, and I can't
imagine it would would be much better on red (infact I would
venture to say it would be worse)

How would I know it pissed people off? In all my years on here no one has ever said anything about it until now.

Never the less I like pink and don't really pay much attention to the background color.

Hey Novella,
Could you by any chance post your build using Mids?

Posted

Here is the Night Widow build that I use. The build is ridiculously effective for how I play.

49.8% melee defense
49.3% ranged defense
40.6% area of effect defense
58.3% global recharge
55% global accuracy
46.5% damage buff (30% from both Assault powers)

The build uses only 1 Luck of the Gambler 7.5% but there is room for more if you wanted to use them. There are no purples used in this build because I don't see the point, but again they could be used if need be.

I used Mask Presence and the Celerity +Stealth to give her the same Hide as a Stalker which makes using Spin lovely in a group of enemies.

Quick question for you:

How much do you notice the 15% damage buff from assault? If you switch it out for Maneuvers you softcap your build.

And then if you want to get very expensive you could drop elude, franekn slot mind link for def/rec and pick up assault (while dropping Maneuvers....end cost could be bad though....(Defenses are way to high and different enhancements may be worth looking at).
