All of the games I have played have had the maintenance window at the same time. WoW actually starts thiers 4 hours earlier and it lasts three hours later. They only have it on tuesday, but I found thier server stability to be sporadic at best.

im from the Gold Coast, Australia.... and havent play CoH since issue 2... reactivating only 3 days ago, im get a server down almost every night at PRIME TIME!!!! reminding me why i quited this game 4 years ago...also...which server is somewhat oceanic? if theres such a thing

I think they do care, but maintenance has to happen at SOME point. It's gonna be prime time for someone, and given that they are based in America, they have to do it at some point during the American work day.
OP, that sucks, and I sympathize, but I just don't see it changing.

There's no oceanic server. They USUALLY only do maintenance 1-2 times a week. It's been more frequent lately due to patches, the MA coming out, the Magic Booster coming out, etc. I wouldn't be surprised if we got a small patch today.

no it takes less then 2 hrs. not good to come back with an attitude on the first day.
I've got to agree with the OP. Having the servers go down at 10.30pm was much better than the recent shift to 9.30pm.
Is there a reason why this has changed recently?

I agree with Aisynia that it is not an issue of them not caring, but that it has to happen. As I recall when this is brought up, it was looked at to when it should occur and the current schedule and server numbers point to the window we have now (Off hand, I don't see any direct posts to quote on this and they may be gone via the purges). And as Aisynia mentioned, no matter what time they pick, it will be prime time to some one, some where and it is not a perfect system, just an optimal one for NCSoft.

Well, they've never changed the regular maintenance times before for Daylight Savings Time, so I'm not sure why they'd do it now. Also, they haven't updated anything in the Support Center concerning maintenance. The only relevant link there is the news post made in January, stating the 10am Central/9am EST start time.
No big deal to me either way, just saying they really haven't announced a change, or a reason for the change.
Im thinking the end of it in Australia, which is normally early April IIRC.

I see what you're saying now, but the point remains that they really *have* shifted the actual maintenance window to an hour earlier than it used to be. Doesn't matter what country we're talking about.
For the past three years its been maintenance at 10.30pm during winter and 12.30pm during summer, when Aussie daylight savings and the US's shift in different directions.
Its now maintenance at 9.30pm, so there's definitely been an absolute time change outside of the usual seasonal cycle.

Justice has a rep for being the Oceanic server, with a higher poluation in our time zone. I haven't seen it being busier than Virtue or Freedom during Australian prime time though.

You guys basically said the exact same thing I said. You just used more words and I completely avoided any kind of subtlety.
If something HAS to happen, like maintenance, you really can't afford to him and haw about what the best time is to avoid primetime in australia, madagascar, greenland or china. Since the studio is based in the US and most likely uses a standard US work day which starts, on average, at 7 or 8 and ends around 4 or 5. The best time to get the maintenance done is within a couple hours of the start of the day and have it done before the majority of your subscribers wake up at noon.
I actually believe they datamined for the times that it takes place - before they started having regular maintenance times, mind you - and found that the time of the day they have it now is the most sparse.

I seem to recall this as well. It would make sense.
Well today (Monday, my time) Maintenance was back at the 'old' time of 11pm local.
Which is WAY more acceptable and useful than 10pm was.
I hope it stays this way, and thankyou to the people behind the scenes who made it happen.

Fortunately for us in the EU the maintenance occurs during the afternoon-late afternoon 
But I do understand the frustration of the australians.
Personally I don't play on the EU servers because I don't want to play in french/german.......
Meh, the 11pm maintenance is just a polite way of saying "Dammit you guys play too much, sleep now for work in the morning!"

I fully understand the need for a maintenance window, especially in a game environment where things change.
Yet I'm deeply affected by the recent shift in Maintenance times, which now hit smack in the Peak Game Playing time for East Coast Australia.
Maintenance now starts at 10pm, with the howling administrator warnings at 9:30pm.
It was horrific when Maintenance in "our" winter months hit 11pm, and now NCSOFT is starting maintenance an hour earlier than that!
For many Australian players, this is a huge source of frustration.
Maintenance needs to be done, but surely after 5 years there is SOME possibility of NCSOFT moving or adjusting the schedule.
Having ALL the servers go down at the same time, just piles on the sheer frustration of it all. It's prime gaming time!
One of the reasons I'm looking forward to the CoH competitor coming along (Cryptic's new MMO), is because I reckon it won't have these garbage maintenance windows smack in the middle of peak Australian playing times, or they won't take down ALL the servers at the same time.
I'm asking nicely -- please reconsider your recent changes to the maintenance schedule. Friday evenings are PRIME TIME in Australia, and having Maintenance effectively kick in at 9:30pm is horrible.
