AE & why I hate it now!

I personally dont' understand the point of farming. Making a mission to do over and over and OVER again to get the rewards, seems like a really REALLY dull use of time. Maybe paragon studios can come out with Virtual Paint Drying. I know the regular missions can become a grind and I take break from playing for a while when they do, but intentional making a mission for the purpose of boring yourself to tears seems masochistic IMHO. Then again, I have found i mostly ignore AE. It may make teaming a little harder, but it means the teams I do get will not be filled with people that I don't enjoy the play style of.

Ok this is a great idea & I congrats the Devs on it. Honestly its a great idea. My main problem now is that the farmers have made farming missions & now we have to weed out the real team requests from the farming ones. It was bad enough to see them spam farms, both free & ones you have to pay for, in PI & GV. Now we have to deal with it in all the zones with an AE building in it!! I was looking for a team in Talos. I was picked up & he said we doing a MA farm. I quit. Got picked up again for the same thing & again, I quit. So I started my own team. Got a few & they all quit since I was doing regular missions & not MA farm ones. I would like to know if there is anything the Devs can do to stop these farmers? AE has a lot of great possibilites but this is exploit plain & simple! These farmers charge players influ to join the farm team & get PLed. Now the players do that willingly & I can understand why but that doesn't change the fact. What is the point of playing a game when most of the people just rather get farmed & PLed?

I take it you are one of the farmers? Ok thats find. Farming a mission that you made isn't what makes me mad. Farmers spamming in the public chat channels like Broadcast , request, ect is what ticks me off. If you make a farming mission & you just PL SG friends or whatnot, thats fine. Its when I start a team or join a team & they just want a farming mission instead of regular missions, thats where the problem comes in. If you want to farm, then do it, just don't spam it in public chats. One of the coaliations that my SG has does a lot of farming. They PL SG & coali members & ask in coali chat if anyone wants in but they don't in public. That is how it should be done. While I still think its a exploit, I know that it most likely will never change. I know! All you farmers can make a channel & spam your farms in there. That way if people want to join a farm, they just join the channel & go from there. That way, everyone is happy.

[/ QUOTE ]

Spam is a seperate issue from farming. Not all farmers spam, and not all spammers farm.

RMT spam advertisements
Some SG's spam recruitment announcements
Some Powerlevelers spam for PL's
Some Farmers spam for farms
Some players spam team invites
Some players spam requests for invites
Some players spam inf begging

The only common factor spammers share is that they are all inconsiderate losers that only think of themselves.

You want a point to farming, check this out . . . Make an AE mission, outside, very large. I used City 02. Add as many protect object objectives as you can. Use a custom group which only has one minion. Add an ambush for every protect object, and run it with an 8 man team on invincible. I advise you make that minion as easy as possible to kill also.

I'm working on a mission like that, and intend on publishing it. Just not sure how to make it allowable without C/R infringement. Can't call the minions zerg, was thinking maybe Blergs? Got the idea from the forums

Edit: no wait, make those minions all masterminds ... hehe

While I never spam anything in game (except Heals), I never really mind spam of any sort.

Spam email (in game or out)? Click. It's gone. Ouchie babies! My clickie finger, she is tender!

Spam Global? Who in their right minds, enjoying the game they are paying for and playing, pays attention to Global. It's the Muzak of CoX. It's there, but I don't have to listen, analyze or respond to it. The only reason I can imagine that somebody even reads what is in Global Chat is that they are looking for something that might interest them in some way, and when the 'oh so selfish' farmer John spams for a farm team, it upsets their tender sensibilities that farmer John did not entertain them with something of scintilating interest to them. Sounds a smidge selfish to me, but, as I said, Global Chat interests me about as much as grass growing. Actually, I sorta like grass growing... it's nice knowing that something else is living nearby.

The farmers affect me not at all. Someone getting PL'd? Same thing. In fact, I'll go one better. I will be annoyed when the farmers leave because they will take their subscription money away from the game I enjoy playing. Less money in NCNC's coffers means they are one dollar closer to shutting down my Server.

I am a selfish sob. And I have been the object of pages of repetitive Tells or monosyllabic local spam to try and 'get my goat'. The fools didn't realize that I wasn't annoyed... I was laughing my tochis off at their apparent lack of anything better to do.

But to each his own annoyance level. Carry on.

I think people underestimage how much fun it is to cause AE carnage. I mean, I 'farmed' Dark Astoria, the Hollows, Crey's Folly and Perez Park on several of my characters, never once going into a mission and doing this just to blow the living hell out of large groups of bad guys. Annoyingly, level 40, there really isn't any open-zone way to do this.

I find it kinda weird that the behaviour of which I speak is okay, encouraged, and easy to do and find at level 1-40, but the devs seemed to let it trickle off after 41. Maybe they figured nobody was doing it. Shame, really.

I really don't see how that gives farming a point.. in fact it seems to me to reinforce how pointless it is. I don't play that often, only a couple of hours a week. Why would I waste my time doing that?

The term "Zerging" was coined when Starcraft was published, but the concept has been popular long before that. I used to always enjoy playing the zerg, and fighting against them. Play the terrans, make motor bikes and spider mines, and you can decimate a zerg rush, and it's just fun to watch. How I play every game has always been focused on that all the way back to pen and paper D&D when I was but a tike. Fighting insurmountable odds, and just barely winning.

Playing your mage or thief in D&D, wanting to get that one item, but having to go on a quest to get it, how is CoH any different? Everyone wants the shineys, and people will take the path of least resistance to get it.

Add those two together and you have farming.

I've taken to editing my chatbox to limit the number of tells I get, and I don't use broadcast myself. I talk to friends on private channels. I do realize that there are people that choose to use Broadcast to communicate, that's their choice.

As to farming, if I don't know it's happening it can't bother me. I don't look for them, and what others do on their missions is none of my business.

However I do read the rules, patch notes, and dev comments so I know that they are against farms. So I have no sympathy for anyone that gets their farms shut down. In fact I find the antics of the players when they complain about it humerous.

I take it your one of the story arc players? Ok that’s fine. Playing original or MA story content isn’t what makes me mad. It’s the spamming of lft in public channels like Broadcast, request, ect is what ticks me off. How am I suppose to find a good farm team with all that going on?

If you get together with friends and SG mates to play content, that’s fine. It’s when I’m looking for a farm and make or join a team and all they want to do is waste time with a good story, that’s where the problem comes in.

If you want to read a book, just do it, and don’t spam it in public chats. One of the coalitions that my SG has, sets up teams just for people that like to run story content, that’s the way it should be done. While I still think it’s a stupid thing to do, it will most likely never change. Maybe you guys should go and make your own channel! Then you can do all your spamming there.

Everyone keeps saying the devs are against farming, why is it then the introduced perma 46's? Hmmm can anyone answer.

Posted

And perma 12s and 14s, and 1s if you like.

They've also made TFs once per day events. Can't get the same reward twice in a day.

They've also been asked in interviews how they'll stop exploiters (which is what farmers are) from gaining max reward at minimum risk.

You can no longer spawn snake eggs in MA arcs.

You can no longer spawn Vampyri Generators in MA Arcs.

You get no salvage or recipe drops from MA arcs.

All custom MA enemies must now have at least 1 attack based set.

All of these things were put in place to AVOID farming of 'easy' content with high rewards.

The Devs are against Farming.

What about things like Battle Maiden and Demon Farm that haven't been nerfed? If they were against it so much, wouldn't they put a stop to it? And if they are against it so much why did they make it so easy to get massive XP and influence in the MA? Can you answer that?

TF's can be run as many times as you like, just with diminishing returns to merit reward. Most people who do run these over and over do so for the high exp value (ITF springs to mind)

And yet they have never come out and stated farming is illegal.

Egg, Generators, non attacking enemies, stacking multiple ffgs...these were all exploits of course they were removed along with higher than proper value kills such as the "rikti dolls".

It still remains however, that farming in and of itself isn't against the rules. Otherwise they would have put a stop to the many maps used to do so in their own content, much less player created. The minute someone can post me a link showing me where a red name posts farming is against the rules, I will be more than happy to join the reporting crowd. Until that time, I am a firm believer in live and let live. If Story Stacy likes to run artistic content..good hunting. If farmer Fred likes to run farms...good hunting. The only time I care is when the rules are in violation. I personally only farm my toons when I am already familiar with the powersets in question. If it is a new powerset I am unfamiliar with, I prefer the hard way to give myself time to learn the ins and outs. Once I hit 50, I farm like crazy on the toon to provide myself with the pretty toys I want. Even it that is running the wall in Cim...that is still farming. Basically...live and let live. Until a redname comes out and says farming is an exploit and is illegal, it will continue in the open because that is what they enjoy doing.

The game is repetitive in essense. So, of coz, there can't be any rules against farming, because farming just means repeating something. The dev trys to avoid the feeling of repetitiveness by providing context to the gameplay like story arcs, and create a great variety of stories such that players can pick. Many stories are pretty deep and interconnected with each other. However, it is still up to the players about what they pick. All the dev can do is to provide options. Players can choose to do the same thing everytime and ignore the options.

To the OP:

Sorry to hear that, in particular it doesn't work even you put together a team. As I explained above, it's not exactly the fault of AE, but it's what players choose to do.
