Dev's Choice: Becoming the Chosen One!
[ QUOTE ]
Okay, so i15 is on our heels, and we have yet to have new dev choice in over a month.
I have a a couple arcs both are 4 star, one sitting at 999+ while the other is just over 100. I got the Master Builder badge. I'm not necessarily expecting a Dev Choice or Hall of Fame for my stuff, but I don't view my arcs to be as good as many others out there.
Sad thing is, of the bunch of Dev Choice content that I've played, I wasn't at all impressed. I've played quite a bit of AE content that were much better.
How often is Dev Choice content going to be selected? I'd rather not be in a "Devs Choice: For Your Consideration" thread, because it is then no longer 'Dev's Choice' but 'Players Choice' instead.
It would be nice to see this become more systematical. Something to the effect of "If an arc has X number of votes over Y average rating, the arc is quickly reviewed for exploits and sent to Hall of Fame."

I feel your pain. Because when Mod 08 answered his own question: "So what do we consider when choosing between stories when deciding which should be selected for Devs choice?"

We found the arc thoroughly enjoyable to play.
We want to share that experience with others.
The arc found a balance between fun gameplay and a decent story.
Theres no apparent way to exploit the missions."

With thousands of arcs with 100+ players and 4 star ratings, its like looking for a needle in the MArcstack. A friend of mine mentioned the other day that one of the dev's played his arc and left comments. It's just the luck of the draw, I guess.
Although, I must admit, if I were a dev and saw an arc played 999+ times, I would check it out.
Good luck to you.

I am still seeing arcs that are obvious farms... with over 500 plays. The number of plays means nothing. A real gem of an arc could be sitting at 10 plays, the reason for that is the sorting order.
I would like my arc to be looked at. It's sitting at 51 plays buried in the back beyond of the 4 star section. I don't hold out any real hope of that happening. I've learned to be happy if my arc is played at all on a given day. That's about all people who refuse to spam global channels and broadcast or have voting blocks can hope for.

What they really should do is conscript some of the enormous number of player reviewers in the other forum to help identify potential dev choice story arcs. Maybe if 3 different recognized reviewers gave an arc 4.5 stars or higher average it could get queued for play by a dev. Some limitations would be needed to prevent "gaming" this system, of course.

And I'm reporting obvious farms on a daily basis and still seeing them many days later.
This annoys me to no end. These arcs are exactly what Positron himself said MA wasn't for, what he said would be removed, and yet there they remain... the arterial plaque of the entire architect system.
I'm fed up. I had high hopes for MA breathing new life into the game for me. But between the obvious farms that go unremoved and the exploits and the lack of any more Dev's Choices even though I've personally played 2 dozen arcs FAR better than several Dev's Choices already out there... I'm just tired of it.
I barely play anymore. The situation has sapped my enjoyment of the game away.

Personally I still belive that making a game with a level/mission/story editor/creator only shows that Develpoers are giving in to fans who constantly berate or bash thier hard work and as a result we get less content overall and more mediore, bland and overall unlikable content instead.
Not every gamer is a virtuous wonder child with a blossom of creativity just waiting to blossom only to have the moderators remove anythin that resembles any levels from Super Mario Bros. and anything else that looks at them funny.
I don't want ot have to wade through an ocean of runoff from a unmonitored sewage factory to find the good stuff when I can play levels/missions made by professional develpoers like say the people who maintain and work on this game.
So many games are starting to feature player made content in an atempt to market to the broader audience which may be well good and all but it hasn't been done well and odds are never will be.
Halo 3 featured a map editor and peope basically made endless remakes of Ninja Warroir obstical courses and Super Mario levels....yay.
Little Big Planet featured the same thing and it hasn't even sold NEARLY as well as Sony was expecting it to since the develpoed content levels were amazingly short despite being done very nicely.
This is just one more step in the wrong direction IMO since in the end the MA will just continue to be nerfed until it's become unusable to even story creators.
Even now with the removal of some 85 or so badges for the sake of "discouraging players from farming them" doesn't change a thing in the long run since one after another mistakes have been made.
I love this game and have ever since City of Villains went into open beta and wish for it to thrive on,but at the rate things continue it's become official that the calibure of the decision making has become equivilant to Sonic Team's i.e. meaning missing the point further and further with each step.
Yes I am aware that this isn't written in stone however this is my opinion and take that for what it is...even if you have to take it with mountianous piles of salt.
Thank you for creating AE and providing a platform for players to unleash their creativity. Great story lines, well thought out characters, with congruent maps are rare, but do exist. Although they are not my own; story arcs 9852 and 1152 are extremely well written and thought out. They are both worthy of Dev's Choice Recognition.
Some players love to farm, others whatever comes their way. For myself, I prefer stories for experienced players and teams who crave intense good old fashioned fun while putting their skills and abilities to the test.

Actually i'm wondering when the next picks for Dev's Choice / Hall of Fame are going up. It's been a while

And how exactly are the farms impeding you getting enjoyment out of MA? You might find more enjoyment if you ignored them and quit reporting them. Sounds like it is stressing you out too much.

I have to disagree with you there. The number of plays means alot ... both good and bad. That's why I didn't recommend that Devs simply award heavily played MArcs a DC. I said... it would be worthwhile to check them out.
For TWO reasons: 1) They may be great and WORTHY of a DC; and 2) they may be obvious farms, and then the devs could deal with that. Either way, that's a win win situation from my point of view.
Or, they could check it out and just be as puzzled as you and I are. The arc ISN'T as good as a DC or an arc with 10 plays but it ISN'T a farm, either. Perhaps the author just invited 1,000 of their closest friends to play.
(btw, this is not a self-interest post/idea since my own arc has only 139-140 plays and sits with yours in the Twilight Zone of 4-star rated arcs.)
Tried one of the Dev's Choice arcs. First mission I get ambushed by an Elite Boss with no warning at all from the contact. I don't run on high difficulty ratings either.
How is this supposed to be enjoyable? If your missions are supposed to be challenging or related to larger team size, tell us something like: "Hey Neuronia, I have an urgent matter but this will prove difficult. Please consider bringing along some help."
That way, I'll know to avoid it if I'm on a low-damage type.

The problems of farms clogging the MA system are well documented and discussed elsewhere. The pro-farm crowd won't/can't/doesn't want to understand these problems, so repeating them here would be futile anyway.
The anouncement about Dev's Choice and HoF going away was very welcome news indeed. That right there removes most of what was stressing me out. Thank you for your concern.

You're just referring to the BADGES for DC and HoF going away, correct? Because there's no indication so far that they intend on removing the classifications themselves.

I have tried a couple of the Dev Choices mission too and been somewhat disappointed. To me they seem either overly long, very tough, or very familiar in content to what the devs have created themselves. I suppose that makes sense, though. Since if they like their own work, why wouldn't they like work that tries to replicate it or extend it?

I've noticed this too. I've played most of the Dev Choice arcs, and I have to say it seems that to make a Dev's Choice designation you have to explicitly exploit existing canon, especially the MA itself. Other things that might have gone into the designation I can't even guess; too many of the current DC arcs are lame at best. I've played a dozen other arcs that are far more entertaining and well-constructed than some of the DC arcs.
I think the fact that they haven't designated any as DC in awhile means that they went a bit overboard at first and have now tightened up whatever the qualifications are. Still...it seems I play at least one a day that is far and away better than some of the DC arcs. Are they waiting to see hundreds of plays at 5 stars before they'll choose another one? I don't think that's right, considering the ratings griefing that's been going on.
