Keeping a 5 star rating?

Why no feedback on low ratings?

A friend and I were grinding out one-mission arcs last night, trying to get the Escapist badge. We ran a LOT of really, really horrible, stupid, poorly written, or just boring arcs. We handed out some 2's, 3's, one or two 5's, mostly 1's.

Very rarely did I give feedback, thoguh, because I fear retribution. Many of the arcs we did were clearly 15 minute efforts by 12 year olds and I didn't want backlash voting against my arcs if I pointed out that I didn't enjoy the arc and why.

I mean, is there anything constructive you can say about a mission where you have to go murder prostitutes because they're "nasty"? c.c

[/ QUOTE ]

Truth. I have run missions with a description of 11 or that turned out to be farms (often bad farms). Unless they label them (and use at least the basic principles of the English Language so it is readable).

If they have obviously spent no time on a mission other than designing new mobs (everyone likes their new mob groups myself included lol) then I don't see the point in sending feedback. There's no mission in my mission isn't constructive.

Another reason is you you rate someone poorly and tell them what to do, they may rate all of your missions as zeros. (happened to someone online) So why stick your neck out?

Personally I don't 4 star missions for this this reason. If mission is flat but shows effort 3 starts and comment. Anything below 3 and no nothing usually, I'm afraid of reprisals.

A combination of pain in the butt griefing and some people living in mortal fear of their global being visible and getting one-starred in return.

Bingo. Rating anything less than 5 stars and providing feedback risks that player 1-starring you just because they're a jerk without their even playing your arc.

Apparently there is a way to keep a 5 star rating. Just add the string "JSNTS" into your arc description. Go ahead and search on that.

[/ QUOTE ]

Saw that yesterday. The ones with more votes don't have 5 star ratings. There's just so much your SG can do to keep your rating up.

(I assume this is what is happening with those missions.)

I think part of the problem with farms being harder to identify now is that the devs/mods/GMs are banning/unpublishing farms. In fact, a red name came onto one of our more popular channels to vent about farms.

He basically said, why are you people putting farms in your arcs and publishing them? And then he said that putting 'not a farm' in your farming arc isn't fooling anyone, especially them. I'm not going to go into the responses to those posts here, just to let you know that farms aren't viewed in any good light by (one of) the devs.

Since farms are being hit with a hammer, the only option they have is to hide amongst the regular folk. I'm not saying whether farming is good/fun/legal, it's just what is happening right now.

Not sure how helpful that is for them to do that. If they aren't wanting farms, they need to post it where people will see it. But, I don't expect to see that post, because it would raise more questions than they are likely prepared to answer. Such as, "where is the line between challenge and farm?" and "do you consider the current dev content acceptable 'non-farm' missions?" Its such a subjective term that I don't envy them attempting to define it, but if they don't take a shot at providing their version of a definition, its hard to accept complaints that player content is exceeeding their desired limits.

I just wish they would tell us now and get it out of the way rather than waiting a year or two and then hitting us with Mission Diversification

A 4 is very, very good.

[/ QUOTE ]
I agree. But under the criteria the Devs have set for obtaining more publishing slots, a 4 is "not good enough." (Not to mention sorting/visibility issues in the current implementation of the browser.)

Still waiting for an announcement of alternate means.

4 stars may be very, very good, but it only at best puts your arc on page 200+ which frankly sucks. If you are up somewhere in the first few pages you can get 50 plays in an hour. Once you sink to the 4 star "basement" you will be lucky to get that in a few weeks.

Just trying to provide feedback if not positive and glowing can lead to nasty interaction. Forget about 5 star ratings and 1 star griefing. Why bother if all you're gonna get is grief for it anyway.

But what do I know except cream rises and everything else just settles...

Uh.

Thats odd.

I mean. My arcs been 4 starred for about a week now and its up to 122 plays. and I just got the illustrious badge last night.

:P

I think 4 star arcs are seeing a lot of play.

I am guessing you promoting your arc and not just letting it sit there and wait for random plays (since you care about the badges). That is apples and oranges. If you work, i.e. promote, trade plays. etc. a 122 plays is not out of the question.

This past weekend I had an arc hit page 1 right before I went to dinner. I got 55 plays in about a HOUR while I was offline eating.

the one time I hit page one I got 3 plays and then got viciously 1starred into the 4 star range..so..YMMV :P

On the other hand, they want you to know if they gave you a 5 star, cause they hope you will return the favor.

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't return the favor, as in if I can tell that someone didn't actually play my arc and just wants a free 5-star, I don't even look at their arc. Give me at least a coherent sentence of feedback, tell me at least one imperfection and I'll go give your arc a look.

And I rate mostly as a recommendation. 4-stars means I'd play it again, 5 means I'll tell all my friends to play it.

Exactly. They could put "NO FARMS" on the front page in 72pt blinking letters of fire, and some people would still try to weasel out of it.

"They didn't define 'farms'" - "well, my arc isn't a farm" - "that's not what they said to me two years ago" - "who's it hurting anyway" - "I pay your salary, don't tell me how to play" ...

Or they would dress up their farm with a description about saving the city from alien invaders or some such, and hope they don't get caught. I hate those more than the blatant farms, since I'm wasting two minutes of my life clicking stuff and loading up a mission just to find out it's a farm. Instant quit, instant 1-star.

During the week, I typically set my filter to 4 star rating, medium, short, very short. I don't have a lot of time to play during the week and always finish what I start no matter how bad it is. For that reason, I don't play the long and very long during the week. On the weekend, I set it to 4 stars and play through those. It seems to me, most of the very good arcs are in that category.
